Heading into Mipcom, French television executive Pascal Breton has partnered with a group of film and television producers and showrunners to launch Federation Entertainment.
Based in Paris with development and marketing offices in Los Angeles, Federation Entertainment will be led by head of worldwide distribution Jean-Michel Ciszewski.
One of its debut commissions is Netflix’s previously-announced first French original series Marseille, a political drama due to hit screens at the end of 2015.
The creation of Federation Entertainment is a sign that traditional TV production practices are changing in France.
“Federation Entertainment is a new kind of company to meet the demands of a new era in entertainment,” said Breton.
“Federation Entertainment is an industry game-changer, offering producers and showrunners unique partnership opportunities and offering programmers worldwide an unprecedented wealth of major creative talent.”
Breton was the head of Marathon Entertainment, the French production company group behind series such as Dolmen and Saint-Tropez.

You've got to hand it to Paramount, they have dominated the news cycle at the beginning of this week with news, reviews, posters, a new trailer and interviews centered on their upcoming animated feature The Adventures of Tintin, co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson with Spielberg taking the director's chair on this first installment. I'll begin with the early reviews as The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Indiewire lavish praise on the film, suggesting we're in store for "one thrilling set-piece after another" "with subtle finesse throughout, exploiting 3D's potential just enough to make the action scenes that much more effective without overdoing it" resulting in "a good ol' fashioned adventure flick that harkens back to the [Steven Spielberg]'s action-packed, tongue-in-cheek swashbucklers of the 1980s." Of course, the film doesn't hit stateside theaters until December 21, so we're talking about praise that's going to have to stick around for some time. No worries,...

It would seem anticipation for Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin is growing with every new trailer released so is it wrong to assume this latest international trailer will be any different? Of course, there is also that pesky doubt improved trailers can pose as we learned from Green Lantern earlier this year. However, when a new trailer for a Spielberg film begins conjuring comparisons to the filmmakers earlier and much loved work I think it's safe to assume people are liking it for what they're seeing, not for what they've been duped into perceiving.
With that I give you the latest UK trailer for Tintin, which is set to hit theaters on December 21, although it will be arriving across the pond on October 26 as the Us and Canada will be among the last territories to see it... outside of our readers in Brazil who will have to wait...

Paramount Pictures has released a new international movie trailer for the Peter Jackson-produced Steven Spielberg-directed performance capture animated adaptation of The Adventures of Tintin. If you were skeptical after the initial teaser trailer, this full length preview might just win you over. Its great to actually see more action this time around. I have to admit, the action sequences feel more like a modern Indiana Jones film than Crystal Skull. Watch the trailer now embedded after the jump. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below. If you haven't been paying attention the last few years, let me explain how huge a project Tintin seems to be. A joint production between Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, Tintin uses revolutionary motion capture technology. Apparently the character is huge outside the Us, and fans everywhere have been curious of what Spielberg and Jackson have been doing. The film has a huge price tag and, if this one makes bank, Peter Jackson will be directing the sequel. A lot hinges on this film's success. But does the first footage show the next Avatar, or just another Robert Zemeckis abortion?
First of all, just this minute and a half alone points to a better looking film then what Zemeckis would vomit up. Hell, it's not even apparent that the film is CGI until half way in. You can't really deny that the film doesn't look good and polished (but this...

Paramount Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for the Peter Jackson-produced Steven Spielberg-directed performance capture animated adaptation of The Adventures of Tintin. I think its interesting that it doesn't become obvious that this is a computer animated film until about 30 seconds in. Its also interesting that the "Secret of the Unicorn" subtitle has been removed, but I guess The Adventures of Tintin is simpler and easier to sell (and they'll need all the help they can get to sell it in the Us market). While Tintin is incredibly popular in international territories, the character is rather unknown in the states. And the problem with this teaser trailer is that it doesn't explain much -- it doesn't explain who Tintin is. At the teaser trailer stage, the performance capture computer rendered animation looks better than most of the Robert Zemeckis-helmed projects. I suppose this will play in...

