Ryan Lewis’s stately Seattle mansion, complete with gilded ceilings and massive reclaimed chandeliers, could probably sell itself for the $7.5 million asking price. But just in case, the music producer (aka the guy that isn’t Macklemore in all those Macklemore videos) had another idea: stage a break-in and film the whole thing.

Ok, not really. For the Idoloonie Nation, we haven’t even gotten to the thrilling parts of American Idol‘s farewell season — the live shows, where the red plastic husk of the jokesters and the delusional are tossed aside, and we get to binge on the delicious goudas and bries and provolones who comprise the Top 12. (Ok, sorry… that cheese metaphor went on a little too long, but it’s the inevitable result of snacking primarily on celery and carrots for the last two weeks.)

The following equation recently appeared on a standardized math test for third graders, thanks to the Common Core State Standards Initiative:
American Idol selected 48 Season 14 contestants to perform at a showcase at Los Angeles’ House of Blues — with the goal of having its three judges (and a team of no fewer than 37 producers) whittle the field down to 24 vocalists who’ll compete for the public vote. If the final roster of contestants must be split evenly by gender — and 12 hopefuls were shown advancing on Wednesday night’s telecast, then who’s likeliest to advance in the night’s final battle:...

If the Internet's worst fears come true, Iggy Azalea will be called to the Grammy stage today to accept the award for Best Rap Album, after which the ground will open and Satan's armies will come charging out to fight the Battle of Armageddon. (Update: Disaster averted!) We canvassed the pre-Grammy parties this weekend and asked people like CeeLo Green, Beck, Charli Xcx, Estelle, Ashanti, Allen Stone, Ciara, Recording Academy president Neil Portnow, Sony/Atv CEO Martin Bandier, Rosie O'Donnell, Paul Williams, Jess Glynne, Jordin Sparks, and Kenny G for their thoughts on the matter.Kenny G (at Clive Davis's pre-Grammy party) What do you think about the controversy over Iggy Azalea being nominated for Best Rap Album?I don’t know her. American Idol presented the top 13 singers on Wednesday with the theme of “This is Me.” Although the performances in front of the live audience still proved a little rough, a few of the Idol hopefuls looked poised to make it into the Top 10.
First up on Wednesday was country crooner Dexter Roberts, who picked Chris Young’s “Aw Naw” to sing. Though Roberts gave a confident, solid performance, the judges wanted more from him. If he wants to last in the competition, he’s going to have to put his own spin on the songs he chooses and loosen up a bit on stage.
Energetic teen Malaya Watson followed Roberts with “Run Away Baby” by Bruno Mars. There’s no doubt that Watson is at ease in front of a crowd, but her vocal control needs some work. Basically, the judges want her to focus on her intonation as much...

The exciting shows are finally here, "American Idol" fans. It's the Top 13 finalists, with a theme of "This Is Me." Could you vague that up for us, "Idol"? That is akin to my all-time favorite theme, the Season 6 episode that was like "Songs Gwen Stefani Has Heard Of (Maybe)."
Just as an Fyi, we're not going to recap all the video package shenanigans. Let's get down to business with the performances.
1. Dexter Roberts, "Aw Naw," Chris Young
Terrible song choice. This is a song trying to so hard to be a dirt-kickin' country rock number, but Dexter does not have the swagger to pull that off yet. He's just standing there. His voice isn't bad, but there are a few bum notes and the entire performance lacks energy. He'll stick around, I'm fairly sure, but he's going to have to step that up.
If this is what defines who he is,...

Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is one of the biggest live music events in the country, growing so large that in recent years the festival has expanded to two weekends of genre-crossing musical innovation and constant surprises. While Paste was out in California for the festival, we were able to catch some relaxing sessions by the pool with some of our favorite festival artists. We had the privilege of meeting up with Allen Stone, the soulful singer-songwriter who last graced us with a few songs at Hangout 2012. Accompanied by a guitarist and keeping time with soft hand claps,...

Despite oft-overlapping acts, massive music festivals have a tendency to always reflect their surroundings. No matter if Coachella is being headlined by a holographic Tupac or a bill brimming with early-90s Britpop nostalgia, the festival is always going to to feel like an outgrowth of Los Angeles--and be very different from Chicago's Lollapalooza.

Nashville, Tenn. — Macklemore isn't afraid to tell you he was scared when he saw some of the destinations for his upcoming tour.
Idaho. Montana. Texas.
None of those places in the Heartland seemed like they'd be receptive to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' left-leaning, socially conscious message. A hostile reception seemed more likely – especially for the lightning-rod song "Same Love," which offers support for the gay community.
To the 29-year-old rapper's surprise, he found the crowds singing the chorus right back at him.
"Those were three places where people probably sang the loudest and it gives me some hope in the power of music and what music can do," said the Mc, whose given name is Ben Haggerty. "To hear people's testimonials about `Same Love' changing the way that they feel about gay people or the language that they use in their everyday life, making them consider changing that language, or...

As far as celeb attendance goes, the DNC tends to be where it’s at — Hollywood does have a reputation to live up to, after all. But 2012 is not 2008 and while the Dems have certainly attracted a few ounces of star power to the convention, it’s not going to be the first-class lounge/Oscar backstage feeling it was four years ago, when the Cold War Kids opened a Shepard Fairey art exhibit and Google co-hosted a party with Vanity Fair. While the Rnc had Clint Eastwood and his now even-more-famous sidekick — the chair — the DNC boasts parties with Will.
