The Water of Life, a documentary about Scotland’s whisky industry, has been picked up by PBS.
The public broadcaster will launch the feature doc, which is exec produced by The Magicians star Brittany Curran, in June.
The doc was shot in six countries on three continents over three years and tells the story of the creative revolution that saved Scotland’s once flagging whisky industry and turned it into the global titan it is today.
It features a half-dozen distillers and distilleries but focuses much of its time on the resurrection of the tiny Bruichladdich Distillery on the remote Scottish island of Islay. Led by Mark Reynier and whisky legend Jim McEwan, the distillery went from being a mothballed memory to a world-beating innovator in a matter of years, helping to save the struggling economy of the island often called Whisky Island.

Panorama Entertainment has obtained domestic theatrical distribution rights to Greg W. Swartz's Another Harvest Moon, starring veterans Ernest Borgnine (above) and Piper Laurie, in addition to Anne Meara, Doris Roberts, Richard Schiff, Cameron Monaghan, Amber Benson, Sunkrish Bala, and Cybill Shepherd. A February 2011 release in the southwest and southeast is in the works. Written by Jeremy T. Black, Another Harvest Moon chronicles the lives of four elderly people — Borgnine, Laurie, Meara, and Roberts — living at a nursing home. The film has received three nominations at next month's Orlando Film Festival: Best Lead Actor, Ernest Borgnine; Best Supporting Actress, Doris Roberts; and Best Ensemble Cast. Greg W. Swartz's "Another Harvest Moon," a drama about senior citizens starring Ernest Borgnine, Piper Laurie, Anne Meara, Doris Roberts, Richard Schiff and Cybill Shepherd, will open the 13th annual Hollywood Film Festival on Oct. 23 at the ArcLight Cinemas.
The three-day fest will feature 80 features, shorts and music videos, including Steve Morris' "The Assistants," about Hollywood assistants, Kim Tae-kyun's "Crossing," Adam Kane's "Formosa Betrayed," Jeff Stephenson's "Not Since You" and Vlad Yudin's "Last Day of Summer."
The fest also announced nominees for its Hollywood Movie Awards, which will be decided by public voting at the Yahoo! Movies Web site. They are "(500) Days of Summer," "District 9," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," "The Hangover," "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," "The Hurt Locker," "Inglourious Basterds," "Star Trek," "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Up."...
