Exclusive: Sharon Taylor (Fire Country) has joined the cast of the Amazon Original series Cross, which stars Aldis Hodge in the role of Alex Cross.
Taylor will portray Lt. Oracene Massey and replaces the originally cast Karen LeBlanc, who exited due to scheduling conflicts, Deadline hears.
Lt. Massey is Alex’s immediate superior at the Metro Pd. She is a tireless self-promoter who understands that advancement doesn’t always have anything to do with catching the bad guys, but with pleasing those higher up. In the series, she is pregnant.
From Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television, Cross is described as a complex and twisted thriller created by producer and writer Ben Watkins and based on the best-selling Alex Cross book series by James Patterson.
Alex is a detective and forensic psychologist, uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, in order to identify — and ultimately capture — the murderers.

"I have faith in you, you just need to have faith in yourself." Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a charming feel good dog movie titled Rescued by Ruby, about a fluffy shelter dog finding its connection with a frigidity state trooper. How adorable. It's actually based on a true story! Made for Netflix, this seems like the kind of stuff that Disney used to drop straight-to-vhs. Chasing his dream to join an elite K-9 unit, a state trooper named Dan partners with a fellow underdog: clever but naughty shelter pup Ruby. As you can see in the trailer, she seems to be a Border Collie - not the usual German Shepherd or Doberman K9 dogs, but that's all good! She seems awesome enough anyway. This stars Grant Gustin, Scott Wolf, Kaylah Zander, Camille Sullivan, Tom McBeath, and Sharon Taylor. Who doesn't like a dog movie?! At least...

The thing that appealed to director Jon M. Chu about “Home Before Dark,” the new series from Apple TV Plus, is that it’s a family show about the importance of truth and journalism.
“We teach kids to tell the truth, and yet we lie to them,” says Chu of the show, based on the true story of 9-year-old Hilde Lysiak, who sought to uncover the facts behind a murder in her hometown. “I thought this little girl’s relationship with her father [Matt, played by Jim Sturgess] is interesting. He was a journalist at one point, and he taught her everything she knows.” However, Chu marries fact with fiction to tell the narrative. As played by Brooklynn Prince (“The Florida Project”), Hilde isn’t just investigating a murder but digging into a long-ago kidnapping that has haunted her father since he witnessed it as a child.

Some of our greatest detectives have been children, from Encyclopedia Brown to Nancy Drew. Okay, those ones are fictional but they no doubt set the stage for Dana Fox and Dara Resnik’s new series, “Home Before Dark.” Based on the life of real child journalist Hilde Lysiak, the new series for Apple TV+ is equal parts biopic, old-school mystery, and classic children’s programming that will easily draw comparisons to the likes of “Ghostwriter” and “Eerie Indiana.”
“Florida Project” star Brooklynn Prince plays the series’ take on Hilde, changing her last name to Lisko for reasons that don’t feel clear. Her father, Matt (Jim Sturgess) is a former investigative journalist in New York who, after losing his job, uproots the family from Brooklyn and moves them to his hometown of Erie Harbor. New South Wales, the Australian state that includes Sydney, is to introduce a post-production, digital and visual effects (Pfv) incentive.
The new subsidy, worth 10% of spending on post-production, digital and visual effects, can be used by film and TV productions in addition to the existing 30% federal rebate scheme. To qualify, a production must spend $349,000 in the state.
The majority of Australia’s post-production facilities companies, including Animal Logic, Cutting Edge, Fin Design and Plastic Wax, are located in the Sydney area. The Nsw government says the state is home to 60% of the country’s screen practitioners.
The state government said that the funding decision makes Nsw competitive with international locations in the U.S., U.K. and Canada. The move also allows Nsw to catch up with other Australian states. The move follows similar decisions in 2017 by South Australia, and last year by Queensland.

Create Nsw will now offer a 10 per cent tax incentive for post, digital and visual effects (Pdv) that can be combined with the 30 per cent federal Pdv offset, bringing the state’s offering in line with South Australia and Queensland.
The introduction of the incentive, which will require a minimum spend of $500,000 on Pdv in Nsw, has secured the state post-production on the upcoming Untitled Baz Luhrmann Elvis Project, with the government anticipating a $35 million boost to the economy as a result.
The South Australia Film Corporation (Safc) launched an uncapped, non-discretionary 10 per cent Pdv rebate in December 2017. Just two months after the rebate was unveiled, Technicolor announced it was to open a $26 million VFX studio, Mill Film, in Adelaide, and the Adelaide-based Rising Sun Pictures has looked to expand its staff numbers.

