The actor who played “Wolfman” in the original Top Gun is suing Paramount Pictures over what he claims is the unauthorized use of his likeness in the 2022 sequel.
Barry Tubb, the actor who played Leonard “Wolfman” Wolfe in the 1986 movie Top Gun, filed a complaint Wednesday in California court.
Tubb claims that any permission to use his likeness “did not include the use of his image in the sequel,” the massively successful Top Gun: Maverick.
The scene that raised the objection features an old photo of Iceman (Val Kilmer), Goose (Anthony Edwards), Maverick (Tom Cruise), and Wolfman.
The complaint states that the image is “a four-shot close-up clearly establishing plaintiff,” and “[Tubb’s] likeness in the scene is essential in a way that is not incidental.” The papers allege that the photo is actually an altered version of a behind-the-scenes shot of the original actors, and therefore the alterations “destroyed any purported copyright” to the image.

A supporting actor who appeared alongside Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer in the 1986 action drama Top Gun is now suing Paramount over the use of his likeness in the 2022 smash hit sequel Top Gun: Maverick.
Barry Tubb, who played Leonard “Wolfman” Wolfe in the 1986 movie filed the suit Wednesday in L.A. against the studio that released the nostalgic Top Gun: Maverick, which became the second-highest-grossing movie of 2022 at the worldwide box office. In the complaint, Tubb states that there was no stipulation in his contract to include his image in any potential sequel, which is what happened in a notable scene in Maverick.
Tubb is demanding a jury trial in the case.
The Maverick scene in question shows two characters coming upon an old photo from the era of the 1986 film that shows Iceman (Val Kilmer), Goose (Anthony Edwards), Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Tubb’s Wolfman.

You’re probably wondering who Barry Tubb is at this point, and it’d be great to say that he’s still at it and still acting just as much as he used to since his career apparently ended in 2014 and he’s been keeping a low profile ever since. It’s hard to say what might have happened since there’s not a lot of information on that, but it could have been that he simply grew disillusioned with Hollywood and felt the need to get away and even get back to his roots. He did have a pretty solid career for a while

Title: Two Step Director: Alex R. Johnson Starring: Skyy Moore, James Landry Hebert, Beth Broderick, Jason Douglas, Ashley Rae Spillers, Barry Tubb, Brady Coleman A small town-set indie crime drama of smartly modulated disquiet, ”Two Step” is a refreshing reminder of the abundance of talent, onscreen and off, that lies outside of the conventional cinematic production hubs of Los Angeles and New York City. A SXSW world premiere, writer-director Alex R. Johnson’s film is a slow-boil affair, marked by superb performances and a solid technical package. Baylor University wash-out James (Skyy Moore) returns home, only to have the grandmother who raised him somewhat suddenly pass away and bequeath him a five-figure inheritance. [ Read More ]

Mill Creek released several noteworthy Blu-ray releases on Tuesday, most of which were re-issues, but The Legend of Billie Jean makes its high-def debut. Those of you that are familiar with this film, or its practically non-existent home video presence, will realize immediately how big of a deal it is to have this film released to the Blu-ray format. The Legend of Billie Jean has always been an eighties favorite of mine. A lot of really cool movies came out during the decade, but this one always stood out. It could be that it got away with being as dark as it is, even with a PG-13 rating, or it could be it is one of Helen Slater’s few, and very best roles. I know, I know, Supergirl, The Secret of My Success, blahblahblahblah, but I genuinely consider this to be the seminal Helen Slater role. It doesn’t...

If Laura Mulvey ever decided to write about cars, she’d have a field day with John Carpenter’s 1983 Stephen King adaptation Christine. Forget cinema’s “male gaze,” [how’s that for a reference, fellow film nerds?] she’d need to term the phrase “car gaze” as the film completely, and unabashedly, fetishes every single inch of the beautiful red 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine. The camera lingers on her every curve and shiny texture. It’s quite a thing to behold. And who better to play the female equivalent of this fetishistic gaze in the film than the stunningly beautiful, and equally talented, Alexandra Paul. Only 19 years old at the time of filming, Paul handles the “second female lead” role of Leigh like a seasoned veteran and gives horror fans a reason to hope for poor Christine’s destruction.

