The end has come for Freeform series Cruel Summer and Good Trouble. The Disney-owned cable net has canceled Cruel Summer after two seasons and Good Trouble will end with the second half of its upcoming fifth season, Deadline has confirmed.
We hear Good Trouble will be given the opportunity to film some additional scenes for a supersized series finale episode to properly wrap up the series. Season 5B premieres on January 2.

Well, the plot thickens! We didn't realize the "K" in Y2K stood for "karma."
Megan and Isabella are starting their plan of sweet justice on Cruel Summer Season 2 Episode 7.
This is the stage of the murder investigation we have all been waiting for, Cruel Summer fans. The first chapter in this next phase brought us to the edge of our seats. And we can't wait for more!
"It's The End Of The World" was a perfectly-named episode. Megan was front and center in each period, experiencing the start of her romance with Luke and her university dreams crashing down.
If you want to sum up Cruel Summer Season 2's journey of highs and lows for a character, look no further than Megan's worst nightmare.
Before everything became worse for her, Megan seemed to be riding high. She had her scholarship, a new friend, and a successful side business with Ned.

All the lies are starting to unravel. It's only a matter of time before every secret is out in the open.
It was a chapter of truths coming to light on Cruel Summer Season 2 Episode 6.
Sometimes it was a dramatic reveal, like Jeff finding out the truth, to big game changers like Parker overhearing a chat. The pieces are moving together, and we're diving deeper into what's hiding beneath the surface.
One of the big takeaways of "The Plunge" was seeing the first noticeable cracks in Luke's facade.
For much of Cruel Summer Season 2, he had always been seen as the "nice" boy. The sweetheart who was nothing like his brother or dad; the boy next door in love with the girl next door. But he's more of a Chambers than we realized.
His birthday party during the summer of 1999 showed us the first curious hints.

[This story contains spoilers for Cruel Summer season two, episode five.]
Halfway through its second season, Cruel Summer’s murder mystery is heating up.
“It’s a huge bomb that’s dropped,” says showrunner Elle Triedman about the recently released episode five cliffhanger. “It just makes the characters — and I hope the audience — reexamine everything they thought they knew.”
Coming off the heels of a successful debut season, the Freeform anthology series reset itself for season two, introducing new characters (and a new cast), a new story and new setting to its audiences.
“There’s a lot of pressure,” Triedman tells The Hollywood Reporter of joining the series for its sophomore run. “The fans are fierce. They spend a lot of time; it’s kind of amazing, just reading their theories. They look at everything.”
With producer credits on shows like Revenge and Devious Maids, Triedman stepped in as showrunner and executive producer after the...

Cruel Summer’s unexpected Private Practice family reunion was “a very lucky accident,” according to new showrunner Elle Triedman.
The Freeform drama’s Season 2 premiere on Monday introduced viewers to a complicated teenage love triangle between Megan (played by Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Lexi Underwood) and Luke (Griffin Gluck). But it’s Luke’s relationship with two other costars that is full of history: Gluck’s Cruel Summer dad is portrayed by Paul Adelstein, who also played his character Mason’s father, Cooper Freedman, on ABC’s Private Practice. Limited series have become the equivalent of trial marriages for cable networks and streamers. When they don’t catch fire — or run hot initially only to smolder by season’s end – they complete their self-contained stories and disappear into the void. (It’s technically not a cancellation!) But when the audience falls in love with a limited series, networks are more than happy to extend the runway, even when doing so is narratively prohibitive.
Such is the case with Freeform’s “Cruel Summer,” the intelligent, twisty teen mystery that debuted in 2021 and became the most-watched series since the network’s 2016 rebrand. Technically, “Cruel Summer” wasn’t announced as a limited series, but it came to such a comprehensive conclusion that extending it after its wrapped up state would have reeked of desperation. After considering multiple options, including having the same ensemble return as new characters, the producers opted to anthologize the show,...

The first season of Cruel Summer was an unexpected hit for Freeform back in 2021 when it became the No. 1 new cable drama among women. The series had a great hook: the story was divided across three years, each visually distinct, following the same characters as their circumstances changed in relation to a central mystery.
In season one, that was the kidnapping of a popular girl. In season two of showrunner Elle Triedman‘s anthology series, the stakes have escalated to murder.
Just like before, the action involves two high school girls: risk-averse, straight A student Megan Landry (Sadie Stanley) and Isabella Larue (Lexi Underwood), the wealthy daughter of diplomats. The latter girl is essentially an exchange student who comes to stay with Megan and her family – mom Debbie (KaDee Strickland) and younger sister Lily (Jenna Lamb) – for a year in the small Pacific North West tourist town of Chatam.

It’s going to be a Cruel Summer for two new teenage girls in Season 2 of the Freeform anthology series, which returns with a two-hour premiere on Monday, June 5 at 9/8c.
Following the breakout hit’s first season, which starred Chiara Aurelia and Olivia Holt, it was unclear if the show would continue with their fan-fave characters, Jeanette and Kate, at the center of a new mystery, or if the cast would return to play new personas. Ultimately, the creative team opted to go the full-fledged anthology route, with a new ensemble and a fresh mystery for the second season.