If you’re at all in touch with your geek side, you already know about all the great horror movies that are Christmas-themed. Chances are you’ve stumbled across Silent Night, Deadly Night, Black Christmas, or Santa’s Slay. Everybody knows Batman Returns and Die Hard take place around December 25th. However, did you know that several disasters have occurred around the most wonderful time of the year?
Anchor Bay Entertainment and the SyFy Channel spent the past few years reminding us that even the holidays aren’t safe from catastrophic events which could bring about the end of the world. Disaster-oriented Christmas movies were becoming an annual tradition up until 2013. The two media giants banned together for three straight years to bring us a trilogy of B-movie entertainment that I think it’s high time they continue.

It looks like Superman will have another bad guy girl to worry about in the Zack Snyder reboot, Man of Steel. Deadline reports that Antje Traue (pronounced “Ahnt-shay Trow-way”) is in the lead to win one of the villain spots beside General Zod who is played by Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire). Traue has not done much work in the States but she was one of the highlights in the sci-fi horror thriller Pandorum.
If the German beauty does nab the part, the speculation can soon begins as to who Traue will play. Based on all of the common ground this film appears to be treading with the early Christopher Reeve films odds are the part will be Ursa who was portrayed by Sarah Douglas in Superman and Superman II. Been there… Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz… done that.
However if writer David S. Goyer and Snyder are looking for a Kryptonian-based villain from the comics,...

Antje Traue in Pandorum
Photo: Overture Films I have not yet gotten around to seeing Pandorum, but for those of you that have and remember the character Nadia, you are already more familiar with Antje Traue, the German-born actress that will play the villainous Faora in Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel. The character was last played by Sharon Taylor in seven episodes of the "Smallville" TV series as the wife of General Zod.
The news was just announced that Traue will play Faora in the feature alongside Michael Shannon who will be playing the film's lead villain, General Zod. Apparently there were more than one instance of the character in the Superman universe and since I know nothing of the comic I will make way for the following description of the character courtesy of Wikipedia: The first Faora, Faora Hu-Ul, was introduced in Action Comics #471. Riese: Kingdom Falling is a digital series distributed by Syfy.com, created by Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff. The first chapter of five episodes originally went online on the creators’ website and YouTube during the fall of 2009 under the name Riese: The Series; its success led to the creation of a second chapter and drew the attention of Syfy who bought the broadcast rights, recut, rearranged and renamed the existing episodes, added new footage and hired Stargate and Sanctuary actress Amanda Tapping as narrator. Syfy started airing the renamed Riese: Kingdom Falling from October 2010.
Riese: Kingdom Falling takes place in Eleysia, a dying kingdom where distrust and anxiety have clouded people’s minds, causing a regression into primitive ways of thinking. Rituals and mythology have resurged,...

If you can’t tell by now, I’m a huge fan of the steampunk sci-fi series Riese: Kingdom Falling which is currently showing on Syfy.co.uk and will air in movie form of the Syfy channel next month. If you haven’t seen it yet, the series follows Riese, a wanted princess of the Kingdom of Eleysia that has been overthrown by a powerful society called The Sect. The evil empress Amara has proclaimed Riese a traitor, who must evade her pursuers with nothing but her wits and the help of her wolf companion, Fenrir.
As a teaser for the shows forthcoming episodes, the folks at Syfy have sent us a clip from the series entitled “Herrick Arrives”, along with the synopses for episode 3-5. Check them out below:

Reise: Kingdom Falling is an award-winning Canadian steampunk web series making its screen debut on the SyFi Channel from March 29th. We’ve got a new trailer and some stills to show off. So if the whole “steam-punk” thing is your bag (it’s a very popular style at the moment) this might be worth checking out.
Looks pretty cool. The title reminds one of that Rammstein song “Reise, Reise”. Top track.
Synopsis:
Syfy.com premieres the steampunk digital series Riese: Kingdom Falling, winner of Streamy Awards for Best Cinematography and nominee for Best Sound Design and Art Direction. The series was created by Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff and produced by Galen Fletcher and Nicholas Humphries.

Following the lead of Syfy in the United States, Canada's Space Channel has obtained the rights to broadcast the Vancouver-shot web series Riese: Kingdom Falling.
Riese: Kingdom Falling is a fantasy-adventure that chronicles the life of a mysterious wanderer (the titular character, played by Christine Chatelain). Riese is on the run with her trusted wolf companion, Fenrir. They are fleeing their dying land of Eleysia in search of freedom and are hunted by assassins of a terrifying religious entity called The Sect. Riese is also trying to piece together her mysterious past.
Reise: Kingdom Falling is narrated by Amanda Tapping. Tapping is the star and an executive producer of the Space original series Sanctuary. That show is also shot in Vancouver and started out as a web series. After eight webisodes it made the leap to television thanks to support from, among others, The Movie Channel/Movie Central...

