We are totally buggin’ out over the possibility of a “Clueless” remake.
Et’s Rachel Smith spoke to Stacey Dash and Elisa Donovan at ’90s Con over the weekend, where they opened up about the likelihood of getting the gang back together for another look at the ’90s classic.
“That would be up to Amy,” Dash said of the decision being down to the film’s director, Amy Heckerling.
“Everybody seems to think that we have some sort of opinion or idea,” Donovan added. “I certainly feel like there is a real desire from fans and the public to see that.”
As for what a remake of the iconic film would look like, Donovan and Dash said they’d like to see the cast as adults.

Will Eisner’s groundbreaking 1978 graphic novel A Contract With God is being developed into a stage musical featuring music by Sam Hollander, Lisa Loeb, Matisyahu, Ryan Miller and Jill Sobule.
Teg+, the recently launched venture of Broadway producer Vivek J. Tiwary, has acquired the stage rights, and Hollander, who has composed songs for Panic! At The Disco, One Direction and Katy Perry, will serve as music producer.
Teg+ is currently in the process of securing a book writer for the musical adaptation.
First published in 1978, A Contract With God is considered a pioneering effort in the history of graphic novels, and consists of four interweaving stories revolving chronicling the lives of various New Yorkers — many Jewish and many immigrants — living in a fictional tenement house.
In announcing the project today, Teg+ said “All of the members of the songwriting team are Jewish musicians and composers wishing to honor their Jewish...

Marge cuts through a forest looking for a tree in The Simpsons season 31, episode 6, Marge the Lumberjill.

The Simpsons Season 31 Episode 6
The Simpsons, season 31, episode 6, "Marge the Lumberjill," doesn't quite cut it. And it should. It has enough buzz saws and chain saws for a dozen massacres in Texas, but only prunes artisanal marijuana in Oregon. The promises of the premises are left at the door mat before there are any indents on the couch.
When The Simpsons softened their animation they cut the edges off their most effective humor. Here they have a chance to skewer extreme cases of the breaks in community ideals and they merely tweak them. The Simpsons are not showing the proper disrespect ideals need to face in order to prove their worth in Springfield, and especially not Timbersports, a glorified hobby. The episode only gives passing ecological commentary,...

Before Monday’s Night 3 of The Voice’s Season 16 Blind Auditions, we’d been introduced to a duo (that was sent to The Comeback Stage), a trio (that was recruited by Blake Shelton), a one-woman party machine (Team Blake’s Kim Cherry) and a singer whose soulful vocals were so old-school raw, they could’ve been accompanied by the sound of a needle dragging across vinyl (Domenic Haynes, who, heaven help him, joined Team Adam Levine). But had we met any serious contenders yet? Maybe Team John Legend’s Maelyn Jarmon, whose sublime take on Sting left me buzzing, or Matthew Johnson,...

Today we are talking to an instantly recognizable stage stalwart who has lit up Broadway and beyond for more than three decades since her debut in William Finn's In Trousers - the one and only Mary Testa. Discussing all aspects of her exemplary new album created in collaboration with acclaimed orchestrator Michael Starobin, Have Faith, Testa imparts the impetus behind the concept album and outlines what motivated the wildly eclectic song choices included on the release - ranging from the Beach Boys, Prince and Aerosmith to Michael John Lachiusa, William Finn, Jill Sobule and many more. Furthermore, Testa eloquently describes the fascinating and compelling theme upon which the album is based - the journey of a soul through life ostensibly a search for faith - and relates the sonic experience to her own spiritual pursuits. Additionally, Testa clues us in on what we can expect from her upcoming promotional...

A review of tonight's "Girls" coming up just as soon as Chachi means what I think it means... "Girls" is about Hannah Horvath's adventures as a woman in her early-mid 20s, and all the exciting and terrifying things that go along with that time of your life. But just because she's on her own, living with her boyfriend, hanging out with her friends, working at a job and (mostly) doing what she wants, she still has roots, still has a family she's tied up in, and one of the smartest things "Girls" has done — and done consistently — is to remind us of where Hannah came from and how that shaped her. The show has done fairly well with family in general — we've also met Marnie's mom, Jessa's dad and Adam's sister — and this year got some good mileage out of Gaby Hoffmann as Adam's sister, but this is Hannah's show,...

