Over the weekend, Breast Cancer Research Foundation held its annual Symposium & Awards Luncheon in a virtual format for the first time.
Nearly 1,100 attendees joined from around the world to hear directly from esteemed breast cancer experts about the latest strides in research that Bcrf is funding, and to honor some of the incredible people making that research possible. The inspiring afternoon raised a record-breaking $3 million to ensure that, even in the midst of global crisis, Bcrf’s international legion of leading scientists can continue their lifesaving work.

Some directors are born. Some have directing thrust upon them. And sometimes you become a director because there is no other alternative. Even after obsessing, developing and raising the dough for A Bird of the Air over 15 years, I had never thought of directing it. But when we suddenly lost our director and were in danger of losing a big chunk of the budget if we didn’t shoot by the end of the year, my producing partner Steven Tabakin and I did what any smart producers would do: We opened a bottle of wine. I’m not clear on exactly how it happened, but he convinced me to direct the film.

Coming your way in limited release on September 23rd, A Bird of the Air is a quirky, indie number that looks as charming as anything to come along in a while. Centered around a loner who finds a parrot, and embarks on a mission to return the bird to its rightful owner, it's a kind of quest film that spins out of control.
If the trailer is any real indication, my money is on this one coming together into a very solid effort, and one that I think many will find themselves watching again and again.
