The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) recently announced that it will replace its longstanding Board of Trustees with a new Board of Directors. The news follows a multi-year restructuring of the Academy’s bylaws and governance to be more representative of the industry communities it serves.
The first class of Board members will initially serve terms of one, two, or three years each. Adam Sharp remains President & CEO, and Terry O’Reilly remains Chair.
The organization that oversees the Daytime Emmy Awards noted that a national membership model organized around peer groups will elect future Directors to full three-year terms.
The initial Board includes (listed alphabetically):
Eva Basler Phillip Bell Bob Boden Jared Bowen David Burt, First Vice Chair Joan Cartan-Hansen André Hepkins Jeremy Hubbard Martha Kattan Ronit Larone Julie Lucas, Secretary Theresa Maher Johnson, Treasurer Michelle McHugh Terry O’Reilly, Chair Amy Schmelzer Adam Sharp, President & CEO...

David Solomon has stepped back from his DJing gig, leaving him with only the meager job title of Goldman Sachs CEO.
Solomon, who was named chief executive of the investment bank in 2018, has performed at a handful of high profile corporate events over the years, donating proceeds from the shows to charities combatting addiction. However, those appearances didn’t go over well with Goldman traders, the Financial Times reports.
Solomon has appeared at Amazon events, Super Bowl parties, and even last year’s Lollapalooza. According to sources familiar with the matter, however, insiders were uneasy with his decision to spin records at the 2019 Belgian music festival Tomorrowland, which is known for heavy drug use. The following year, he apologized to the board for appearing at a Chainsmokers concert at the Hamptons, which violated social distancing protocols at the height of the pandemic and earned promoters a $20,000 fine.

San Francisco, July 1 (Ians) Goldman Sachs, which partnered Apple on the launch of Apple Card four years ago, may be eyeing an exit and is reportedly planning to offload its partnership to American Express.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the investment banking firm is “looking for a way out” of its high-profile deal with Apple.
“A retreat from the Apple credit card would effectively end Goldman Sachs’s consumer-lending business,” the report noted.
Apple and Goldman did not immediately comment on the report. The shift to American Express could affect where Apple cardholders can use their card. Apple Cards are currently issued by Mastercard, which is accepted at a majority of retailers across the US, while American Express has a bit less reach.
Apple launched its credit card in partnership with Goldman Sachs in 2019. Earlier this year, Goldman CEO David Solomon said he was “considering strategic alternatives” for the investment firm’s consumer arm.

New Delhi, Jan 17 (Ians) Global investment firm Goldman Sachs sacked more than 3,000 employees in disguise of business meetings as early as 7.30 a.m. and the meetings with senior managers were put on Google calendar under “false pretenses”, the media reported.
The New York Post reported that Goldman Sachs’ CEO David Solomon “e-mailed calendar invites that called targeted employees to phony ‘business meetings’ at its New York headquarters” last week.
Once the employees arrived at the conference room — some as early as 7.30 a.m. — they were told by their managers that they were being fired.
“Managers were sorry to do this but their hand was forced and they wished him the best of luck,” the report said, citing inside sources.
Another employee was told to arrive at 7:30 am for a call with Goldman counterparts in the Asia-Pacific region.

San Francisco, Dec 30 (Ians) After a holiday lull, more layoffs are around the corner and several companies across the spectrum, led by tech firms, are set to layoff thousands of employees, starting January.
According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the US, January is the highest month for layoff and discharges.
“Business leaders want to set up finances for success in 2023. It’s a good bet that tech companies that haven’t yet laid off employees are carefully considering whether or not to do so,” according to J.P. Gownder, vice president and principal analyst for advisory firm Forrester Research.
“It wouldn’t be surprising to see more layoffs in the next few weeks,” he told Wall Street Journal.
December marks the end of the fiscal year for many companies, making January an ideal month for “organisational realignment and adjustment”.

Directed by Tyler Lee Allen and starring KateLynn E.Newberry, Isolated heads to DVD and digital on June 14th and we have the exclusive trailer premiere!
"The self-contained mystery/action thriller, similar in concept to Red Eye and Devil, tells of a woman that wakes up trapped inside of a room with no memory of who she is or how she got there. As she fights to find a way to escape, she ends up talking to a man in a room next to hers, that claims he, too, is trapped. As she questions whether or not to trust this man, she starts to remember things from her past that lead her to question not only where she might be, but also what she might be."

