Paul Schrader has often landed himself in controversies with his anti-political correctness takes. There have been instances when Schrader was asked to back down from social media during his film’s release. He continues his usual controversial takes by announcing a Frank Sinatra biopic starring Kevin Spacey. Schrader had defended the actor back in 2018 at the peak of the #MeToo movement. He wants to cast him now since Spacey was cleared of the charges against him.
The Card Counter director Paul Schrader wants to cast Kevin Spacey in his Frank Sinatra biopic
Schrader’s intention to fight against Cancel Culture could cost him his movie as no studio may be willing to work on a controversial project. Even if it gets taken up by a studio, Schrader’s film still has to compete with Martin Scorsese’s biopic of the late singer and actor.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have collaborated 6 times over the years. The director-actor duo have never repeated themselves and have constantly worked on reinventing themselves each time. From historical epics, crime dramas, to psychological thrillers, the two have become the ideal pairing that can do no wrong.
Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street
One of their wild collaborations was the 2013 biographical black comedy film The Wolf of Wall Street. One of the craziest scenes from the film was a lion casually walking through the Stratton Oakmont firm in the presence of office workers. While Scorsese did use a real lion and real people for the scene, a brilliant strategy was used to seamlessly blend them together.

The iconic screenwriter of Taxi Driver, Paul Schrader, once said, “Every time I thought that I might die, I would get a new idea.” Now, although the 81-year-old auteur, Martin Scorsese is very far from the final event, the legendary director and Leonardo DiCaprio collaborator has quipped once or twice his fear of not having much time left to do all of the things he wants to do. Perhaps that very thought has led to Scorsese picking up his pace on two projects of astounding weight and value – Jesus Christ and Frank Sinatra.

Martin Scorsese fans might have experienced a bit of deja vu after Variety exclusively reported that a Frank Sinatra biopic is one of two films the Oscar-winning director is planning to shoot back to back. The other is a movie about Jesus, the director’s second after 1988’s “The Last Temptation of Christ.” But it’s the Sinatra biopic that has long been a white whale of sorts for Scorsese.
Per Variety’s report, Scorsese’s Sinatra movie is eyeing his longtime muse Leonardo DiCaprio to star as the crooner — and the actor’s “Don’t Look Up” co-star Jennifer Lawrence to play his second wife, the famous Hollywood actress Ava Gardner (who factored into Scorsese’s “The Aviator” and was played by Kate Beckinsale). Sony is reportedly the frontrunner to nab the project, which Scorsese once tried and failed to get off the ground several years ago.

It was a very good year for Martin Scorsese when the iconic filmmaker earned 10 Oscar nominations for Killers of the Flower Moon, but the 81-year-old auteur isn’t slowing down. In addition to partnering with Steven Spielberg to adapt Cape Fear for TV and adapting Life of Jesus based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1973 novel, Scorsese is eyeing a Frank Sinatra biopic with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence reportedly leading the cast.
While a Frank Sinatra biopic based on the life and times of the world-famous crooner sounds like a dream project come true, Scorsese might encounter a sour note on behalf of the late entertainer’s daughter, Tina Sinatra, who controls her father’s estate. Tina is withholding her blessing for Scorsese to move forward with the project, but that hasn’t stopped him from lining up a cast of A-list actors to make it a reality. Martin Scorsese is ol’ blue-eyeing a big new project.
Variety reports that Scorsese is developing a Frank Sinatra biopic that will star Leonardo DiCaprio as the legendary crooner and Jennifer Lawrence as movie star Ava Gardner, Sinatra’s second wife. It would be the Oscar-winning director’s seventh film with DiCaprio and a reunion for DiCaprio and Lawrence, who worked together on the Best Picture-nominated dark comedy “Don’t Look Up.”
The 81-year-old filmmaker plans to tackle the Sinatra biopic after “Life of Jesus,” his independently financed religious film that is expected to go into production this year. (Variety notes that “Silence” star Andrew Garfield and “Top Gun: Maverick” actor Miles Teller are up for potential roles in that project.)

