Emmy-award winning TV host and producer Lloyd Thaxton has died after a battle against cancer. He was 81.
Thaxton passed away on Sunday at his Studio City, California home, after battling multiple myeloma, his wife Barbara tells Variety.
The writer and producer made his name on Lloyd Thaxton's Record Shop, launched in 1959, in which he used puppet fingers, costumes and mime to introduce the latest rock 'n' roll hits.
The show later changed its name to The Lloyd Thaxton Show and went national in 1964. It was popular with teens and featured top recording artists including Sonny + Cher and the Righteous Brothers.
The host was well known for his parting catchphrase: "My name is Lloyd Thaxton", to which the audience would reply, "So What?".
Thaxton later went on to produce Fight Back! With David Horowitz, and The Today Show, winning five Emmy Awards out of 15 nominations.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, a daughter and two stepsons from his first marriage.