Jessica Biel rose to stardom in the early 2000s-era of movies, starring in films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Stealth, Blade: Trinity, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, not to mention her time on hit series 7th Heaven. Want a gripping TV mystery? Start in a small town that’s got big problems. Take Chatham, a sleepy Pacific Northwest beach hamlet, where you’ll find troubled teens, shady parents, bitter betrayals — and a body washing ashore. It’s the perfect setting for the twisty new installment of Cruel Summer, Freeform’s hit anthology series. The first season, which aired in 2021, recounted a 1990s tale of an abducted Texas high schooler (Olivia Holt) and the classmate (Chiara Aurelia) who may have been complicit in the crime. That season set up the unique conceit of Cruel Summer: All the action ping-pongs between three different timelines, so you get a clearer picture of how the evolving mystery unfolds. Season 1 took place over three consecutive summers; for Season 2, new showrunner Elle Triedman is working in a far more compressed space. Armed with a fresh cast and a case of young love gone awry,...

Olivia Welch, Mike Faist and Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut have landed lead roles in Amazon Studios’ YA pilot Panic, from writer Lauren Oliver based on her best-selling book and producers Joe Roth & Jeff Kirschenbaum
Written and created by Oliver, Panic centers on a forgotten rural town where every year the graduating seniors risk their lives in an illegal, high-stakes game to win life-changing money–and a chance to escape. Anonymous judges force the players through a series of challenges that will compel them to confront their deepest fears – and upend their ideas of who they are, who to trust, and who they might become. This year, 47 players — three of them played by Welch, Faist and Chestnut — will compete for the biggest pot ever. All of them will be changed. Only one will win.
Welch will play Heather, a talented writer who is deeply uncomfortable in her own skin and nowhere near realizing her full potential.

Eva Longoria‘s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment has set up two more projects – a comedy at NBC and drama at Lifetime. The NBC project stars rising comedian Erik Rivera and is based on his life and standup. Comedy veteran Peter Murrieta will write the script and will executive produce with Scott Ellis, who is set to direct, and UnbeliEVAble’s Longoria and Ben Spector. The project stems from a deal UnbeliEVAble made with Rivera earlier this year to develop a vehicle based on his comedy. The setup is reminiscent of ABC’s The George Lopez Show, which also started with a well known actress, Sandra Bullock, championing a Latino comedian on the rise, Lopez, and partnering him with an established sitcom showrunner, Bruce Helford, for a comedy project starring Lopez and based on his standup. Revenge, Season 2, Episode 20: “Engagement”

“I know what a woman in love looks like Emily, and it isn’t you. It wasn’t a year ago and it isn’t now”. Revenge is closing in on its second season finale and “Engagement” finds some of the season’s biggest revelations coming to light.
“Engagement” starts off as a slow episode and doesn’t seem very promising, but it quickly takes off, beginning with Daniel’s announcement that he and Emily have renewed their engagement. Given Emily’s real reason for the engagement it isn’t all that surprising that she has convinced Daniel to get married in Paris and move there. Her ultimate goal has always been to rip everything away from Victoria.

Revenge, Season 2, Episode 15: “Retribution”
Written by Nikki Toscano and Elle Triedman
Directed by Helen Hunt
Airs Sundays at 9 pm (Et) on ABC
It’s no secret that Revenge had lost its way earlier this season but with Amanda’s death at the end of the last episode, Emily’s desire to destroy the Graysons has been renewed and so has the show.
The Graysons are scrambling and in a panic trying to get out from under the Initiative, which is an interesting position to see them in, but it’s obvious that the Initiative storyline is winding down. Hopefully Emily’s new motivation for revenge will put the show back on track.
When Emily tells Victoria, “You must feel so helpless” early in the episode, it is an obvious taunt and even a promise. Losing control is Victoria’s greatest fear, but losing control of her children is even scarier.

Revenge, Season 2, Episode 7: “Penance”
Written by Elle Triedman
Directed by Colin Bucksey
Airs Sundays at 9 pm (Et) on ABC
“Don’t keep secrets, you only live to regret them”. Well, Victoria (Madeline Stowe) would know.
“Emily’s fate rests with you” Aidan (Barry Sloane) reminds Nolan. In making the biggest financial sacrifice, the writers have shown that Nolan’s (Gabriel Mann) really the only character willing to make compromises and sacrifices for other people. Emily might forget it sometimes but Nolan is really an important and massive player in her world.
Now that Treadwell knows Emily’s biggest secret, I’m curious to see in what direction the show will go. Before Treadwell was simply a nuisance. Now’s he’s a nuisance with a terrible secret and in telling Kara (Jennifer Jason Leigh) the truth about his book on David Clarke, he’s already made a major misstep.

Revenge Review, Season 1, Episode 11, “Duress”
Written by Elle Triedman
Directed by Jame Babbit
Airs Wednesdays at 10pm Et on ABC
Louis Godfrey: Well, we had to wait a few weeks, but Revenge has returned, and the drama with Tyler, the craven, extorting, sexually flexible psychotic living in the Grayson’s pool house, finally came to a head. But before we get to that (anti-)climax, I have to point out all the impotence this episode was swimming in.
Figuratively, I mean, or at least mostly figuratively. I’m slowly starting to see Daniel Grayson not as some likeable schmuck, but as an arrogant frat boy who basks in his privilege while being continuously propped up by others.