Martin Scorsese is taking on biopics of both Jesus and a music god: Frank Sinatra.
The Oscar-winning auteur is rumored to be once more developing a biopic based on the legendary crooner — a project Scorsese’s been associated with before — with longtime collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio in talks to portray Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. Variety reported the news. DiCaprio recently starred in Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and also led other Scorsese-helmed biopics like “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “The Aviator.”
Variety noted that Frank Sinatra’s daughter Tina Sinatra controls her father’s estate and hasn’t yet approved a film adaptation of his life story. However, Scorsese is already looking to cast both DiCaprio and fellow Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence in the film, with Lawrence portraying screen star Ava Gardner, who was Sinatra’s second wife after Nancy Barbato. Lawrence and DiCaprio co-starred in “Don’t Look Up.

"Killers of the Flower Moon" may have ended with a bittersweet final coda from Martin Scorsese, but the acclaimed octogenarian director clearly still has plenty of future projects on his plate. Variety just broke the news that Scorsese apparently has a Frank Sinatra biopic in the works, and while the filmmaker's reps declined to comment, the outlet claims he has none other than frequent leading man Leonardo DiCaprio in mind to play the lead. The filmmaker's take on the famous crooner's life also reportedly will include a major part for Jennifer Lawrence, who sources say will play Sinatra's second wife, Ava Gardner.
According to the trade outlet, the Sinatra picture isn't exactly a done deal: Variety notes that Sinatra's daughter Tina, who controls the late singer's estate, hasn't given her blessing for the movie yet. Famed director Martin Scorsese is working on a Frank Sinatra biopic, and he’s looking to reunite with one of his favorite stars, Leonardo DiCaprio, for the picture.
Sources have shared with Variety that Leonardo would play the famed crooner with Jennifer Lawrence eyed for Frank‘s second wife, actress Ava Gardner. Jennifer and Leonardo worked together on 2021′s Don’t Look Up.
However, the project isn’t officially full steam ahead as there’s a snag.

It’s been at least 15 years since Martin Scorsese first got involved with a biopic of Frank Sinatra, an almost too-logical pairing of Italian-Americans of a certain age from the tri-state area. Around the time of Hugo, Scorsese was so excited by 3D he considered shooting it and Silence (!) on the format; needless to say this did not come to pass. Many years went by, rights evaporated, and the busier-by-the-day octogenarian seemingly moved on.
Which makes it a great surprise, per Variety, that Scorsese’s perhaps more eager than ever to move forward: Leonardo DiCaprio is (of course) his consideration for ol’ blue eyes, while Jennifer Lawrence would portray Ava Gardner, Sinatra’s second wife and the woman who most drove him insane. Apple (of Flower Moon) and Sony are interested, which matters less when Tina Sinatra, the estate owner, has yet to give blessing. One thinks, however, it’s just a matter of time.

Despite being 81 years old, legendary Hollywood director and Oscar winner Martin Scorsese is not ready to retire. After his most recent film, Killers of the Flower Moon, was nominated for numerous awards, the acclaimed filmmaker is seemingly eyeing a new project and while it has yet to be greenlit, Scorsese has seemingly begun to put together a star-filled cast. The movie in question is a biopic about legendary singer and actor Frank Sinatra, and knowing Scorsese’s background in music, this biopic promises to be amazing.
Frank Sinatra is a legendary figure in American pop culture. He is first and foremost known as a musician, a talented singer with evergreen hits like “Fly Me to the Moon,” “New York, New York,” and “My Way,” but he was also a very talented and popular actor. Mark Twain once quipped, “Age is a case of mind over matter. If you don’t mind it, it doesn’t matter.” When it comes to Martin Scorsese, age certainly isn’t making a difference. After landing 10 Oscar nominations for last year’s historical crime epic “Killers of the Flower Moon,” the 81-year-old director has mapped out his next several projects. Sources say he plans to shoot two films back to back: the first about Jesus, the second a Frank Sinatra biopic.
The Oscar-winning director who helped usher in the Hollywood New Wave of the 1970s is looking to bypass the studio system and independently finance “Life of Jesus,” based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1973 book. He took the same approach with the 2016 drama “Silence” (which also was adapted from an Endō novel). Spike Lee has released a powerful short film that splices together the deaths of George Floyd and Eric Garner with clips from the climax of his 1989 film “Do the Right Thing,” calling Floyd, Garner and the character Radio Raheem “3 Brothers.”
“Will history stop repeating itself,” a title card reads as we hear Garner, who was killed in 2014, say “I’m minding my business officer.”
The short film makes a powerful parallel between how Lee visualized a protest and the police’s treatment of the black man Radio Raheem (Bill Nunn) in his film and how closely they match up with what we’ve seen in real life with Floyd and Garner.