Considering it's where most of us (bar the weird home-schooled kids) spend our crucial formative years, where we have our first fights, our first loves, our first tentative steps into adulthood, it's no surprise that high school has long been a popular setting for movies. A range of genres (though generally leaning towards comedy) have taken place in those hallways, particularly from the 1980s onwards, when John Hughes, among others, made an entire career out of the lives and loves of 15-18 year olds.
The latest film to head back to class is "21 Jump Street" (review here) the big-screen reboot of the '80s TV show, which stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as youthful-looking cops who are sent back to high school in order to bust a drug-running ring. While you might assume this to be another lazy remake, you'd be very wrong, as Tatum, Hill, co-writer Michael Bacall,...

The movie Yentl has a special place in many of our hearts. Barbra Streisand's Yentl, who pretends to be a man (Anshel) in order to pursue her dreams in a male profession, is something most women relate to. And for les/bis, seeing a decidedly un-macho Anshel on a honeymoon with Amy Irving's Hadass stirs up feelings that have little to do with the actual plot. Although the film makes clear that Anshel is sexually attracted to Avigdor (Mandy Patinkin), the chemistry between Hadass and Anshel is palatable.
In Yentl the Yeshiva Boy, the Isaac Bashevis Singer short story that provides the basis for the film, the exploration of gender identity is more overt. Yentl believes that she was born into the wrong gender and assuming the identity of Anshel is a complex journey that takes a much different direction than Streisand chose for her film. In fact,...

Sit down, buckle up and be prepared to see every Glee girl ship/crackship/ship you never knew you shipped come alive before your very eyes. Glee has released the performance video for "I Kissed a Girl" and it’s an orgy of shipper delights. Brittana? Clearly. Faberry? Obviously. Pezberry? Duh. Quina? Please, what are we, amateurs? Is there a name for Santana/Brittany/Sugar yet? Because it’s in there. See for yourself.
Let’s all squeal simultaneously for about 30 seconds, and then we sort of need to talk. Ok, are we ready? Now.
Right, so that was a whole lotta fun. Still, as fun and fluffy and wish-fulfilling as that little ditty was, I have some issues.
First and foremost, it is perhaps the most amateur cliché move in the world to set anything involving lesbians or girls who kiss to Katy Perry’s "I Kissed a Girl.

We remember Alicia Silverstone having quite the impressive (and expansive) wardrobe in "Clueless," but we didn't remember there being this many costume changes.
It makes you appreciate the costume department of the still-awesome 1995 teen comedy all the more when you see all of Cher's various duds in rapid-fire succession like this. It's even more fun to see it all set to Jill Sobule's "Supermodel." Ah, 1995...

Actually, we're going to go dig up our old VHS copy of it right now. In the interim, enjoy the "Clueless" wardrobe montage, courtesy of YouTube, and thanks to BuzzFeed for the find.

Unless you're a top-shelf superstar with major label clout or a cult band with a fiercely devoted following (and a healthy merchandising business), it can be difficult to get the funds together to record an album. Plenty of artists have turned directly to their fans to solicit donations for production purposes (including high profile campaigns from Public Enemy and Jill Sobule), but few have gone to the lengths that hip-hop outlier Princess Superstar is willing to go to make her next album.
Superstar (born Concetta Kirschner) has had a bit of buzz in her career (the media called her "Feminem" when she first debuted because she was a white female rapper, her single "Bad Babysitter" got a bit of traction and her Kool Keith-assisted 2001 album Princess Superstar Is got a healthy dose of attention), but has never really had anything close to a hit. Hey, remember that song "I Kissed A Girl?" No, we aren't talking about the pop song by Katy Perry, we're referring to that catchy hit by Jill Sobule that came out in 1995. The song was something of a lesbian anthem, telling the light-hearted story of two suburban ladies who fall in love with each other. Jill's "I Kissed A Girl" launched her to superstardom and the song's silly video with male model Fabio was an instant hit. However, when Katy's similarly-titled song came out in 2008, music critics were miffed because they felt Katy was stealing Jill's song title and stripping...

Jill Sobule and Julia Sweeney might not at first seem an ideal show-business team; the experiential divide between comics and musicians is sufficiently wide that you rarely find them even attempting to forge a bond. (That Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis remain the most successful such duo isn't exactly inspirational.) But when you give the matter a moment's thought, you begin to see some common ground between the two performers: Sweeney, remember, glanced the Zeitgeist with her portrayal of a sexually ambiguous character named Pat; and Sobule scored a hit with her sexually ambiguous single, "I Kissed a Girl." More substantively, now both are forty-something women in an industry largely blind to anyone over thirty, and while each retains a certain girlishness--Sweeney's breathy, often giggling line delivery, and Sobule's bright, insouciant vocals--beneath the surface there's nothing gamine about...

