2017-06-02T07:24:50-07:00Bob and Doug McKenzie Will Return for One Night Only
Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, who played Sctv's and SNL's beer-loving McKenzie brothers during the 1980s, are reuniting for a July 18 benefit concert in Toronto.
Other Canadian comedy legends on The Second City concert bill include Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd and Sctv alums Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Martin Short and Joe Flaherty, along with the Kids in the Hall cast, including Scott Thompson.
Paul Shaffer, Dave Letterman's former bandleader who worked with Levy, Short, Thomas and Andrea Martin in the 1972 Toronto production of Godspell, will also appear onstage in Toronto. Moranis and Thomas are set to reprise their roles as the Canadian bumpkins Bob and Doug McKenzie on an imaginary talk show, Great White North.

It’s been 20 years since Rick Moranis last appeared onscreen, in the mind-bendingly titled “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.” A fixture of ’80s and ’90s blockbuster comedies, Moranis was beloved for his iconic roles in “Ghostbusters,” “Spaceballs,” and for leading the “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” franchise. He stepped away from acting in 1997 in order to focus on his family, only returning for the very occasional voiceover or writing gig.
Moranis will take to the stage for one very special night to help out his dear friend Dave Thomas for a special benefit show on July 18th in Toronto. Moranis and Thomas will reprise their roles as Bob and Doug McKenzie, two hick Canadian brothers the duo played on Sctv, “Saturday Night Live,” and in the movie “Strange Brew.”

The entertainment industry is constantly changing, and it's important to stay aware of what’s going on. Want to find out who’s casting? What projects are happening? What’s coming up? Call Sheet highlights will help you stay in-the-know: UTA's opening it's doors to the mass exodus of CAA agents including comedy comedy headers Jason Heyman, Martin Lesak, Gregory McKnight, and Greg Cavic. “Heroes Reborn” added more Heroes alum to its roster. The La Padura/Hart cast series just nabbed Jimmy Jean–Louis, to reprise his role as The Haitian. Mindy Marin Casting is taking flight with Tom Cruise’s new project "Mena," which follows the real life story of drug trafficker and pilot Barry Seal. The Shia Labeouf starrer "American Honey," cast by Jennifer Venditti of JV8INC, is gearing up to shoot this June in Texas and West Virgina. Former Steppenwolf associate artistic director and casting director...

The first Chicago bar I drank in was the Old Town Ale House. That bar was destroyed by fire in the 1960s, the customers hosed off, and the Ale House moved directly across the street to its present location, where it has been named Chicago's Best Dive Bar by the Chicago Tribune.
I was taken to the Ale House by Tom Devries, my fellow college editor from the Roosevelt Torch. It was early on a snowy Sunday afternoon. I remember us walking down to Barbara's Bookstore to get our copies of the legendary New York Herald-Tribune Sunday edition. Pogo. Judith Crist. Tom Wolfe. Jimmy Breslin. I remember peanut shells on the floor and a projector grinding through 16mm prints of Charlie Chaplin shorts. I remember my first taste of dark Löwenbräu beer. The Ale House was cool even then.

To everything, there is a season to shut it down. Through seven years, 138 episodes, 14 Emmy wins and what its writers estimate as 23,000 hard-won punch lines, 30 Rock and its frequently food-stained heroine, Liz Lemon, have taught us that much, at least. (Other key lessons: "Never go with a hippie to a second location," and beware of the white dudes who "inject AIDS into our chicken nuggets.")
The show's final episode will air January 31st, so for Jack, Liz, Tracy, Jenna and Kenneth, for Grizz and for Dotcom, too, these are the end times.