Spike Lee has dropped “New York New York,” a short film and love letter to New York and its people, on Instagram.
The short film opens with plenty of scenes of contemporary New York’s uncharacteristically silent streets before transitioning to scenes of ambulances and frontline workers who are handling the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Those scenes are followed by a handful of shots showing New York residents cheering and offering support to the frontline workers, followed by several closing shots of New York’s many landmarks — a sort of light in the darkness.
Lee offered special thanks on Instagram to Tina Sinatra, who gave him the rights to the film’s song, and Kodak, which supplied the film and cameras.

Spike Lee debuted a new film short on CNN Thursday, a “valentine” to New York as it faces the coronavirus crisis.
New York, New York, set to the Frank Sinatra classic, features scenes of empty streets and landmarks, including subway stations, Broadway theaters, Yankee Stadium and Wall Street, as well as scenes of hospital workers. Lee said he got permission to use the song from Sinatra’s daughter, Tina Sinatra, and Sony Atv.
“It’s painful when you see there is nobody there,” Lee told CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, during one of their weekly coronavirus town halls. “But at the end of the film, that is when we see New Yorkers.”
He added, “You know what? I wouldn’t want to be any other place than here, the epicenter.”
Lee also asked about his views on why the coronavirus has had a disproportionate impact on the African American community.

Martin Scorsese has exited a long-promised Frank Sinatra biopic. Field of Dreams screenwriter Phil Alden Robinson and Hunger Games screenwriter Billy Ray had been working on scripts for the film at various times, with The Toronto Sun reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio was set to star.
"We can't do it," Scorsese told The Toronto Sun. "I think it is finally over. [Sinatra's estate] won't agree to it. Open it up again and I'm there."
Scorsese, whose new movie Silence is out now, said he had hoped to make an unfettered portrait of both the singer's highs and lows.

The 1962 classic The Manchurian Candidate was missing from cinema screens from 1963 to 1987. But why?
Richard Condon’s political thriller, The Manchurian Candidate, has twice been turned into a feature film. In truth, as much as its internet law to slam remakes, Jonathan Demme’s 2004 take on the material – starring Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington – is worth a look. But it’s the 1962 original film, directed by the late John Frankenheimer, that’s rightly regarded as one of the finest American thrillers in cinema history.
The movie stars Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey and Janet Leigh, and couldn’t have been released at a more testing time. Its release date of October 24th 1962 found an America in the midst of the Cuban Missile Crisis, that took the world to the brink of nuclear war. In that climate came the story of a Communist covert plot to kill the President of the United States.