A biopic is currently under developed charting the life and times of Madame Tussaud, the French woman after which so many wax museums have been named. The franchise itself is global, and currently owned by Merlin Entertainments, grossing tens of millions of pounds annually. The lady behind the famous brand is sadly not as well known.
Stephane Sperry has been signed to produce the project, currently titled Madame T, while his company, Liasion Films are currently raising funds for the project in partnership with Bruno Ledoux and Double Entente Films. The screenplay has been written by Alessamdro Camon (“The Messenger“).

Most know little of Madame Tussaud, except that her name is synonymous with tourist attractions containing wax statues of the most recent Big Brother contestant or philandering footballer. Today, Madam Tussaud’s is a global business franchise own by Merlin entertainments and grossing tens of millions of pounds annually and, yet, very few people know anything about the woman after whom the wax-work museum is named. This could be about to change with the announcement that the story of Marie Tussaud’s life is to be adapted for the silver screen.
Stephane Sperry has been identified as the film’s producer- provisionally entitled Madame T – and his company, Liasion Films, will be raising funds for the film in conjunction with Ledoux and Double Entente Films. The screenplay has already been completed by Alessamdro Camon (The Messenger) and Bruno Ledoux and is currently doing the round of the producers favoured- though thus far unnamed- directors.

Everyone knows about the famous Madame Tussaud wax museum, but little do people know about the actual Madame Tussaud. According to CinemaBlend via Variety, people will finally learn about the woman behind the famous name and wax shop because a biopic is in the works. According to the sites, producer Stephane Sperry is set to get started on “Madame T”, the first known biopic of Madame Tussaud (a Swiss-born artist who was actually named Marie Grossholz) which will cover Tussaud’s extremely interesting life, which included, according to the two sites, creating death masks for Marie Antoinette and Louis Xiv, surviving the French Revolution, and coming extremely close to being beheaded. It looks as though the queen of creepy-looking celebrity wax sculptures is going to be getting her own piece of art, this time, of a celluloid nature.
Variety is reporting that Madame Tussaud will be getting a biopic. Entitled Madame T, the film is being penned by Alessandro Camon and Bruno Ledoux, with Stephane Sperry producing. The film will look at the icon’s interest in art in Paris in the late 1700s, up until her experience in the French Revolution where she created “death masks.”

Wax figures, they're a bit creepy-looking and sometimes they just really don't look like their real-life counterparts (like the Megan Fox one in Hollywood). Well we're not about to see crazy wax figures terrorize said local neighborhood, but instead Madame Tussaud is getting her own story ("Madame T") on the big screen. Does the name sound familiar? Because it really should. Madame Tussaud was a famous wax-figure artist whose interest in her art budded while in Paris in the late 1700s. It spanned from there to her harrowing experiences in the French Revolution, creating death masks and barely surviving the guillotine herself. Producing "Madame T" is Stephane Sperry under Liasion Films along with Double Entente and Ledoux Films. No word on who will write the script or direct the project at the moment.Source: Variety...

I've walked past the Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Times Square countless times, generally on my way to a movie, irritated with the tourists, and cursing under my breath at the people posing with wax Whoopi Goldberg on the sidewalk. For all of that grumbling I never even knew that Madame Tussaud was a real person, or that her life story is far more interesting than that of probably any tourists who's visited one of her many museums worldwide. So now maybe I'll finally have the chance to stop resenting Madame Tussaud and know a single thing about her-- and I'm sure I'm not the only person who knows nothing about her actual life. According to Variety, producer Stephane Sperry is moving forward with Madame T, the script by Alessandro Camon and Bruno Ledoux about the Swiss wax sculptor, who studied art in Paris only to barely survive the French...

The 2011 feature -- the first of two, possibly three, planned installments -- is being produced by Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy and Peter Jackson, who will direct the sequel. Jackson's Weta Digital effects house developed the performance-capture technology the directors will use.
Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook round out the voice cast. Nick Rodwell, Stephane Sperry and Ken Kamins are exec producing.
The screenplay, written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, is based on the character created in 1929 by Herge...

