He received bachelor's and master's degrees from West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M University).
He originated the role of Calvin Armstrong in 1966 in the outdoor musical "Texas" presented each summer in Palo Duro Canyon State Park by the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation.
He was an instructor in the speech department of El Centro Junior College (now El Centro College) in Dallas, Texas, in the late 1960s and 1970s.