Weekend Box Office: Cocky Flying Ace Tom Cruise to surpass Raiders of the Lost Ark's Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford at the domestic box office this weekend? Tom Cruise's violent action-thriller Jack Reacher, which debuted in late December 2012, didn't turn out to be a major success at the Us / Canada box office. (See more information on Jack Reacher's worldwide box-office performance below.) On the other hand, this past Friday Cruise had a solid early 2013 North American opening -- in limited released and on 3D, no less: This early Feb. 2013 weekend, Top Gun, the Tony Scott-directed 1986 action movie that made Cruise an international superstar, is getting a 3D rerelease in North America at 300 locations. Despite the chaos caused by winter storm Nemo, on Friday the Top Gun rerelease brought in an estimated $533k according to figures found at Box Office Mojo, thus easily surpassing the Harrison Ford / Steven Spielberg...

Joseph Mazzello came pretty close to being forever mired in that well-worn, curiosity-driven trap of “whatever happened to this child star?” But the Jurassic Park actor has made something of a comeback these past couple of years, thanks entirely to turns in HBO’s The Pacific and David Fincher‘s The Social Network; although this small role probably won’t get him into a spandex suit and in front of a green screen right away, it’s good to see more work come in.
Deadline reports that he, Josh Fadem (The Master), and Michelle Forbes (The Killing) are part of the cast for Dear Sidewalk, an independent comedy that has Davi Jay (Treme), Barry Tubb (Top Gun), and Roark Critchlow (Days of our Lives) signed to star. Jake Oelman is directing from a script by Jake Limbert, which follows “a young mail carrier who falls for a recently relocated divorcee on his route.

Steve Aylett has written some comics. I have read them. Yet, I haven’t felt like I read a Steve Aylett comic until I read Brandon Graham’s King City.
You may have not heard of Steve Aylett.
This is a huge compliment.
I Love King City, and it ascends to my post-nostalgia top shelf along with such titles as Planetary, Maxx, Seven Soldiers, Morrison’s New X-Men, Skyscrapers of the Midwest, Lemire’s Essex County, Warriors of Plasm, and One Piece. King City, my new shit, the best of my best of 2011 for me, the cream of the crop — the Val Kilmer and Barry Tubb. This is the one comic you need to read if you haven’t yet done so.

Gilbert Cates Obit Pt.1: Oscar Ceremony Most Frequent Producer In fact, Gilbert Cates' best film-related work took place far from the Academy Awards ceremonies. Two of his '70s movies in particular, the family dramas I Never Sang for My Father (1970) and Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams (1973), are notable both for Cates' quiet, subtle handling of the dramatic situations and for the generally masterful performances: I Never Sang for My Father featured Melvyn Douglas, Gene Hackman, and Estelle Parsons; Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams featured Joanne Woodward, Martin Balsam, and Sylvia Sidney (photo). Douglas and Woodward were nominated for Oscars, and so were Hackman and Sidney in the supporting categories (even though Hackman was as much a lead as Douglas). Douglas, Woodward, and the veteran Sidney, a first-time nominee after more than four decades in films, should have won. They lost to, respectively, George C. Scott in Patton; Glenda Jackson...

No, Javelina is not a new superhero movie about a javelin-throwing female crimefighter. Javelina is another name for a peccary, a pig-like animal found in the American wild, the name being derived from its sharp tusks. Now I bet you can easily guess what the movie Javelina is about.
This latest killer pig flick is the creation of Texas actor/filmmaker Barry Tubb, perhaps best remembered as "Wolfman" in Top Gun. Javelina sees a small Texas town terrorized by a pissed off wild javelina seeking revenge against the hunters that killed its mother. D.B Sweeney ("The Event", Eight Men Out) co-stars.
There's not a whole lot of info about this low budget nature gone amok movie out there at this time. But we do have a trailer and a funny tagline: "You were safer in the water."

Last night an e-mail showed up with info and the first pics from a new indie vampire film called Bram Stoker’s Vampire Diaries. Normally I would dismiss this out of hand since, well, vampire movies generally suck, but something about this project made me want to share it with you guys.
Vampire Diaries is the first of a planned eight(!) films from indie production outfit Poison Apple Films. It was produced, written by, and stars Phil Nichols, who also did most of the FX work as well. Now that’s the indie spirit! The story follows what happened to Mina and Renfield after Dracula’s demise; from the look of the pics neither of them adjusted too well to being without the caped one.
Through his company Facades FX Nichols also recently worked on Mel House’s Walking Distance, Barry Tubb’s Javelina and one of Foy’s favorite films of all time,...