Exclusive: To get to Tony Danza’s dressing room at the Nederlander Theatre, where he stars in the new Broadway musical Honeymoon in Vegas, you walk a corridor that circles the perimeter of the ancient house, where trash cans line one wall, and graffiti scrawled by Rent cast members dominates the other. Climb a set of stairs, and then there is the star’s cold perch, one that would barely provide room for Michael Keaton’s Birdman levitation act.
You imagine how much smaller this must be than the giant trailers where Danza spent most of his adult life in Taxi and Who’s The Boss. And then he emerges, euphoric and still sweaty after two hours of singing, tap dancing, even serenading with a love song while playing the ukulele, and he looks like a small Brooklyn kid whose parents took him to Coney Island. I never would have guessed that Ray Liotta hasn't seen "Field of Dreams," in which he plays Shoeless Joe Jackson. It's true that some actors don't enjoy watching their own performances, but "Field of Dreams" is an extreme example because that's a really hard movie to avoid. I also never would have guessed that Frank Sinatra's daughter sent a horse's head autographed by Warren Beatty to Liotta before he portrayed the Chairman of the Board in "The Rat Pack." Then again, these are the kinds of things you learn when you spend a healthy amount of time talking about a film -- in this case, Andrew Dominik's quite excellent "Killing Them Softly" -- with a veteran actor whose role isn't all that terribly large. (Even Brad Pitt, the star of the movie, doesn't show up until 30 minutes in.)

Back in 2009 Martin Scorsese signed on to direct a Frank Sinatra biopic called Sinatra for Universal Pictures. I was wondering if this movie was ever going to happen, but today we've learned that the studio has hired a new screenwriter for the film, which means Scorsese is finally getting ready to move forward with it! The Hunger Games screenwriter Billy Ray will be working on the script. He's been working on a few other project lately that includes an untitled project with J.J. Abrams, and the Paul Greengrass-directed Somali pirate film Captain Phillips, which will star Tom Hanks. Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams) was originally hired to write the script.
Sinatra's youngest daughter Tina Sinatra will be an executive producer on the project, and it will tell the life story of the legendary singer/actor. This is going to be a great project. Sinatra led one hell of an interesting life,...

The film will be produced by Scott Rudin, Mandalay’s Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman, Scorsese’s Sikelia and the iconic singer’s daughter, Tina Sinatra. It was Guber and Schulman who brought in the project to the studio after they secured life and music rights from Frank Sinatra Enterprises, which is a joint venture of the estate of Ol’ Blue Eyes and the Warner Music Group. Phil Alden Robinson had originally been hired as the writer. I take this as a good sign that Scorsese is getting serious about bringing to life the seminal singer of the 20th Century, who parlayed that golden voice into a trip from New Jersey to Hollywood. Where he had the world on a string as he romanced the most beautiful women in town,...

Farentino in The Bold Ones TV series in 1969
Actor James Farentino died Tuesday in Los Angeles at age 73 following a lengthy illness. Farentino's good looks and charisma made him a star on the rise in the 1960s and he appeared in numerous films and TV series in recurring roles or as a guest. He also co-starred in the hit series The Bold Ones. His success in feature films was more erratic but he did land occasional prominent roles in films like Me, Natalie and in the sci-fi Pearl Harbor-themed hit The Final Countdown. Farentino lead a tumultuous personal life that saw him married four times. In 1994, his career went into a greater nosedive when he pleaded no contest to stalking ex-wife Tina Sinatra, youngest daughter of Frank Sinatra. He was sentenced to probation and ordered to get psychiatric care. Farantino admitted that his behavior was often appalling and led...

Wilmington, Delaware (Reuters) - The estate of Frank Sinatra, a long-time Los Angeles Dodgers fan, has joined four other season ticket holders to ask a bankruptcy judge for an official say in the baseball team's future.
Nancy, Frank Jr. and Tina Sinatra and the other ticket holders are seeking recognition as an official committee to advocate on behalf of Dodger fans who generally blame team owner Frank McCourt for its financial problems.
They did not specify their concerns or motives in a filing with the Delaware bankruptcy court. But an official committee would speak on behalf of all season ticket holders, and would have some or all of its expenses for lawyers and advisers paid by the Dodgers.

Scott Rudin is set to produce the Martin Scorsese-directed "Sinatra" biopic at Universal Pictures reports Deadline.
Exploring the life of singer-actor Frank Sinatra, Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman brought the project to the studio two years ago after they secured life and music rights from Frank Sinatra Enterprises.
Phil Alden Robinson penned the previous draft but it's expected a new scribe will be employed soon. Tina Sinatra will also produce.
