Dark Horse Comics, in collaboration with the Stoller Family Estates Winery in Portland, Oregon, presents the 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir, set to hit our palettes and adorn our homes this Halloween, with pre-orders available right now.
Press Release: Milwaukie, Ore., (October 3, 2016) -- Dark Horse Comics and Portland, Oregon’s Stoller Family Estates Winery have collaborated to create the 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir, which will be available on Halloween and is available for pre-order now.
“I can’t imagine a more fitting drink to both celebrate Mike Mignola‘s creative legacy and honor his most famous creation,” said Mike Richardson, President of Dark Horse Comics. “And it’s only fitting that the first time that fans can raise a glass of Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir will be on Halloween.”
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Dark Horse Comics on the special Hellboy wine,“ said Gary Mortensen, President of Stoller Family Estate.

Batwoman is a character loved by almost every DC geek on the planet. The newest incarnation of Batwoman is known as Kate Cane. She's tough, she's smart, she's witty, and she can throw a right hook that'll knock your socks off. Kane first appeared in 52 #7, during the spring of 2006. Around that time DC also announced her sexual orientation, and for those of you who don't know, Ms. Kane is a lesbian.
Batwoman's creators, Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III, announced that they would end their run on Batwoman once they finish issue #26, and released this joint statement Wednesday, September 4th on their individual blogs:
"Dear Batwoman readers - From the moment DC asked us to write Batwoman — a dream project for both of us — we were committed to the unofficial tagline “No Status Quo.” We felt that the series and characters should always be moving forward, to keep changing and evolving.

In honor of the release of Christopher Golden's Joe Golem and the Drowning City in limited edition hardcover on October 3 and Baltimore: The Play, his collaboration with Mike Mignola, on November 21, Dark Horse editor Scott Allie interviewed the award-winning author for us.
Topics covered in the interview include Golden's interpretation of the term "dark fantasy," his upcoming project with True Blood author Charlaine Harris, vampires in our current culture, his influences, the scariest thing he's written, and Lots more. Check it out below, and look for more guest blogs from Scott Allie over the coming weeks.
Scott Allie: Can you explain “dark fantasy” to me?
Christopher Golden: The easy approach would be to say it's a merger of horror and fantasy, but that's not always true. For me, dark fantasy is fantasy in which nasty things happen. For people who've read my original novels, dark fantasy would be easy to recognize.

Scott Allie is a busy man. Aside from his usual responsibilities as the senior managing editor at Dark Horse Comics, he's taken on new writing endeavors, and this weekend he finds himself as a guest of honor at the World Horror Convention (March 30-April 1) in Salt Lake City.
Allie has been named Editor Guest of Honor for the 2012 World Horror Convention. He joins his partner in crime, Mike Mignola, who will also be in attendance. Mignola is Artist Guest of Honor for 2012 (Sherrilyn Kenyon is Author Guest of Honor this year). This event also features the Horror Writers Association Bram Stoker Award ceremony, for which Dark Horse Comics has been nominated in multiple categories.
Allie has recently returned to the writer's chair, creating stories for new issues of B.P.R.D. and Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the first issue of B.P.R.D. releasing this week (March...

I hate writing Top 10s about things, it’s like having to choose your favourite child, they’re all your favourites… except the ginger one (which we’ll cover more in Top 10 Dropped Comics of 2010). I’m choosing from the graphic novels and trades released in 2010, that I’ve purchased so far, so I won’t be waxing lyrical about books I’ve not personally read. On with the show…
1: Richard Stark’s Parker: Book 2 – The Outfit | Idw | W&A: Darwyn Cooke
I’ve always liked noir tales, the sort of story where the “”hero” is a bit of a bastard, and by the close of the final act no one has what they really want, and no one ends up particularly happy with the outcome… except the audience. Stark’s Parker novels are just that sort of story, and Cooke has again proven himself the perfect man to adapt them.

Solomon Kane (Dark Horse Books, tpb, $15.95)
For those who didn’t get the memo (or read Jeff Renaud’s chronicle of the fantasy hero in Starlog #370), Solomon Kane is the Second greatest character devised by Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard. A dour Puritan adventurer, Kane wanders Europe, Africa and elsewhere battling eerie menaces, grimly slaying any kind of evil, both monster and men. It’s not just his job; it’s his mission in life.
If Kane seems a little familiar, it’s because two later heroes Xeroxed his look (perhaps inadvertently or independently). Both Vampire Hunter D (the anime monster killer) and Van Helsing (the 2004 movie hero played by Hugh Jackman) must have used the same tailor. Of course, since Kane’s exploits were published in Weird Tales from 1928 and into the 1930s, he’s the original, not one of the clones.

This week I want to talk about an artist who blows my mind on a monthly basis — Jo Chen, the cover artist on the bestselling, award-winning Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight.
I know Buffy’s not a straight-up horror book — it deals with elements from the genre, but the emotional vibe is different, more optimistic and easily redemptive. Buffy’s a prime example of how the material in this genre has leaked into the mainstream. Here’s another: last night they were playing the old Martin Sheen movie, The Believers, on a weird local station called This — “This,” that’s the name of the station. (It sends me into an Abbott and Costello routine.) But This shows cool old movies and TV shows—I can’t imagine what their program manifesto is, unless it’s off-the-beaten-path-stuff-Scott-might-find-interesting.

10.) Pigeons From Hell
Dark Horse Publishing http://www.darkhorse.com/
Writer Joe R. Lansdale takes on the classic Robert E. Howard tale with great passion and delivers a frightening story through the use of artist Nathan Fox and his unconventional, yet stunning artwork. Most of the book takes place at night, and colorist Dave Stewart enhances that environment by using colors you would only see with limited lighting by the moon making this the perfect book to read at night. If the visuals alone don’t captivate your attention, the back-story on the monster will as it undoubtedly influenced many well-known horror staples like Pumpkinhead and Children Of The Corn. The marriage between story and vision is superb in Pigeons From Hell,...
