On March 5, The Ghost Whisperer airs its 100th episode. This is a milestone for any series and will be highlighted by the fact that Jennifer Love Hewitt directs the installment.
But it will be pertinent for a storytelling reason, as well: a major character will die.
Producer P.K. Simonds shared this spoiler with Fancast.com in an interview this week. He said:
There’s a character, an important one, who is gonna die. Fans might want to start wondering who that is. I’m not sure they’ll be able to guess. And that takes us ahead to the home stretch.
There’s gonna be a reckoning between Melinda, her son Aiden, Eli and Ned and the book that they’ve been reading and their battle against the shadows. There’s a very big climax we’re headed to at the end of the season and everything is at stake.

Bruce Davison isn't done with The Ghost Whisperer.
The actor will reprise his role - first seen in May's finale - as the dean of Rockland University for at least four episodes this season. The character has a connection to the Book of Changes.
“He plays a really pivotal character,” producer P.K. Simonds told TV Guide Magazine. “He's now the president of the university, but he had a certain relationship to the book that was just kind of hinted at last season, and we're going to find out more about that. His relationship with various potent forces are a threat to our characters this coming season, and we're going to find out a lot about that starting soon.”
Davison has most recently appeard on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Closer and Criminal Minds. He'll pop up from time to time on this CBS drama, Simonds said.

As loyal fans of The Ghost Whisperer know, the show will jump ahead five years when its fifth season premieres tonight.
It's a season that was never in doubt, producer P.K. Simonds told Entertainment Weekly, due to the creative risk the show took to conclude the series in May, as Melinda discovered she was pregnant with a magical child.
“We were in a much stronger position, and that had everything to do with the risk that we took and the new life that we injected into the show," Simonds said.
On this week's episode, little Aiden is a toddler, at the age where he can actually be “the key” watcher Carl predicted he’d be in the aforementioned finale; also Jim is now practicing at a hospital that will become “the centerpiece of our storytelling and the new interesting dark places we intend to go,” Simonds said.

Last season, Ghost Whisperer took a huge creative risk. Jim (David Conrad), the supportive husband of Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) died, refused to cross over, and stepped into the body of a dying man named Sam. Melinda and viewers knew Sam was Jim, but it took Jim, whose soul suffered some sort of amnesia in its new body (which viewers still saw as Conrad's), some time to figure it out. He finally did, and the season ended with the couple learning that they were pregnant (the baby is Jim-Jim's) and that the child will be able to do "much, much more" than his mother, who can see and hear dead people. It paid off: For the first time, when CBS talked about the show's renewal, the word "no-brainer" was used. "That conversation had never gone that way before," executive producer P.K. Simonds admits. "We were in a much stronger position,...

It is time to wrap up "Ghost Whisperer" with the season finale on May 15. In "Book of Changes", wedding bells ring for Melinda and Jim. But when a ghost pays Melinda an unexpected visit, she worries for her unborn baby.
The significant of the Watchers will be revealed in this episode. Show runner P.K. Simonds explained previously how the Book of Changes relates to their abilities, saying "Over the very, very long span of time that they've been watching, (the Watchers) have observed that history tends to repeat itself."
"That gives them a certain ability to make a pretty good educated guess about what the future is. They are able to know something about what's taking shape, let's say, in a character's womb. And yes, it's possible to know certain things about the gift that might be growing."

All I want to know is the bottom line when it comes to Ghost Whisperer's Jim dying. Will he ever be brought back to life (his life), or is his only involvement going to be in the body of Sam? — Kathy
Matt: It's simple, really: Jim is now going by "Sam," but Sam is mostly Jim. "Since it's Jim's soul [inside Sam's body], we will always be seeing David [Conrad] at Melinda's side," exec producer P.K. Simonds tells me, dismissing rumors that Conrad is leaving the show. Much of the story to come involves Sam (who to everyone else looks like Jericho's Kenneth Mitchell) realizing that he has this new life inside of him. As Conrad explained it to me, "It's the whole question of how ...
