This time, our director Od’d on weird. It isn’t like the movies.
With Opera, Dario Argento creates an inescapable waking nightmare of violence and voyeurism that could also be considered one of the Maestro’s most unapologetically philosophical and introspective entries in his entire filmography. Throughout Opera, Argento boldly toys with Giallo conventions in a variety of unique ways, often blurring the lines between reality and imagination, and examines the effects of trauma that haunt both Opera’s protagonist and antagonist alike.
Go back to horror films. Forget opera.
Even though Opera feels very much in line with Argento’s sense of style as a visual storyteller, there’s something incredibly singular about his approach to his cinematic clash of high art and Giallo-infused hysteria. While there is certainly a mystery that propels the film’s narrative, one involving an up-and-coming soprano named Betty (Cristina Marsillach), who finds...

Good god… Dario Argento is wildy over-rated isn’t he? Four Flies on Grey Velvet, Suspiria and now Opera, three so-called “classics” of Argento oeuvre released on to Blu-ray with great fan fare but all three of which have left me cold. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a couple of Argento movies – Deep Red and Phenomena (though I prefer the Creepers cut), however I can live without the rest. I much prefer the work of his proteges Lamberto Bava… and Michele Soavi in particular.
The plot of Opera goes something like this: When young understudy Betty takes the lead role in a new operatic production of Verdi’s Macbeth, she soon attracts the attention of a knife-wielding psycho who forces...

Artist, musician and Italian horror actress Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni takes a stab at Macbeth. Today is William Shakespeare’s birthday, he being perhaps the greatest and most influential writers and dramatists in human history. Indeed, we own much to the man. South Korea’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan), Asia’s largest genre film fest, has announced 21 titles from 12 countries to be presented during the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (Naff) genre film project market.
Dubbed It Project, the market has in past years showcased films such as Arvin Chen’s Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? and Lisa Takeba’s Haruko’s Paranormal Laboratory, which have screened at festivals including Tribeca, Berlin and Rotterdam.
Naff will run July 19-22 during BiFan, which will run July 16-26. Previously known as PiFan, the fest changed its name earlier this year in belated accordance with the current system of Romanizing Korean names. Thus it now uses ‘Bucheon’ instead of ‘Puchon’ to indicate the pronunciation of the name of the satellite city of Seoul that hosts this fest.
Aside from arranging business meetings, Naff will hand out post-production awards and a total of KW66m ($59,300) in cash prizes.

'Demons 2' (1986) Review
Directed By: Lamberto Bava
Written By: Dario Argento, Lamberto Bava, Franco Ferrini, Dardano Sacchetti
Starring: David Edwin Knight (George), Nancy Brilli (Hannah), Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni (Sally Day), Bobby Rhodes (Hank), Asia Argento (Ingrid Haller), Virginia Bryant (Mary the Prostitute), Anita Bartolucci (Woman with Dog), Antonio Cantafora (Ingrid’s Father), Luisa Passega (Helga), Davide Marotta (Demon Tommy), Marco Vivio (Tommy), Michele Mirabella (Hooker’s Client), Lorenzo Gioielli (Jake), Lino Salemme (Security Guard), Maria Chiara Sasso (Ulla)
If you feel Demons (1985) was a good movie, you will certainly be entertained by its sequel. “Demons 2” is just as over the top as the original with plenty of gore and thrills. Lamberto Bava does a good job carrying a similar plot over from the first film in a slightly different setting for this one. Argento and Bava make a good film duo...

Arrow Video, purveyors of all things cult movie, have finally – after months of teasing and trailing – released the classic Italian horror pairing of Demons and Demons 2 on Blu-ray in both the standard slipcase versions and a swanky steelbook double-bill. Whilst we were sent review discs to check out, I couldn’t help but buy the Blu-ray steelbook (I’m a little Ocd when it comes to steelbooks) – just check out the video:

Following up on a previous story pertaining to some recent shake-ups surrounding Italy's first 3D film, Hidden, we recently heard from vacating director Mariano Baino regarding both his and Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni's departure from the film.
"Both Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni and I would like to clarify a couple of things regarding our involvement with Hidden 3D," says Baino. "I co-wrote the original screenplay with the amazingly talented Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni. Most people know her as a wonderfully gifted actress and painter, but she is also a very talented writer. We came up with a truly unique concept and wanted to make a genuinely disturbing, multi-layered movie. Unfortunately the producers decided to go in a completely different direction, and we decided to leave the project. No hard feelings. Stuff happens. Lesson learned. It's always good to know that America isn't the only country that sometimes has trouble getting its shit together. Italy's first ever 3D feature film, Hidden 3D, has undergone a bit of a shake-up cast and crew wise, and we're here to keep you up to date as always.
According to Bloody Disgusting:
"Antoine Thomas stepped into the director's chair, replacing Mariano Baino (who wrote the screenplay, yet for some reason isn't being credited). Sean Clement ("Fringe"), Simonetta Solder, Jordan Hayes (House at the End of the Street), Jason Blicker, Bjanka Murgel have all been cast in the film now in post-production. The English-language horror/thriller is about an abandoned experimental medical center that harbors a deadly secret. It only becomes known when a restoration project begins. Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni (pictured below), who you might remember from Demons 2, Terror at the Opera and Dario Argento's The Phantom of the Opera,...

Looks as if the 3D craze is official in Italy. First we brought you the news about Italy's Turn of the Screw 3D (story here), and now word of Hidden 3D has come to light. Interestingly enough, they're both claiming to be the country's first three-dimensional film.
According to Screen Daily production is due to start soon on Hidden, an Italy-Canada co-production that will be filmed in English.
"The horror/thriller is about an abandoned experimental medical centre that harbours a deadly secret. It only becomes known when a restoration project begins."
Bloody Disgusting nailed down some casting news back in November, stating that Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni (pictured below; Demons 2, Terror at the Opera, Dario Argento's The Phantom of the Opera) will be writing and starring in the film for director Mariano Baino. She will play the role of Haley.

First revealed exclusively here on Bd back in November, production is due to officially start on Hidden 3D, the first Italian-made 3D feature, with principal photography getting underway in Canada later this month. The English-language horror/thriller is about an abandoned experimental medical center that harbors a deadly secret. It only becomes known when a restoration project begins. While this has yet to be reported, we're told Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni, who you might remember from Demons 2, Terror at the Opera and Dario Argento's The Phantom of the Opera, has been co-writing a new horror film with Mariano Baino (Dark Waters). Baino will also be getting behind the camera for Hidden 3D, which was developed as starring vehicle for Cataldi-Tassoni. She will play the role of Haley.

Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni, a familiar face from Dario Argento films including Opera, The Phantom Of The Opera and this year’s Mother Of Tears, recently launched a website to promote her upcoming biography, which she first discussed with us here. The site includes a trailer (created by Cataldi-Tassoni and Dark Waters’ Mariano Baino) which you can also check out at the bottom of this page.
The site, which you can see here, allows fans a chance to contribute to the book, titled Coralina: Based On A True Life, which is being written as a mix of reality and fantasy by Italian journalist Filippo Brunamonti. Via “The Contessa Contest,” fans can ask Coralina a question, with “the most extraordinary one” and the actress’ answer featured within the tome’s pages. The winner also receives a unique signed art print and other autographed goodies.

If you live in or around the Cleveland, Ohio, area, this is the weekend you've been waiting for as the Cinema Wasteland Movie and Memorabilia Expo Fall Show goes down October 3rd, 4th, and 5th in Strongsville.
The guest list includes Lamberto Bava, Brett Halsey, John Saxon, Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni, Kane Hodder, Betsy Palmer, and our own beloved world-famous horror author Joe Knetter. Among this year's offerings are Black Sunday, The Brain that Wouldn't Die, Kingdom of the Spiders, Demons 2, Tenebrae, Blitzkrieg: Escape From Stalag 69, and many others. Friday night is all about short films, and DC regular Patrick Rea's "Cafe at the Crossroads", "Torture Porn", and "Shed out of...

**Update: A ton of pics have just been added to the WoH gallery, so be sure to check it out!**
So Ryan (plagiarize), his wife Katy and I missed most of the first day of the show, having to do things like “work” and “travel” and stuff, but that in no way dampened our return to the Weekend of Horrors in Secaucus, Nj. Man, am I glad I made it, too; during the show they announced that the Weekend of Horrors is returning to Manhattan, the Javits Center no less, for their next show, so this could feasibly be the last chance we had to get down and dirty in Jersey!
You know things are off to a good start when the first face you see is Ted Geoghegan’s. The name might not mean much to you, but Ted and I go way back to when we both ran...