If you’ve been starving for an original steam punk adventure that’s easy on the eyes, look no further than the screen you’re reading this article. Created by Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff, Riese: Kingdom Falling is an original Syfy web series that’s worth an hour or two of your time. The kingdom of Eleysia is crumbling under the rule of Empress Amara (Sharon Taylor) who led a coup d’etat in murdering the royal family and appointed herself as ruler of the conquered world. Amara continues her aggressive domination, annihilating other lands that would oppose her rule and power. At her side are a group of Huntsmen led by Herrick (Ben Cotton), Senior Magister of the Sect. She is funded a religious group known as the Sect, and has forced its way on Eleysia. Now the Sect themselves are the most interesting characters in the story.

When you think about successful series that have been developed for the web, you can't help but think about "Sanctuary." That series was so successful that Syfy moved it from the web to traditional television. Now, "Riese: Kingdom Falling" is in a very similar position after receiving a strong critical following and attracting several notable names within the genre. Set in the land of Eleysia, which has just witnessed a political coup d.état with Amara (Sharon Taylor, known for her roles in "Stargate: Atlantis" and "Smallville") taking control of the Kingdom. But she didn.t do it alone and was aided by The Sect, a fanatical religious group that has its own sinister plan (and presumably a purpose behind supporting Amara). But "Riese" is different from most fantasy shows. For a start, ...

Riese is finally coming back online next week and the early promos (above) are getting us fired up again. Fans rumbled a bit when sci-fi Riese was abruptly taken offline during its first release last fall. In the puzzling game of online distribution, it’s something many series creators have come to accept as part of the web series territory. Having just signed an international distribution and sales deal with Fireworks, creators Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff had to pull it down to allow for a deal with SyFy to go through. Now the 10-episode steampunk inspired drama heads to SyFy.com as Riese: Kingdom Falling starting Tuesday October 26, with new episodes out every Tuesday and Thursday. SyFy was a natural fit for Riese, with its cast of Sanctuary and Battlestar Galactica vets like Amanda Tapping (Sanctuary), Christine Chatelain (The Bone Collector); Sharon Taylor (Stargate Universe); Ben Cotton (Harper...

Cory Doctorow and the rest of the Boing Boing crew are wearing frock coats and derbies and all ran-tan in celebratory preparation for the upcoming premiere of Riese: Kingdom Falling. The retooled, steampunk original web series debuts on Syfy.com Tuesday, October 26. Riese's initial run wasn't long for the internet. The series was released in late 2009 by creators Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff as an alternate-reality-game-slash-web-series. The duo partnered with UK-based digital distributor, Fireworks four months later. Copple and Kiff then took down the series per a request from Fireworks in the hopes that some type of moneyed distribution or development deal would follow. Two months later, they signed a deal. A $200,000 production budget put to very good use, a compelling fantasy-infused storyline, and a host of Hollywood talent - including Amanda Tapping (Sanctuary), Christine Chatelain (The Bone Collector); Sharon Taylor (Stargate Universe), Ben Cotton (Harper's Island), Allison Mack...

Since web series enjoy a lot of popularity these days, why not talk about another one? This time, we'll be hearing about a Canadian fantasy web series called Riese.
Since I don't want to describe the synopsis in my own words, I'll just leave it to the creators' words. Ready? Here's the description.
Riese is a world of moral ambiguity and political intrigue. A decimated land populated by characters from dreams and nightmares. Loyalties are ever in question, suspicion in the minds of all. The realm, however, was not always so cruel. Everything began with a peaceful nation called Eleysia.
The Kingdom of the Wolf, Eleysia was once prosperous due largely to the influence of Empress Kara and Emperor Ulric. This all changed when a coup d’etat, orchestrated from the shadows by a religious cult, brought about a total regime change.
Taking the throne was Amara (Sharon Taylor), the Empress’s cousin.

We've had our eye on this unique looking web-series for a while now, but were just waiting for an extended trailer to drop. luckily, co-creator Ryan Copple just passed along the first trailer so it's finally time to share!
Riese is a truly original looking new web-series that blends steampunk and fantasy with our genre of choice. It was filmed using the cutting-edge technology of the Red One camera system so is looks stunning and much more along the lines of something you'd find on SyFy than on the web. Though that feeling could just be because the show's cast includes such SyFy tv luminaries as Sanctuary's Christine Chatelain and Stargate: Atlantis' Ben Cotton.

The Arg (alternate reality game) for Riese the Series has begun, you still have time to join the winning side. But first some info on what you have to look forward to when the series kicks off in late October/early November. Riese is a steampunk-inspired (think steam-engines and goggles) series from co-creators Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff, who also co-executive produce and direct the series respectively, that seems closer to something airing on the Syfy network, as-opposed-to the web, based off of the production value and sci-fi standout cast—Christine Chatelain (SyFy’s Sanctuary), Ben Cotton (Harper’s Island), Sharon Taylor (Stargate: Atlantis) and Patrick Gilmore (Battlestar Galactica). Chad Krowchuk is handling the production design and taking full advantage of the picture quality of the Red One camera system with lush, yet post-apocalyptic settings and the costumes look impressively intricate.
