Scheme offers first roles for black, Asian and minority ethnic talent
Film London and Creative Access are to co-fund 12 entry level placements for London-based creative companies looking for new animation talent.
The initiative will fund 12 full-time training position paid at London Living Wage, providing 75% of the fee for the first six months, and 50% for six months thereafter.
The scheme seeks to address the lack of diversity across the screen industries, offering a bespoke talent search service for companies who require trainees, connecting them with up and coming, graduate-calibre individuals from black, Asian and minority ethnic (Bame) backgrounds.
The scheme is open to all employers working across the animation industry, from film studios and television production companies to advertising agencies.
Adrian Wootton, CEO of Film London and the British Film Commission, said: “Analysis by Creative Skillset shows a real lack of diversity in the production industry’s workforce, and with schemes like this we hope to ensure London...

Los Angeles, April 19 (Reuters) - The end of the world once again comes to Hollywood's big screens this summer, with movies ranging from big-budget action adventures to indie comedies putting their twist on the apocalypse.
Earth is annihilated after aliens destroy the moon, giant robots battle monsters, and in a comedy take on the biblical rapture, mortals are left behind to deal with atheists and spirits.
"Oblivion," starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, starts the trend on Friday. Made on an estimated budget of $120 million and set in 2077, it follows the last humans as they prepare to find a new home on another planet.
"There's an innate fascination with thinking about what life would be like after we're gone," the film's director, Joseph Kosinski, told Reuters.
"Oblivion" will be followed in June and July by M. Night Shyamalan's "After Earth," starring Will Smith, all-star comedy "This is the End,...

Religion News Service
(Rns) Many TV network executives, advertisers and producers would sell their souls to get the kind of audience God has. But giving religion a starring role in prime time? Not so much.
Religion, God and spirituality have made cameos across the dial from "The Sopranos" to "The Simpsons" -- though usually as a prop or walk-on role. But shows where religion is a central part of the premise are rare, and the ratings are generally far from heavenly.
Short of touchy-feely shows like "Touched By an Angel" or "Highway to Heaven," why is religion so radioactive in Hollywood?
This month, cable network TLC canceled "All-American Muslim" after only about 700,000 viewers watched the season finale of the reality show featuring Muslims in Dearborn, Mich.
Meanwhile, ABC's saucy new drama "Gcb" -- think "Desperate Housewives" in choir robes -- that's based on Kim Gatlin's novel...

B&B commercial claims on October 28 Daytime Television will go where it's never gone before
Brooke in the preview: "Sometimes when we least expect it, something happens and makes us stop and take stock of our lives. We look back on what we've done. And you can't help but wonder, what's next?"
B&B's Ronn Moss loves Australia
"The people all seem to have a no bullshit attitude about life and friendship. If I went there and had my own 'holier than thou' attitude, they would have just said 'get the hell out of here with all that.' I'm not at all like that. I love a good laugh, I love a good bevy, and I don't take myself that seriously."

The latest racy shots of "Glee" stars, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Dianna Agron, featured in November issue of GQ magazine have sparked lots of controversy. Parents Television Council's president Tim Winter dubbed the provocative images "near-pornographic" and the pics border on pedophilia. Meanwhile, editor in chief of GQ, Jim Nelson, has released their objection.
"The Parents Television Council must not be watching much TV these days and should learn to divide reality from fantasy," Nelson fired back PTC in a statement. "As often happens in Hollywood, these 'kids' are in their twenties. Cory Monteith's almost 30! I think they're old enough to do what they want." While Monteith is 28, Michele and Agron are both 24 years old.
Professor of popular culture at Syracuse University, Bob Thompson, also raised his voice, brushing off PTC's comments. Thompson told Reuters, "From the very beginning, 'Glee' has dealt with pot, teen pregnancy and gay sexuality.

Jury is mixed on how DeGeneres has fit into the club.
By Gil Kaufman
Ellen DeGeneres and Randy Jackson

As anyone who has switched high schools mid-year can tell you, it's never easy fitting in with the cool kids.
Midway through her first season on "American Idol," talk-show host/ comedian Ellen DeGeneres hasn't tripped and dropped her lunch tray in front of the whole school yet, but she also hasn't exactly gotten the lead in the school production of "Grease," according to our panel of experts.
DeGeneres was ostensibly brought in to add a touch of humor to the judges' table following the departure of judge Paula Abdul. But our "Idol" watchers said she was also tapped to beef up the panel before Simon Cowell's departure, which became an eventuality before Ellen even had a chance to warm up her seat. And while she hasn't set the show on fire,...

Those of you wondering what director Martyn Pick has in store for us with his Ultramarines movie should take a look at this gallery of concept art for the upcoming animated 3D movie.
Bob Thompson, producer of Ultramarines, says it was important to get the look of the artwork just right: "One of the many challenges in bringing the Warhammer 40k universe to the screen is to make a natural transition from table-top game to film reality. Our art and design team have used extensive source material from Games Workshop’s Forge World and publications to ensure every element of the movie is as authentic as possible."
"Before the animation team begins work, our next steps are recording the characters’ voices and producing the storyboards."
Check out 18 pieces of Ultramarines concept art after the break and watch an interview with Ultramarines writer, Dan Abnett here.

Los Angeles - It has won over 100 Emmys, been shown in more than 125 countries and on Tuesday it will celebrate a rare achievement in an age of ever-shifting tastes: Sesame Street will be 40 years old. 'Sesame Street is one of the five most influential television shows of all time,' says popular culture professor Bob Thompson of Syracuse University. 'It had an enormous social influence as well as artistic. In fact there's nothing like it on the air to this day.' The format of the show may have changed somewhat since that first historic broadcast on November 10, 1969, which itself was the result of extensive research that aimed to find the way of blending...
