Exclusive: Password, the game show from Jimmy Fallon and hosted by Keke Palmer, is returning to NBC for a second season.
However, Deadline understands that filming of season two of the series has been postponed as a result of the writers strike with The Tonight Show host Fallon among those not wanting to cross the picket line.
The series was expected to film shortly on the Universal lot.
It marks the second major non-scripted series impacted by the writers strike; Deadline revealed earlier today that Mayim Bialik pulled out of hosting the final week of season 39 of Jeopardy! as a result of the strike.
Password launched last August and the first season’s episodes averaged 4.2M total viewers. NBC said it was the number one new show of summer 2022 and the most-watched summer alternative series premiere in two years.

NBC has greenlit a reboot of 1960s game show Password with Jimmy Fallon.
The network has given a series order to the project from Fremantle, which was recently taken out to market. Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, revealed the news during NBCU’s upfronts presentation earlier Monday.
She revealed it was one of six projects that The Tonight Show host was working on for the company including That’s My Jam and Kids Tonight Show. “That’s a great model to how we’re going to partner with our talent and creators moving forward,” she said.
Password was created by Bob Stewart for Goodson-Todman Productions, which is now owned by American Idol producer Fremantle.
In each game, two teams, composed of a celebrity player and a contestant, attempt to convey mystery words to each other using only single-word clues in order to win a cash prize.

The best award shows have their dubious moments, and the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards — which Snicks lovingly liveblogged last night– simply teemed with unexpected and bizarre moments that brought the best (and weirdest) out of many presenters. I also enjoyed planned hilarity like Kathy Griffin‘s presenter speech, in which she quoted four lines of nutty dialogue from nominated soap operas and Betty White‘s tribute to the late game show producer Bob Stewart. But here are five wacky moments I’m still thinking about.
1. Carrie Fisher’s wild introduction to the Best Animated Show category is inspiring, drug-fueled, and maybe poetic.
Carrie Fisher, the goddess who once composed my favorite tweet of all time (and I quote: “Oh BiPolar the way I’m on Letterman tonight w/ my peers Rihanna & Zac Efron pray 4 me”), introduced the Best Animated Show category. Struck me as apparent that she was...

Beverly Hills, Calif. — "Days of Our Lives" won drama series honors for just the second time in 40 years at the Daytime Emmys in a rough-hewn ceremony that included more upsets and an envelope mix-up on Sunday night.
The NBC soap opera that began in 1965 beat out defending champion "General Hospital" and former three-time winner "The Bold and the Beautiful," among others.
The category included the only four remaining soaps still airing on the broadcast networks in addition to "One Life to Live," which has found new life on the Internet after being canceled.
"Days" only other drama series win was in 1978.
The show claimed one other trophy: Chandler Massey as outstanding younger actor.
Doug Davidson of "The Young and the Restless" and Heather Tom of "The Bold and the Beautiful" won lead acting honors.
Davidson earned his first career trophy for a role he's played since 1978. Tom, who previously was on "Y&R,...

Every year I find myself searching for ways to cope with awful January grimness, and luckily I've found us a kickass anniversary to celebrate: Password debuted in primetime 50 years ago this week, and it remains one of the definitive entertainments in the wide, mysteriously under-respected world of game shows. Like with most great game shows including To Tell the Truth, The Price is Right, and Pyramid, gaming genius Bob Stewart (who passed away this year at age 91) was a critical part of Password's inception. It's a parlor activity of hints and responses, but somehow the suspense of coming up with just the right clue is telegenic enough to endure decades of relevance.
Let's take a look back at multiple versions of this fine show and mutter in our best monotone narration, "The password is... fabulous."
Forget George Burns and Gracie Allen: I prefer the team of Allen Ludden and Betty White!

What’s the ideal? Who exactly are Price is Right viewers looking for here? Would 70-year-old grandmoms prefer a young stud in his early 20s fondling their consumer products, or are we talking more, like, orange whisperer Ty Burrell? Is it Alex Pettyfer or Phillip Baker Hall? Is it Channing Tatum or William Shatner?
Who am I kidding? I know, I know. It’s Jon Hamm.