Universal's Focus Features and its international sales arm Focus Features International are joining forces with Uni's international production division to create a new, merged entity that will take a global approach to the film business.
James Schamus will continue to steer the course as Focus Features CEO. Christian Grass -- who joined Uni as its London-based president of international production in October 2007 to ramp up the company's international and local production efforts -- will take on the new title of co-ceo of Ffi. Andrew Karpen, president of Focus Features, will become president of the new entity.
Within the Uni family, Schamus and Grass already had begun to work together closely, particularly when it came to international distribution. So the move represents a reorganization that ties their fortunes together more tightly while providing the combined company with a more diversified portfolio.

As pointless remakes go, the new Assault on Precinct 13 is actually better than a lot of the recent bunch.
The 1976 John Carpenter original has been reworked enough to give the urban thriller a distinct flavor of its own, and stars (the Carpenter version didn't have any) Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne provide enough gravitas to keep things involving even as some of the supporting characters fight a losing battle with caricature.
But in the end, there just isn't sufficient edge-of-the-seat suspense to make the ultraviolent Assault a desired destination for the targeted young male audience, the majority of whom are likely unfamiliar with the film Carpenter made a couple of years before breaking out big time with Halloween.
Distributed by Focus Features genre division, Rogue Pictures, the film should, however, nab some significant business in its DVD stakeout.
To be fair, Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13, was itself a remake, inspired by the 1959 Howard Hawks film Rio Bravo, starring John Wayne and Dean Martin, which exchanged a Wild West town jail for a soon-to-be-shuttered Los Angeles police station that comes under siege by gang members.
Aside from being highly cost-effective, that one-set premise provided for plenty of neatly self-contained, claustrophobic tension that was nicely heightened by Carpenter's off-kilter synthesizer score.
For the brand-new edition, French director Jean-Francois Richet and screenwriter James DeMonaco (The Negotiator) have relocated the setting to an aging precinct on the outskirts of snow-choked Detroit during the closing hours of 2004.
The adverse weather conditions have forced a prison-bound busload of inmates to make a detour to the remote Precinct 13, even though it's in the process of closing down.
Among those being accommodated in its few cells is formidable crime lord Marion Bishop (Fishburne), whose presence puts a damper on the New Year's Eve festivities planned by the precinct's partying secretary, Iris (Drea de Matteo), and veteran cop Jasper Old School O'Shea (Brian Dennehy).
Even Sgt. Jake Roenick (Hawke) was up for the festivities despite still bearing the physical and emotional scars of a badly botched undercover drug sting months earlier that claimed the lives of his team.
But those plans are put on permanent hold when the station house comes under siege from not gang members but a crack force of gunmen commandeered by none other than Marcus Duvall (Gabriel Byrne), chief of the Organized Crime and Racketeering Squad who intends to eradicate Bishop and anybody else who gets in their way.
That cops-attacking-cops twist initially serves the script well until things start unraveling at the midway point. With a good 15 minutes to go before the end, DeMonaco and director Richet, having exhausted all possibilities involving the precinct, are forced to move the action outdoors, which causes the already slackening tension to sag further.
While Hawke and Fishburne do solid work, many of the supporting cast, including Maria Bello and John Leguizamo, are forced to grapple with shrill, stock characters that threaten to sink this Assault in tired B-movie conventions.

Focus Features has struck a two-year first-look pact with Priority Pictures, the U.K. film development, finance and production company formed in June by Colin Leventhal and Marion Pilowsky. The deal -- which gives Focus worldwide rights, including international sales, to Priority films made under the current deal -- encompasses advisory arrangements with Leventhal and Priority consultant Trea Hoving on potential acquisitions of European-based films for Focus to distribute. Focus already has a similar deal with Stephane Sperry's Paris-based Liaisons Films. The London-based Priority staff will work closely with Focus president of production John Lyons and Lee Magiday, Focus' U.K.-based vp and European acquisitions and productions executive.
