- An avid collector of Hollywood costumes and accessories, Thomas became an expert on movie memorabilia and would act as a consultant at auctions.
- In 1968, Thomas became the first recipient of the annual "Waggy" award, presented by the Western Accessories Group for "his consistent development of the most chic and tasteful fashion accessories in the motion picture industry"
- Attended the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. Majored in drama at the University of Southern California. Wartime service as a supply sergeant with the Army Air Corps and designed costumes for U.S.O. shows. Post-war, briefly at MGM as apprentice to Irene and Walter Plunkett (1947 to 1949) , specialising in historical costume. Under contract to Universal from 1949 to 1960. With the Disney Organisation after 1961.
