Studs Terkel was born on May 16, 1912 in New York City, New York, USA. He was an actor and writer, known for Eight Men Out (1988), Medium Cool (1969) and American Playhouse (1980). He was married to Ida Goldberg. He died on October 31, 2008 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
His book, Working, has been banned in many schools because in it he
interviews a hooker.

His revue, "Studs Terkel's Not Working" at the Second City Theatre in Chicago, Illinois was awarded the 2009 Joseph Jefferson Award for Production of a Revue.
Son of Anna (Finkel), a seamstress, and Samuel Terkel, a tailor. His parents were Russian Jewish immigrants.