How Jennifer Lopez Is Helping Shine a Light on Latina Entrepreneurs Ahead of Hispanic Heritage Month
Jenny headed back to the Block to do some good. On Sunday, Sept. 12, fresh from her Venice getaway, Jennifer Lopez attended an intimate discussion in her native borough of the Bronx, N.Y. The event, which highlighted the new mission-driven platform, Limitless Labs—was held at the Lit Bar, a Latina-owned bookstore not far from where Jennifer grew up. The discussion also featured Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, U.S. Small Business Administration administrator Isabel Guzman, and a group of Latina business owners in the Bronx. J.Lo's other half, Ben Affleck, was in attendance and also spent time with the entrepreneurs. He was even reported to have purchased an...

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday the Department of Health has charged concert promoter In the Know Experiences with public health violations at Southampton summer concert featuring the band the Chainsmokers. The state is seeking $20,000 in fines for non-essential gathering and not enforcing mask wearing.
The July ‘Safe and Sound Concert Series’ caused an uproar on social media and the Doh launched a probe, determining the crowd was more than 2,150 for the concert in Water Mill. It had been billed as a drive-in with ticket packages ranging from $850 to an uber-vip option for $25,000 that accommodated RVs. Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon was spinning tracks. Profits were earmarked for charity.
The Empire State, which had been the U.S. epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic early on, was then banning gatherings of more than 50 people.

The New York State Department of Health is investigating a concert headlined by the Chainsmokers in the Hamptons over the weekend, which appeared to violate social distancing and other Covid-19 guidelines.
The Safe and Sound charity event was touted as a drive-in concert where guests would be allowed to sit outside their cars in designated areas that were at least six feet apart. The Chainsmokers headlined the show, which also featured performances from DJ D-Sol — the stage name of Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon — singer-songwriter Matt White, and Southampton town...

President Donald Trump is sticking close to home this weekend, forgoing his usual rounds of golf at his Sterling, Va. country club and hunkering down in the White House. That leaves plenty of time for tweeting and retweeting on his favorite issues.
Today’s flurry of activity via Twitter saw little in the way of controversy, as he focused on praise from his friends and accomplishments of his administration.
That follows an epic tweetstorm on Saturday, also a non-golf day, where the Commander-in-Tweet posted several thoughts per hour, capping the night with the news that he’s moving the upcoming G7 meetings and the observation that “Hillary’s gone Crazy!”
We’ll update as the day rolls on and more tweets come in. The tweetstorm so far:
“The ceasefire is holding up very nicely. There are some minor skirmishes that have ended quickly.

As the new CEO of Goldman Sachs, David Solomon makes north of $15 million a year. Not bad. Not bad at all. Must be nice to have that kind of dough. But let me ask you something…
Do earnings calls slap?
Can you surrender yourself to the rhythm of a billion-dollar buyout?
With Steve Mnuchin and his transition lenses having left the private sector for the Treasury, is there even anyone left in this mother who knows how to properly turn out a C-suite? You know, like they did back in the Nineties?...

Firefly, Season 1, Episode 8, “Out of Gas”
Directed by David Solomon
Written by Tim Minear
Aired October 25th, 2002 on Fox
Given that at this point it was pretty obvious that Firefly would not last more than one season, and may indeed have already been canceled, it seems the perfect time for the show to try for a truly inventive installment. Written by Mvp of the writing staff Tim Minear, “Out of Gas” succeeds in spades, and even manages to give some members of the crew something of substance to do that hadn’t had the opportunity to this point. The triple-timeline format—a combination of present day, the very near past, and the long ago past—is presented as straightforward to the audience as possible, when it would be just as easy to overcomplicate the entire thing for the sake of false profundity. Mal, clearly injured and struggling to survive for some unknown reason,...

