Editor Graydon Carter, 63, has been a fixture at Vanity Fair since 1992. Keith Kelly reports that he's having a bumpy time renegotiating his contract, which is up in July, with Conde Nast CEO Charles Townsend, rather than S.I. Newhouse. Carter has enjoyed his expansive lifestyle, riding the magazine through more heady times, from annual Oscar and Cannes bashes and power lists to dabbling in documentary filmmaking. But things are tighter now, and I would caution Carter to remember the post-Conde Nast career of Tina Brown. While she did well at Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, Harvey Weinstein lured her away to run Talk Magazine, which flopped; she then tried television punditry, wrote bestselling bio "The Diana Chronicles," and finally landed at The Daily Beast and Newsweek. If Carter's time has come, his replacements are lining up. Kelly cites star New York editor Adam Moss, who is probably the most gifted editor of his generation,...

The new Charlie in the Charlie's Angels TV revamp has revealed he only secured the iconic role three days before the new series debuted in America on Thursday night
Actor Victor Garber was hired to replace first choice Robert Wagner as the voice of detective agency owner Charles Townsend at the beginning of the week (beg19Sep11).
He jokes, "They (producers) were in a panic. I think my agent was negotiating with someone in the Emmys audience (on Sunday)."
But Garber is thrilled to be playing the role which was originated by the late John Forsythe.
He tells TV Guide magazine, "This is an out-of-the-blue, out-of-body experience. I'm just happy they settled on me... I was really walking in off the street.
"They showed me the opening title sequence, where I introduce the Angels and tell the story of how it all happened, which is sort of the most important thing."
And he insists he's very excited about developing the new Charlie: "There will be implications that he is more involved than in the original series. He's an interesting, complicated guy and it will be fun to explore that as the series goes on."...

Just three days before its September 22 premiere, ABC's new Charlie's Angels finally settled on an actor to replace Robert Wagner as the voice of detective agency owner Charles Townsend — former Alias star Victor Garber. "They were in a panic. I think my agent was negotiating with someone in the Emmys audience," says Garber, who has the same gentlemanly grace as the late John Forsythe, Charlie on the original series and in two feature films. "This is an out-of-the-blue, out-of-body experience. I'm just happy they settled on me."

Victor Garber just can't stay away from attractive female spies. But then again, can you blame him?
Vulture is reporting that Garber, best known as Sydney Bristow's (Jennifer Garner) father on "Alias," may soon be the faceless voice of Charlie on ABC's "Charlie's Angels."
Robert Wagner lent his dulcet tones as the mysterious Charles Townsend in the pilot, but Wagner split from the production, leaving an awkward silence. That's where Garber may just come in.
The story states that Patrick Stewart ("Star Trek: The Next Generation") and Julian McMahon ("Nip/Tuck") are also being considered for the man on the other end of the line.
Nothing like waiting until the last minute as the series debuts Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. Et.

Whether or not they've seen the original 1970s TV series or the feature films from the early 2000s, most people have heard of "Charlie's Angels." Much like the original, ABC's reboot centers on three women solving cases for their mysterious and elusive boss, Charles Townsend. The action-packed show features a trio of beautiful women in need of a second chance: Abby (Rachael Taylor) the thief, Kate (Annie Ilonzeh) the fallen cop, and Eve (Minka Kelly) the street racer. The update borrows stories from the original, but the show has a darker, more realistic feel. However, casting director Debi Manwiller says the original is a good jumping-off point for actors trying to familiarize themselves with the show. "It's not a straight-up procedural cop show at all," she reveals. "There's definitely a lightness to it and the banter and the fun between the girls." She adds that the reboot has a definite sense.

When news broke that Robert Wagner is out as the voice of Charlie in the upcoming ABC series "Charlie's Angels," we were left wondering who would replace reclusive, crime fighting financier. While producers have yet to announce a new Charles Townsend, we've come up with a few suggestions of our own.
We only request the typical 10 percent agent fees if any of these come to pass.
Val Kilmer -- Kilmer is normally in front of the camera in such films as "The Doors," "Heat" and "Tombstone," but he's done voice work as well. In 2008 he voiced Kitt in the "Knight Rider" reboot. So he's clearly comfortable being heard and not seen. Additionally, Kilmer has experience as a wealthy, eccentric crime fighter from his days as "Batman." Seems like a natural fit.
William Shatner -- Who better to deliver marching orders than Captain Kirk? Sure his delivery can be a bit deliberate,...

Producer Leonard Goldberg (formerly one half of Spelling-Goldberg Productions) is back in the producer's chair for another turn at Charlie's Angels, the successful 1970s series about three women who work as private investigators for a mysterious man known as Charles Townsend. The new Charlie's Angels will return to ABC — its original home for five seasons during the '70s — according to Entertainment Weekly.
The property launched a feature film franchise back in 2000 starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. The first two films were directed by McG.
Barrymore is among the producers of the new series (alongside Goldberg and Nancy Juvonen). Gossip Girl's Mark Piznarski is in negotiations to direct, reports EW.
The new series is expected to adhere to the format of the original, but the location will change from La to Miami.

Just like Hawaii Five-0 made its way back to the small screen, you can expect to see a Charlie’s Angels remake on ABC within the next year, reports our sister site Deadline Hollywood. Currently, the network is searching for actors to play Charlie –- and his angels –- with hopes of starting production in Miami in January. The HollywoodLife.com staff took it upon ourselves to cast the reboot — do You agree with our choices?
Megan Fox: Sure, she’s a huge movie star — but Megan’s big-screen career is starting to slow down, and maybe hubby Brian Austin Green’s current recurring role on Desperate Housewives, is enough to inspire Megan to return to her small-screen roots! (Anyone remember her on...

John Forsythe was a leading actor on stage, screen and television from the late 1940s, but was never seen in one of his best known roles. He lent his distinctive voice to the role of Charles Townsend, who sent an array of lovely agents on various cases by speaker phone in the Charlie’s Angels television series from 1976 to 1981. The Angels originally included Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith, and were later joined by Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack, and Tanya Roberts. He reprised his role for feature film adaptations twenty years later, Charlie’s Angels (2000) and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003), starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu as a new generation of beautiful detectives. Forsythe became a silver-haired sex symbol in his sixties, when he starred as ruthless oil tycoon Blake Carrington in the ABC prime-time soap opera Dynasty from 1981 to 1989. He frequently found himself at the...
