- Retired from broadcasting after the 2000 Baseball season due to health reasons. However, Stone returned to his old spot in the WGN-TV broadcasting booth in 2003, replacing Joe Carter and reteaming with Chip Caray.
- Several years after retiring from major-league baseball, Steve Stone appeared at age 37 in a photospread in the August 1985 issue of Playgirl magazine. The spread's text mentioned Stone's "hirsute chest, powerful shoulders, and enticing tush," and there were the usual "beefcake" shots in which Stone posed in a swimsuit and with a towel draped around his waist. There were only two nude shots but in both of these Stone kept his right leg positioned in such a way as to block any view of his pubic hair and genitals.

- Pitcher with the San Francisco Giants (1971-1972), Chicago White Sox (1973 & 1977-1978), Chicago Cubs (1974-1976), and Baltimore Orioles (1979-1981).
- Made major league debut on 8 April 1971.
- In 1980, won the Americal League Cy Young Award; led the league in wins (25) and winning percentage (.781); named Pitcher of the Year by "The Sporting News".
- Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