The episode title “One Door Closes” is a play on the old saying, “When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” Agents of Shield is focused almost exclusively on Agent-now-Director Coulson and his team, even more so after the fall of Shield. In “One Door Closes”, the writers of Agents of Shield ask the audience a lot of important questions. Are Coulson and his team in charge because they are the best people for the job, or does the audience want Coulson in charge because it is the only possibility they have been presented with? Sorry beer, you've had your day. At the time of writing this, mere months south of 40, I'm finding that beer only leads to woozy inertia and a flabby gut worthy of Homer Simpson. No good can come from excess beer – I've even been told so by Buffy The Vampire Slayer in the latest episode which is appropriately called Beer Bad.
In Sunnydale, it's now even impossible to drink a pint of beer without something weird happening. Some of the more obnoxious patrons of the Sunnydale University pub have gone all caveman after sinking copious pints of ale. If you're new to this metaphor lark, then this essentially means that Too Much Beer = Rowdy Caveman. Even with a thumping hangover, it's still easy to deduce the moral of Beer Bad's flimsy excuse for a story. If only there was a bit more to it than this.
"The fault lies with the...

Falling Skies is mutating at the pace of its aliens. Where will it end up, asks Ron?
This review contains spoilers.
4.8 A Thing With Feathers
As usual, Falling Skies takes the easier, happier way out. After the downturn in mood of last week's episode, in which the Espheni scored a victory over the Second Mass thanks to some poor civic planning and an exposed, exploding gas line, Falling Skies reverts to the mean this week by using the miraculous alien technology at their disposal to correct a pesky, depressing turn away from the happy and soap opera that the show typically trades in. Unsurprisingly, the episode is titled A Thing With Feathers, which is a line cribbed from the Emily Dickinson poem.
On the surface, the surviving major characters emerge from their fallout shelter, having successfully snookered the aliens by hiding from their scanners and explosives after the failure of...

The problem with reviewing The Prom is that it's kind of difficult to relate to. Being a decrepit dinosaur, in my day (last three words typed in the creaky voice of an old fart), there wasn't such a big deal with end of year proms – shindigs and hootenannys maybe, but tame stuff compared to today. 10 mile limousines can be seen from miles on end in the 21st century, ferrying tuxedo and frock-clad youngsters, who always seem to be dwarfed by the massive upholstery of the swanky poshmobiles.
I suppose it seemed to be a bigger thing in the Us, and was just one of those things that caught on in Britain a bit later. Proms are the stuff of movie legends, whether you're a fan of horror (Carrie), '80s brat pack flicks (Pretty In Pink) or heavily sideburned cheese (Grease), so it's only right that Buffy The Vampire Slayer...

I know that a lot of you are like me and have extended cable/subscription TV, and may also be like me in that you’re not familiar with every single channel on your converter. If so, please allow me to introduce you to new channel Pivot, whose target market is reportedly Millenials, the 18-34-year-olds. Target markets always crack me up, especially in this case, because one of the shows they have picked up was broadcast when some Millenials were toddlers.
Anyway, the good news for us is that Pivot has picked up Buffy the Vampire Slayer and will be showing episodes Monday through Friday late night, starting January 13. It’s being paired with Veronica Mars, and together they are billed as a “Buffy and Veronica Power Hours Block” at 10/9c and 11/10c. Presumably the Buffy episodes will go at 10, but Veronica, though not a show we cover here,...

Once Upon A Time, Season 3, Episode 8: “Think Lovely Thoughts”
Written by David H. Goodman & Robert Hull
Directed by David Solomon
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
Once Upon a Time continues to pick up steam with this week’s “Think Lovely Thoughts”. It has suspense, drama, and a little comedy, all things that caused us to fall in love with Once back in the very beginning. “Think Lovely Thoughts” definitely maneuvers its way into the Once Hall of Fame and the writers prove to us, once again, that they still have some dandy little tricks up their sleeves.
The episode’s main focus is on saving Henry. We are also graced with another welcome glimpse into Rumplestiltskin’s past life. This story demonstrates that the writers are still very capable of creating magical episodes like those from the first season. This week they spend extra time crafting and molding Rumple’s childhood story.

