Alcon Entertainment has acquired film rights to “Postscript,” the follow-up novel from Cecelia Ahern. Alcon will co-finance and co-produce the movie with Black Label Media.
Alcon produced the 2007 movie based on Ahern’s book “P.S. I Love You,” which starred Hilary Swank as the widow Holly Kennedy. The film earned $156 million at the worldwide box office. “Postscript” picks up Holly’s story seven years after her husband’s death, when Holly’s sister asks her to tell the story of the “P.S. Santa Monica-based Myriad Pictures has added boxing crime thriller Glass Chin to its Afm roster for all worldwide sales outside the U.S. House of Cards‘ Corey Stoll stars in the neo-noir Tribeca Film Festival entry as an ex-pugilist desperate to get back in the game who starts training a young fighter and gets involved in crooked dealings with a local restaurateur (Billy Crudup). Yul Vazquez (Kill the Messenger, Captain Phillips), Marin Ireland (I Am Legend, Hope Springs), and Kelly Lynch (The Jacket, Charlie’s Angels) also star. Noah Buschel (The Missing Person) wrote and directed the film which is produced by Louise Runge and Samantha Housman of Onezero Films, Susan Stover, and Sara Woodhatch. Lois J. Ifp announced its 2014 slate of 133 new films in development and works in progress selected for its esteemed Project Forum at Independent Film Week. This one-of-a-kind event brings the international film and media community to New York City to advance new projects by nurturing the work of both emerging and established independent artists and filmmakers. Through the Project Forum, creatives connect with financiers, executives, influencers and decision-makers in film, television, new media and cross-platform storytelling that can help them complete their latest works and connect with audiences. Under the curatorial leadership of Deputy Director/Head of Programming Amy Dotson & Senior Director of Programming Milton Tabbot, this one-of-a-kind event takes place September 14-18, 2014 at Lincoln Center supporting bold new content from a wide variety of domestic and international artists.

In a joint effort to recognize the importance of career and creative sustainability, Ifp and Durga Entertainment have partnered on a new $20,000 filmmaker grant for an alumnus of Ifp. The grant is intended for active, working filmmakers who are also balancing a filmmaking career with parenting. The grant provides a $20,000 unrestricted prize to encourage the recipient to continue on her or his career path of making quality independent films. American directors or screenwriters working in narrative film who have participated in the Ifp Filmmaker Labs or Ifp Independent Film Week's Emerging Storytellers or No-Borders International Co-Production market are encouraged to apply by the deadline of August 8, 2014.

On the heels of the 39th edition of the Toronto Int. The Hamptons International Film Festival has announced its selections for the 13th annual Screenwriters' Lab. The five winning screenwriters (for a total of four screenplays) are Christina Choe, for "Nancy"; Michael Sladek, for "Phantom Limbs"; Ben Nabors and Michael Tyburski, for "Palimpsest," and Evan Schwartz, for "Televisionaries." The recently concluded Ifp Narrative Lab was a dense week of study and mentorship as our participating filmmakers, all with films somewhere between rough and fine cut, were given guidance about picture lock, sound design, scoring and music licensing, festival strategy, distribution deals, and Diy, self and hybrid distribution efforts. Amy Dotson and Rose Vincelli from the Ifp did a fantastic job of putting the program together. Susan Stover, Jon Reiss and I were the lab leaders. In addition, an inspiring group of editors, filmmakers, producers and industry vets came in to lend their expertise. "The Hurt Locker" won big at the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards at a ceremony held at New York City.s Cipriani Wall Street. The film beat "Amreeka," "Big Fan," "The Maid," and "A Serious Man" for the Best Feature Trophy.
"The Hurt Locker" also won the Best Ensemble Performance Award beating "Adventureland," "Cold Souls," "A Serious Man," and "Sugar."

NEW YORK -- IFP has selected 11 narrative films for its 2008 Independent Filmmaker Lab, and announced an inaugural $50,000 Independent Filmmaker Finishing Grant for one of the projects.
The filmmakers will be mentored by such indie vets as Chris Eyre ("Smoke Signals"), Rob Hardy, Peter Phok and Susan Stover, then participate in the June 10-13 lab with producers Gretchen McGowan, Scott Macaulay and others.
They will receive advice on technical, creative, and postproduction issues, and one project will be given the $50,000 grant (from an Anonymous Donor) at the IFP's juried Independent Filmmaker Awards ceremony in September. Female lab participants are also eligible for the $10,000 Adrienne Shelly Director's Grant.
Spanish, Arabic, Tagalog, and Kashmiri-language films are included in this year's lineup. The eleven-film slate includes Ricky Shane Reid's "At the Foot of the Tree", Dia Sokol's "Sorry, Thanks" and David Lowery's "St. Nick". The Narrative Lab will be held at Soho House in Manhattan.
