Fauda, the breakout Israeli thriller drama, is unexpectedly returning for a fifth season, Deadline has confirmed with sources.
Yes, the Israeli network behind the show, reportedly unveiled plans for a new season of the show at an event earlier this week. Ilan Sigal, CEO of Yes, appeared on stage with co-creator Avi Issacharoff to confirm the news, according to several Israeli media outlets.
Fauda, which means ‘chaos’ in Arabic, became a huge international hit for Netflix after the streamer licensed the first four seasons of the show. It follows Doron, a commander in Israel’s Mista’arvim counter-intelligence unit, and regularly touches on the Israel-Palestine conflict.
It garnered significant viewing in countries such as Lebanon and cut through in Europe, Asia and the U.S. There have been several remakes, including in India where SonyLIV ordered Tanaav, a Hindi remake.
Season four launched last year and was expected to be the final run.

Executives at Paramount-owned, Tel Aviv-based Ananey Studios were stunned when they realized that they couldn’t find a single transgender actor to audition for “The Malevolent Bride,” a series they produced with A+E Studios.
Within a year, this sudden awareness pushed Ananey’s creative director Elad Sonego (pictured) and Paramount to set up Israel’s first transgender acting school in partnership with Nissan Nativ Acting Studio and Jason Danino Holt, a director and playwright.
Since launching in 2022, the school has graduated six actors. “The Malevolent Bride” which was ordered by Kan 11, is set in present-day Jerusalem. It unfolds in a Hasidic community that’s haunted by vengeful spirit and examines the complexities of traditional gender roles in orthodox communities.

About the Series
“A Good Script” is the primary strength of “Sleeping Dog” built on well-constructed, real, and charismatic characters in a story that knows precisely what fascinating history to tell and how to make everything surrounding the main axis interesting.
Technically, it does not strive for aesthetics or the treatment of shots. There is a lot of handheld camera work, many sequences that want to be real and natural,...

HBO recently landed a surprise smash in “Chernobyl,” which that used recent history to deliver a potent, tart message. The Israeli project “Our Boys,” another limited series from the cabler which premiered Monday night, is less immediately accessible, but has similar goals: To dig into a story in recent memory and to find within it both drama and a thesis statement.
This story centers on the 2014 disappearance of Mohammed, a young Palestinian (Ram Masarweh), who goes missing shortly after three Israeli Jewish boys are kidnapped and killed. The case smacks of vengeance and comes to be revealed as a story not just of kidnapping or murder but of horrific abuse. It brings the prejudices of all parties it touches into the light, too, as when an Israeli cop declares, “I know Israeli racism, but Jews don’t do something like this.” It seems impossible to the nation’s ruling class...

When there’s two rival Beauty and the Beast projects, you gotta think a trend is forming. Following the success of ABC’s top-rated new drama Once Upon a Time (and to a lesser extent, NBC’s Grimm), broadcast-network pilot season seems to have a greater than usual number of projects with fantasy or supernatural elements — along with a ton of shows about federal agents, everyday cops, doctors, conspiracies, and cults. The magical-realism trend is partly a continuation from last year’s pilot season. This time around, however, there seems to be fewer head-turning TV reboots ideas in the mix...

Exclusive: Israeli formats continue to be a hot commodity. In a competitive situation, NBC has landed the rights to Israeli mystery drama Timrot Ashan, aka Pillars of Smoke, for Peter Traugott’s recently launched Ums-based production company to produce. Search is already underway for a writer to adapt the series created by Noah Stollman and Oded Davidoff, which is often referred to as Israel’s Lost. Described as Twin Peaks meets Northern Exposure meets Lost, the original Pillars of Smoke is an offbeat mystery series set in Israel’s remote, rural Golan Heights. When the members of a remote cult disappear leaving no traces behind, a police investigation slowly uncovers the darkest secrets of the region and its inhabitants, as well as a grander political conspiracy and environmental disaster from which the cult members are attempting to escape. Traugott will executive produce the NBC version with his development executive Rachel Kaplan.

There are remarkable times when a single event causes a fundamental change in a person’s life and self-awareness. Israeli director Eran Riklis’ “The Human Resources Manager,” adapted from A.B. Yehoshua’s novel “A Woman in Jerusalem,” tells one such story but overreaches and is unable to deliver on its promises.
Riklis’ previous films “The Syrian Bride” and “Lemon Tree” earned him a reputation for compelling stories inspired by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Riklis departs from this theme in his latest project, and the majority of the story, in fact, takes place outside of Israel. What he maintains is a propensity for tales about everyday people thrust into extraordinary situations. His characters take life into their own hands and discover themselves as a result.

Jehoshua (novel) Starring: Mark Ivanir, Guri Alfi, Noah Silver, Rozina Cambos, Julian Negulesco The Human Resources Manager (Mark Ivanir) is a man with very little authority -- certainly less than his role warrants at a prominent bakery in Jerusalem. When a young Romanian immigrant woman is killed in a suicide bombing, a paycheck from the bakery is discovered on her body by the police. When the police approach the bakery for more details about the victim -- and inquire about why the bakery did not report the employee missing when she stopped showing up at work -- the Hr Manager is unable to answer their questions. Something tells me Eran Riklis would take it as a compliment to call his a career full of minor works. While many Israeli filmmakers have concentrated on making the big statement about their fractured cultural landscape of their homeland, Riklis has focused on making the small one in recent years, whether it's the legal battle over a lemon grove between a Palestinian woman and the Israeli defense minister in his last drama "Lemon Tree" or the uneasy union of Syrian and Israeli families in his 2004 breakthrough "The Syrian Bride."
As Riklis said in his introduction to the AFI Fest crowd over the weekend, his latest film, "The Human Resources Manager" is "similar, but different" - a nod to the fact that while the titular character travels thousands of miles from Jerusalem to an unnamed Eastern European country to return the corpse of one of his...

This wasn't just a surprising ceremony. It was total humiliation. Intimate Grammar, Nir Bergman's moving story of a boy who mysteriously stops growing, was the favorite to win. Nominated for 12 awards, it was so highly favored to win that the printers were just waiting to complete the one sheet tagline, "Winner of Xx Ophir Awards." With a release date set exactly one day after the ceremony, this beautiful film didn't win a single award. Not even one. There's something fishy about why this went home empty-handed, since Bergman is very much appreciated in the industry, being involved in high profile projects in cinema (Broken Wings), and in television (In Treatment). However, the winner of this year's Ophir ceremony is the lovely crowd-pleaser The Mission of the Human Resources Manager, by director Eran Riklis. The story of a human resources manager in a bakery in Jerusalem, who sets out on...

Adam Resurrected is an out-and-out mediocrity, a strange thing to say about a film concerning a WWII-era Jewish clown (Jeff Goldblum) forced to be the dog of a Nazi commandant (Willem Dafoe - no, really?!!). As Adam Stein, Goldblum slathers an exaggerated German-Jewish accent over his already inimitable cadence, an unfortunately distracting effect made all the more pronounced by his inability to maintain the inflection throughout. It could be argued, by way of justification, that Stein is always playing a role, even his own heritage, but the distinct “work-for-hire” vibe brought to the project by Paul Schrader (directing Noah Stollman’s screenplay adaptation of Yoram Kaniuk’s novel) pretty much counteracts any such intentionality of performance.
