Judith Durham, Australia’s folk music icon who achieved global fame as the lead singer of The Seekers, has died. She was 79.
Durham died in Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on Friday night after suffering complications from a long-standing lung disease, Universal Music Australia and Musicoast said in a statement on Saturday.
She made her first recording at 19 and rose to fame after joining The Seekers in 1963. The group of four became the first Australian band to achieve major chart and sales success in the U.K. and the United States, eventually selling 50 million records.
International hits included “The Carnival is Over,” “I’ll Never Find Another You,” “A World of Our Own” and “Georgy Girl.”
Durham embarked on a solo career in 1968 but recorded with The Seekers again in the 1990s.

Bryan Ferry will reunite with Roxy Music members Andy Mackay and Phil Manzanera for a performance at the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Following Roxy Music‘s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Bryan Ferry will embark on a North American solo trek focusing on the band’s 1982 album Avalon as well the singer’s own solo work and Roxy Music hits.
Ferry’s 18-date North American leg begins July 30th at Toronto’s Sony Centre and runs through September 5th in Vancouver. Along the way, the singer will perform at Austin’s Moody Theater, home of Austin City Limits, on August 23rd. Tickets for the tour go on sale beginning January 14th at Ferry’s website.

Sit Elton John is reportedly returning to his beloved soccer club. The 61-year-old singer walked away from his role as honorary life president of Hertfordshire club Watford Fc two months ago after an ongoing feud with the club's former chairman Graham Simpson.
Just weeks later, Simpson resigned from his post, prompting the "Your Song" singer to consider rejoining the club. He even visited the club's training grounds late last month, chatting happily with players and staff.
Watford manager Brendan Rodgers said: "I was delighted when he accepted my invitation... and he was great with everyone. He rang me later when he got home, thanking me for the day."
Elton has been involved in the club since 1976, holding the position of owner, chairman, director and president and the club is keen to have him involved once again.
