“The Parent Trap” meets “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” with “Dicks: The Musical,” A24’s first forray into movie musicals. Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson star in the adaptation of their Off-Broadway show as two womanizing, misogynistic business salesmen who, when their companies merge, find out they are long-lost identical twins. The pair, then, hatch a plan to swap lives and get their parents back together, a task that proves much harder (and weirder) than they thought. Also starring Nathan Lane, Megan Mullaly, Megan Thee Stallion, and Bowen Yang, “Dicks: The Musical” will make its streaming debut on Friday, Feb. 2 on Max. You can watch with a 7-Day Free Trial of Max.

Based on Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp’s Off-Broadway show Fucking Identical Twins, Dicks: The Musical plays to the cheap seats from the get-go. This perverse riff on The Parent Trap—in which identical twins separated at birth, Craig (Sharp) and Trevor (Jackson), meet and try to reunite their gay father, Harris (Nathan Lane), with their agoraphobic, wheelchair-bound mother, Evelyn (Megan Mullally)—delights in breaking the rules of good taste. Yet its ceaseless reveling in the raunchy and depraved, including a queer, coke-snorting God (Bowen Yang) and a detached flying vagina, is all that Dicks has going for it.
Larry Charles’s film opens with something of a mission statement: sarcastic on-screen text declaring that Sharp and Jackson are gay and that their decision to play misogynistic straight dudes is incredibly brave. It’s a clear shot at the overt self-satisfaction of certain actors’ tendencies to inflate their own sense...

The latest entry in the animated franchise, Resident Evil: Death Island comes two years after the last entry, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, and is set in 2015, just after the events of Resident Evil: Vendetta but before Resident Evil 7. Got that?
Somewhere in San Fransisco Dso Agent Leon S. Kennedy is trying to recover kidnapped scientist Dr. Antonio Taylor (Frank Todaro) when a mysterious woman appears and, after a high-speed chase, causes him to crash. Claire Redfield is also in town, trying to find out what kind of creature can use Orcas as a food source. And whether or not the creature is a bioweapon.
Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers are also looking for answers.

The uneven Japanese animated fantasy “The Deer King” often resembles the sort of Studio Ghibli action-adventure that made animation figurehead Hayao Miyazaki internationally famous, especially “Princess Mononoke” and “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.” “The Deer King” not only looks like those Studio Ghibli staples, but also follows a plot that recalls Ghibli-style high fantasies: two warring feudal kingdoms try either to capture or enlist Van, a resourceful ex-soldier who may or may not be immune to a devastating plague.
Comparisons between “The Deer King” and Studio Ghibli’s better known movies seem inevitable, especially given how many of this movie’s creators learned their trade as animators and animation directors at Studio Ghibli, particularly co-directors Masashi Ando and Masayuki Miyaji, and key animators Kenichi Konishi and Kenichi Yoshida. Thankfully, what works in so many Ghibli movies also mostly works in “The Deer King,” given the craft and consideration...

Boasting a vintage 1930s 2D visual style and packed with wacky antics, “The Cuphead Show!” is the latest addition to Netflix’s burgeoning animation slate. The 12-episode series, based on the hugely popular run-and-gun game from Studio Mdhr, follows the adventures of brothers Cuphead and Mugman as they hop out of the frying pan and into the fire only to land on their feet ready for more high-octane escapades.
The reckless and impulsive Cuphead, voiced by Tru Valentino, is tempered somewhat by his cautious and slightly neurotic brother Mugman (Frank Todaro), while Elder Kettle (Joe Hanna) is the patient guardian who ensures order in their snug little cottage on Inkwell Isle. Luke Millington-Drake voices the duo’s nemesis, The Devil, with Wayne Brady pitching in as the voice of the Cab Calloway–styled big band leader King Dice, and Grey Griffin as the noir-inflected Ms. Chalice.

This article contains no spoilers for The Cuphead Show.
When independent developer Studio Mdhr released Cuphead in 2017, gamers all over the world were astounded by the daring art style and fluid gameplay the title offered. Controlling the titular Cuphead and his brother Mugman, players became entranced in a world where they could control a 1930s cartoon that doubled as a video game.
Many of the trademark animation techniques of the decade are imitated in the game, namely the rubber hose style. Boss fights have rich historical backgrounds rooted in fun and obtuse trivia from the time period and other lore in gaming. (Cuphead Wiki gives you some amazing facts and tidbits about each character in the game.)
This is the type of creative mettle that Aaa studios have unfortunately become too complacent to replicate, instead making games that repeat the same concepts and styles over and over again. Indie teams...

Hasbro and Machinima have released the first trailer for their upcoming new Transformers animated series, Transformers: Titans Return. This is the second chapter of the series that started with Transformers: Combiner Wars, which is a series you should watch, especially if you're a fan of the original 80s Transformers series!
This latest iteration of Transformers was made for all of us who grew up on the original Transformers because it captures the style and spirit of it. This new trailer definitely shows off some cool footage from the new series, and I'm looking forward to checking it out! Here are the details that have been released for Titans Return:
Picking up right where the destruction of the Combiner Wars left off, Titans Return takes the action of the Prime Wars Trilogy to new ‘heights,’ and features return appearances from many fan-favorite Transformers characters as well as introduces new Autobots and Decepticons.

My first book, Spooked, a hard look at corporate espionage, came out in 2000 and received about 30 reviews in all sorts of publications. There were the usual suspects, like The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal, and Library Journal, to the less usual--National Post, Electronic Business--to the now defunct (Business 2.0).