Director: David Solomon. Writers: Robert Rodat and John Wirth. Cast: Doug Jones, Brad Kelly, Maxim Knight and Alissa Skovbye. Tonight's episode (July 21st) of "Falling Skies," titled "Strange Brew," was brought to you by the Wachowski brothers (The Matrix). Much of "Strange Brew" involves a mind manipulating machine, which was trying to delve into Tom Mason's (Noah Wyle) subconscious. The first act felt like something out of The Matrix, or Christopher Nolan's Inception, but it also felt predictable and poorly set-up. Meanwhile, the main story arc for Season 3 of "Falling Skies" is forgotten, while Lourdes (Seychelle Gabriel) continues her evilness back at the Charleston camp. "Strange Brew" seemed to be caught in some sort of plot progression void, which made this episode seem like a time filler. The story began with the main protagonist, Tom Mason. He wakes up as if seasons one and two of the show...

Ron reviews an ambitiously weird episode of Falling Skies...
Falling Skies is not a show that likes to linger too much on things that happen off-screen. The first season starts with humanity in the midst of a fight against the aliens. The second season introduces a bunch of new characters, kills off other ones, and relies on the viewer to watch a web series and read a comic book tie-in for further information. The third season jumped right into the thick of things, too, with Anne massively pregnant and immediately giving birth, with the home viewers having missed pretty much everything from the end of the second season to President Tom Mason.
This week's episode starts out with Tom waking up next to his wife. No, not Anne; his first wife, Rebecca, is there beside a clean-shaven and nearly unrecognizable Professor Tom Mason as...

These days we see a lot of behind the scenes videos and featurettes for movies. It has become part of the marketing campaign from the studios. They didn't really do this kind of thing back in the day, but we've got something for all of you die-hard Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans! This incredibly fun 30-minute behind the scenes video is sure to make fans of the series giddy. I had a great time watching this!
The video was uploaded by stunt coordinator Jeff Pruitt, and it's from the second season. It features several members of the cast and crew, and includes footage of stunts, fighting, shooting scenes, costumes, and lots of fun goofiness.
Here's a explanation of the video:

Once Upon A Time, Season 2, Episode 4: “The Crocodile”
Written by David H. Goodman & Robert Hull
Directed by David Solomon
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
A sentimental interaction between Belle and Rumplestiltskin is how the fourth episode of Once Upon a Time kicks off. We quickly find out that the scene is just a nightmare of Belle’s. When she goes to find Rumplestiltskin, however, we discover that he is in the basement, still experimenting with magic. Cue the opening credit scene and now the episode’s engine has started and is racing towards the finish line.
Robert Carlyle finally gets a full episode to shine this season (and not just in the glittery skin that Rumplestiltskin possesses in the past world). We have gotten to see bits and pieces of Carlyle throughout the first three episodes, but nothing like this. He takes every scene that he is in and commands it.

Grimm, Season 2, Episode 3: “Bad Moon Rising”
Written by Richard Hatem
Directed by David Solomon
Airs Mondays at 10pm Et on NBC (Fridays at 9pm Et starting 9/14)
This week, redneck Coyotls try to abduct/induct a new female into their pack, Juliette remembers everything but Nick, and Hank starts to lose it completely. This episode is a mix of a standard “missing child” procedural with one-dimensional villains and a slow reveal for Hank at the appropriate moment. Not only does omnipresent Mark Pellegrino guest star, but so do John Pyper-Ferguson, currently recurring on Alphas, and Maddie Hasson, who played a wayward gypsy on the underrated gem The Finder.
Hank takes the news awfully well, as opposed to Juliette’s freak out when Nick tried to tell her the truth. Perhaps the fact that Hank works side-by-side by Nick and has actually seen the unexplainable means that there are only two...

It’s a busy day for Grimm news, as we have two new characters cast for the drama’s upcoming second season.
According to TV Guide, Maddie Hasson (The Finder, above) will appear in an upcoming episode. No word on her character name or what episode she will be in, but the episode’s director (and former Buffy producer) David Solomon had this to say about her character: ”She plays the daughter of a nice guy…Father and daughter live together, mother’s gone. And she gets kidnapped by family members and held hostage because they want to bring her back into the family.” No word on whether she will be in more than just the one episode.
And Entertainment Weekly has the other scoop, reporting that Alice Evans of Vampire Diaries fame has been cast as Mia, a character who will appear in the sixth episode of the second season.
