Fans of Eugène Lourié—the man behind The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms—got a surprise when they settled in for his new film about a giant cyborg—along with the expected sci-fi thrills they found the melancholy tale of a dying man reincarnated as a giant robot, a space-age Frankenstein monster draped in Dracula’s cloak. Ross Martin plays the guinea pig doomed to live a bionic life and Otto Kruger is the scientist who built him. Van Cleave’s piano-only score reinforces the grim atmosphere.

Katie Couric has issued an official statement apologizing for what she calls an instance of "misleading" editing in her new documentary Under the Gun.
"As Executive Producer of Under the Gun, a documentary film that explores the epidemic of gun violence, I take responsibility for a decision that misrepresented an exchange I had with members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League (Vcdl)," Couric, responding to uproar from several pro-gun organizations, said in a statement on the documentary's website.

This Wednesday, March 23rd, the folks at MondoTees will release their oldest score yet: Nathan Van Cleave’s music for Byron Haskin’s Robinson Crusoe on Mars.
The records will be limited to 1000 copies, set you back $30 (plus shipping) and feature artwork by We Buy Your Kids. Follow MondoTees on Twitter to find out when the orders will go live.
You can listen to a sample of the score below:
For a significant portion of the film – as Kit explores the terrain with no other life to communicate with (except for his monkey, Mona) – Nathan Van Cleave’s music takes center stage. Van Cleave’s themes are simultaneously foreboding and triumphant. Only a few short years before Planet of the Apes took science fiction to its inevitable dystopian ends, the soundtrack to Robinson Crusoe on Mars is a pure patriotic time capsule; the sounds of a retro-future when science fiction...

"Game Of Thrones" Season 5 Finale Spoilers
As has been confirmed, Lena Headey used a body double during filming of her famous 'walk of atonement' in the fifth season finale of HBO's "Game of Thrones" last weekend.
Headey, who was pregnant at the time and opted out of the walk "for several reasons", did all the close up shots of Cersei's face. However, the shots from the back and the longer shots of her from the front (basically wherever you could see nipples) used Headey's head digitally mapped onto a body double's body.
EW has now gotten in touch with that body double, also known as actress Rebecca Van Cleave who beat out over 1,000 hopefuls for the part. Asked about the experience of filming the scene, Van Cleave says:
"It was one of the scariest, most wonderful, most gratifying experiences I could have imagined. I never in a million years would...

Los Angeles (Reuters) - Are they up to their old tricks again?
Tareq Salahi and his wife Michaele Salahi, reality TV stars who gained infamy as the so-called White House gate crashers, grabbed headlines on Wednesday when he reported his wife was abducted, and she later contacted law enforcement officials to say she was fine and didn't want him to know her whereabouts.
A spokeswoman for the rock band Journey said Michaele and the group's guitarist Neal Schon were together in Memphis for a concert. "Nobody kidnapped her," said the spokeswoman.
The FBI and law enforcement officials are investigating.
The mix-up, if that is what it was, began late Tuesday when Tareq Salahi contacted local authorities claiming Michaele was missing and had left their house without taking any belongings. He believed she was abducted, according to media reports.
But in a news conference outside the Salahi residence on Wednesday afternoon,...

Blu-ray Rating: 5.0/5.0
Airing from Fall 1963 to Spring 1964, the fifth season of “The Twilight Zone” was the last of this amazing show. You can now own all 156 episodes plus Days of special features in five of the best TV-on-Blu-ray sets that have ever been produced. And, while the fourth season was a bit of a dip in quality (the show couldn’t quite survive the stretch to an hour long), the fifth marked a return to form. Some of your favorite episodes in the history of “The Twilight Zone” are in this set. Notable episodes include “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,...

Chicago – I know that we’re starting to sound like a broken record here. If you check our coverage of the previous three season sets of “The Twilight Zone,” you’ll see that they’re among the highest-praised ever covered on this site. Guess what? The fourth season doesn’t break the pattern.
Blu-ray Rating: 5.0/5.0
I will say this — the fourth season of “The Twilight Zone” was definitely not the program’s best. Oh, there are certainly some highlights but, taken as a whole, it’s not as strong as any of the first three seasons. There’s your bit of criticism. It will end here.
Season four ran from January to May of 1963 and definitely features a few highlights, if not as many as previous seasons. Notable episodes include “He’s Alive,” “Mute,” and “No Time Like the Past.” One may immediately notice that this season features half the...