He died of respiratory failure in Los Angeles on Friday, according to the New York Times.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Stewart served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II before taking up a career in broadcasting.

Working at first for Mark Goodson and then for his own Bob Stewart Productions, Stewart created such popular game shows as The Price Is Right, To Tell The Truth and the various Pyramid games. The New $25,000 Pyramid earned Stewart nine Daytime Emmys for best game show. It was hosted by Dick Clark, who died April 18. Other titles Stewart produced include Password, Three On A Match, You’re Putting Me On and Jackpot. One quality of Stewart-created shows was their mix of celebrities and regular folk. Betty White was a frequent guest on his shows and, according to the Television Academy, often joined Stewart in playing poker. In 2009, he was inducted into the Academy’s Hall of Fame.

9.00am: It's a big day for Europe. Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy are meeting to thrash out details of a plan that could set up a fiscal union in Europe and may (or may not) lead to some sort of resolution of the debt crisis. But this blog - like the UK - is sitting on the sidelines. My colleague Alex Hawkes will be covering the Merkozy meeting on the business live blog. And I'll be covering events at Westminster, where the most lively before 4pm will be Leveson - The Sequel, a star-studded committee hearing featuring Hugh Grant, Steve Coogan and Max Mosley who may well spend an hour telling MPs and peers exactly what they told Leveson.
Here's the diary for the day.

Three years ago, Bart Young was launching his then-7-year-old daughter Della's acting career, when he had a nauseating experience. "As part of her marketing package, we registered a domain name and had a website built to post her headshots, demo reel, and modeling photos," he said. "After a few months of reviewing the traffic stats from her site, I noticed thousands of hits from various overseas domains. I researched those domains and eventually landed on a few of the websites that had lifted my daughter's photos. I got a sick feeling in my stomach as I realized that some of the sites were very close to child pornography. I immediately took my daughter's website down and disabled her domain. We continued to keep her Web presence active on legitimate talent sites such as BackStage.com. Today her domain name, DellaYoung.com, forwards to her IMDb page, and at some...

• Reviewing the PGA nominations, Dave Karger wonders, "What if 'Avatar,' 'District 9' and 'Star Trek' all repeat and score Oscar nominations for Best Picture? Could 'Avatar,' which is widely considered to be the frontrunner at this point, actually be hurt by all the sci-fi love? It certainly seems logical that James Cameron’s opus would lose more votes to 'District' and 'Trek' than it would to, say, smaller indies like 'A Serious Man' or 'The Messenger.' In such a tight race as this year’s, something like that could make all the difference." Entertainment Weekly

Late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry is to be inducted into the U.S. Television Academy's Hall of Fame to mark his work on the sci-fi franchise.
The producer, who died in 1991, was responsible for seven series of the cult show, beginning in 1966. He also took the reins on 10 big-screen versions of the sci-fi classic.
Roddenberry will be posthumously added to the Hall of Fame at a ceremony on 20 January at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
Other stars to be inducted include Saturday Night Live's Don Pardo, U.S. comedy brothers Tom and Dick Smothers, as well as actress Candice Bergen, who starred in Murphy Brown in the 1990s.
Director Charles Lisanby and The Price Is Right creator Bob Stewart will also join the list.

To be honest, I just assumed this was something that had already happened. For someone who created such an enduring TV and film legacy and such a phenomenon, I thought Gene Roddenberry was already in the TV Academy Hall of Fame. Apparently, I was wrong because at a special ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel next year, the “Great Bird of the Galaxy” himself will join the ranks of Academy Hall of Fame inductees.
Other inductees to be honored at the ceremony include Candice Bergen, production and art director Charles Lisanby, announcer Don Pardo, Tom and Dick Smothers and game show producer Bob Stewart. Seriously, and I apologize in advance for the rant I’m about to go on, the guy who created Star Trek and Don Pardo are getting the Hall of Fame treatment at the same time? Come on TV Academy, what the heck are you thinking?
