Ahead of a jam-packed Summer Olympics schedule, NBC has opted to cancel not one but two Peacock reality shows.
For most TV shows, getting past that first season is usually a good sign for potential staying power. According to Statista, a little over 12% of all shows on streaming services have gotten the ax in the last three years. Unfortunately for fans of two Peacock reality shows, their favorite shows are just the latest victims of the unforgiving television landscape.
First reported by Deadline, NBC has cancelled LA Fire & Rescue and Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge. Both reality shows premiered less than a year ago on Peacock. It appears that each show was cancelled in an attempt to make room for NBC’s coverage of the upcoming Paris Olympic Games, which begins on July 26. NBC will air the Olympics across its extensive family of networks.

Dick Wolf’s next two shows will stream on Netflix.
The megaproducer behind the Law & Order, FBI and Chicago franchises will executive produce a pair of true-crime documentary series — titled Homicide: New York and Homicide: Los Angeles — that will detail several notorious murder cases in the two cities. Notably, the two shows are being made outside of Wolf Entertainment’s long-time home at NBCUniversal; Wolf is teaming with Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz’s Alfred Street Industries.
Wolf and his company remain under an overall deal at NBCU, which runs through 2027.
Homicide: New York, which premieres March 20, will “bring to life five of New York’s most notorious murder cases by following the detectives and prosecutors that cracked them,” according to the show’s logline. A trailer for the series (watch it below) showcases interviews with the law enforcement officials involved in several cases as well as some re-enactment scenes.

Netflix is adding content from another TV titan to its roster of originals. Homicide: New York, a true-crime docuseries from Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, is set to debut on the streamer on March 20. It will be followed by Homicide: Los Angeles later this year. Both installments consist of five episodes each.
Homicide, from Wolf Entertainment and Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz’s Alfred Street Industries, tells the stories of a city’s most notorious murder cases by following the detectives and prosecutors who cracked them.
The project predates Wolf’s current massive deal with Universal Studio Group (signed in 2020 and extended in 2023 through 2027), which includes a first-look agreement with Universal Television Alternative Studio for unscripted/docu-series.
Homicide is executive produced by Wolf, Tom Thayer, the head of the non-scripted arm of Wolf Entertainment who was instrumental in getting the project together, Lipsitz, Cutforth, Nan Strait, Dan Volpe and Adam Kassen.

“Cold Justice” is a true-crime series currently airing on Oxygen. It follows former prosecutor Kelly Siegler and retired investigator Yolanda McLary. The duo travels across the country to small towns, reviving bone-chilling decades-old unsolved homicides, putting criminals to justice, and bringing solace to distraught victims.
You see two professionals at work, taking the assistance of local law enforcement authorities to rebuild cases and confront suspects. The stakes are high as the show is unscripted, and criminals could resort to aggression in self-defense.

Fox is pushing deeper into unscripted programming after the breakout of The Masked Singer, re-teaming with producer Dick Wolf on First Responders Live. Hosted by Josh Elliott, the show will premiere June 12. It promises “an unprecedented look at fearless first responders as they answer emergency calls across the country.” The territory explored by First Responders Live is already marked in the scripted realm by Wolf’s Chicago-set dramas centered around police and fire units (as well as hospital and legal personnel), but the new series takes the concept into real life. In basic cable, A&E’s Live Pd has gotten significant traction with a similar approach, delivering the network its highest ratings of any of its current shows and some enviable stats in on-demand viewing as well.
For Wolf, the venture marks a return to Fox, which aired his show New York Undercover for four seasons in the mid-1990s.

In an effort to make jury duty fun, NBC has ordered a live, unscripted spin-off of Law & Order that promises to have viewers serve as arbiters of real cases, according to THR. Dubbed You the Jury, it'll be a one-hour prime-time show focused on civil cases, in which the audience will reportedly determine verdicts and weigh in on witnesses and evidence via interactive voting. (Think The People's Court meets the engagement portions of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire — fun?) The series, which NBC nabbed in May, comes from producers Magical Elves, Wolf Reality's Tom Thayer, and procedural titan Dick Wolf, who has left his mark on NBC with decades of material ranging from the Law & Order series to the Chicago-based series. An air date has still yet to be announced, which is great because this sounds like a lot of responsibility.