Last year, when Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" stormed the charts and radio airwaves, people of a certain age wondered aloud, "Why would anybody want to cover a Jill Sobule song?" To which people of an entirely different (translation: much younger) responded, "Who is Jill Sobule?" The singer-songwriter — who also had a hit with a song called "I Kissed a Girl" in 1995 — talked to The Rumpus about how she felt about the song. "As a musician I have always refrained from criticizing another artist. I was, 'Well, good for her,'" she told the Web site. "It did bug me a little bit, however, when she said she came up with the idea for the title in a dream. In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995. I have not mentioned that in...

You would think that a cross-cultural, cross-religious lesbian romance should have enough built-in conflict to sustain an 80-minute feature, but Shamim Sarif's "I Can't Think Straight" slumps and stretches its way from its first uninspired set piece, an engagement party for Jordanian-Christian Tala (Lisa Ray), to its mildly embarrassing closing montage, cut to, natch, Jill Sobule's "I Kissed a Girl" (hello, 1995!). As with her other feature, "The World Unseen" (released to theaters earlier this month), Sarif adapts and directs her own novel here, with Ray and Sheetal Sheth playing the lead roles. For "I Can't Think Straight," she enlists the help of co-writer Kelly Moss, but to no avail: Sarif has crafted a movie with such paper-thin characterizations and so lacking in dramatic incident that it's frankly surprising that she was working from a novel at all -- much less one she wrote herself.

This Week In Terrifying Hybrids 1. "I Kissed A Girl" - Jill Sobule + A desperate need for attention + a trend report from 1996 = Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" Being a "bi" for attention: it's sooo hot right now! Actually, it was popular a while ago—see Girls Gone Wild, the Britney/Madonna kiss of aught three, practically every television show on Fox/the WB/CW since Ally McBeal—but the SongBot 3000 that wrote this song was a little slow in uploading all the trend data needed for the lyrics. The fact that a song about kissing a girl for attention can still be presented as "a controversial hit", thirteen years after a song by Jill Sobule about kissing a girl actually was a controversial hit indicates that something went wrong somewhere. The best part about Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl," if...

- To answer The Lovin’ Spoonful’s eternal question; Yes. Yes I do. Especially after attending a screening of Sarah*lightofmylife*Silverman’s Jesus is Magic. In fact, you can go right ahead and label me a eunuch ‘cuz this movie was so goddamn funny I laughed my freakin’ balls off. Actually I was only laughing on the inside. On the outside I was crying. Crying from clenching my stomach so hard to stop me from guffawing like a maniac. There were only 4 of us at the screening, I didn’t wanna seem “rude”. Either the 3 others were dead inside, or they were robots, or robots who are dead inside. Either way I didn’t hear so much as a chuckle or a rusty jaw clamping down. Our fearless leader Eric will regale you next week with his review of Jesus is Magic, but in the meantime you’ll haveta

Emma Roberts has been cast in the lead of a new comedy pilot under consideration at Nickelodeon. The 12-year-old niece of Julia Roberts and daughter of Eric Roberts will play the preteen protagonist of Unfabulous, which chronicles the life of a musically inclined junior high school student. Created by Sue Rose (Pepper Ann), Unfabulous began production last week in Los Angeles. Unfabulous is Emma Roberts' first TV role; she has appeared in films including Blow and Spymate and is attached to star in the upcoming film Daisy Winters. After a meeting with Emma Roberts this year, Nickelodeon was determined to work with her. "We had a great meeting and came away very impressed by her," Nickelodeon senior vp talent Paula Kaplan said. "When 'Unfabulous' came along, we knew we had found just the right project for her." Unfabulous chronicles the life and times of 12-year-old Ally, who periodically breaks into song to describe her feelings. Roberts will do her own singing for the part. Each episode opens with an embarrassing incident that happens to Ally. The story line then retreats backward in time to explain how she came to find herself in the opening mishap. The comical songs will be composed by Jill Sobule, a singer-songwriter whose credits include the hit "I Kissed a Girl." Emma Roberts is repped by manager David Sweeney at Sweeney Management. Her deal was brokered by Neil Meyer of Stone, Meyer & Genow.
