“Initially I did say no,” admits Golden Globe nominated actress Chrissy Metz while discussing her participation as Poodle Moth on the Fox reality TV series “The Masked Singer.” “I didn’t think I could do it. I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m the girl for the job.’ Also, I run hot, especially in my face. How am I going to have a mask on and sing in the way that I’m supposed to sound good? It took some convincing. Ultimately, I realized it was really fun, challenging and liberating.” Watch her exclusive video interview with Gold Derby senior editor Denton Davidson above.
Metz was unmasked as Poodle Moth on Wednesday night’s quarter-finals episode of Season 11. She went home in fourth place as Clock, Goldfish and Gumball advanced to next week’s semi-finals. Panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg was the only one who guessed her identity.

Brittany Snow’s Parachute isn’t a rom-com to feel fluttery about. Rather, through Riley’s struggles, this film takes a psychological approach to show the impact of mental disorders like body dysmorphia. Neurotypical people often do not understand what someone with conditions like these goes through. It can be quite horrifying, and that is something Brittany Snow has captured impeccably by letting us see the world through the eyes of Riley herself.
Riley is a young woman fresh out of rehab, looking forward to recovering from her severe eating disorder and body dysmorphia. Riley has become a compulsive Instagram scroller, and her feed is filled with Instagram models with flawless and “perfect” bodies. These women, with their strict workout regimes and dieting, make Riley feel worse. At times, she even starves herself on purpose. It’s quite true that Instagram’s rise has led to an increase in the...

The new season of the Selling Sunset spinoff continues with the same cast, including Kayla Cardona, Alexandra Jarvis, Brandi Marshall, Polly Brindle, Alex Hall, Gio Helou, Alexandra Rose, Tyler Stanaland, Austin Victoria, Sean Palmieri, and Jason Oppenheim.
Last season, Alexandra Harper was introduced to audiences, and by the end of Season 2, she was given the opportunity to join the Oppenheim Group. Rebel Wilson details how Hollywood’s pay scales can increase exponentially in her new memoir, Rebel Rising. The actress and comedian opens up about her salaries for Bridesmaids and the Pitch Perfect trilogy.
Wilson writes in the book that she was paid only $3,500 for 2011’s Bridesmaids, which starred Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy (Wilson played Brynn, the obnoxious roommate of Wiig’s Annie Walker). But the entirety of her small check went to Screen Actors Guild fees to join the union. Nevertheless, “that didn’t matter to me,” Wilson writes. “The experience was everything!”
Wilson notes she booked six new gigs within two weeks of Bridesmaids‘ release, one of which was the 2012 a cappella smash hit, Pitch Perfect.
“Boy, did that movie pay dividends!” Wilson writes, noting she was paid “SAG minimum scale, which was $65,000,” for the film. Pitch Perfect’s success spawned two sequels, in...

“John Tucker Must Die” is being resurrected.
The beloved high school rom-com that had a Shakespearean revenge premise is getting the delayed-sequel treatment, according to one the original film’s stars Arielle Kebbel. She’ll not just reprise her role of Carrie in this one, but also produce.
“John Tucker Must Die” centered around a philandering popular jock (Jesse Metcalfe) whose series of girlfriends devise a plan to turn the heartbreak tables around on him. Enter: Brittany Snow. The 2006 film also starred Sophia Bush, Penn Badgley, and the singer Ashanti. It was directed by Betty Thomas.
John Tucker, who definitely ain’t dead yet, may even get a redemption arc in this one.
“I’ve heard rumors of this script — there’s a script,” Metcalfe said earlier this week during a panel at Epic Cons Chicago (via E! Online). “Apparently, it’s amazing.”

Having it’s World Premiere at SXSW on March 14 was Alex Garland’s Civil War.
The Hollywood Reporter says, “The audience reaction to the film has been very effusive, with viewers calling it a riveting, disturbing, masterful piece of filmmaking (read the audience and critic first reactions).”
The consensus of many of the reviews out of the film festival in Austin say the film is brilliant:
“With the precision and length of its violent battle sequences, it’s clear Civil War operates as a clarion call. Garland wrote the film in 2020 as he watched cogs on America’s self-mythologizing exceptionalist machine turn, propelling the nation into a nightmare. With this latest film, he sounds the alarm, wondering less about how a country walks blindly into its own destruction and more about what happens when it does,” says Lovia Gyarkye in her review over at The Hollywood Reporter.

If the Academy judged features by the same standards that they do live action shorts, the best picture ballot would be full of starry, quasi-political issue movies: well-meaning but manipulative films like “Father Stu” and “The Janes.” In this category, it’s the message that matters to Oscar voters, which makes this year’s “2024 Oscar Nominated Short Films: Live Action” program (available exclusively in theaters from ShortsTV) one of the most frustrating lineups in recent memory. Or it would, if not for the presence of one genuinely brilliant, liberatingly unserious nominee among them. That would be “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” the best of several delightful Roald Dahl adaptations director Wes Anderson cooked up for Netflix … but we’ll come to that in due time.
