During the most recent season of MTV’s competition program “The Challenge,” subtitled “Spies, Lies & Allies,” the competitors initially had to work in pairs, despite major language barriers among them.
In these games, veteran players from past seasons of “The Challenge” compete against vets of other series including “Survivor,” “Big Brother” and “Love Island” from around the world. Everyone must speak at least a little English, casting director Skye Topic says, or it wouldn’t be fair, since host T.J. Lavin gives them the rules of each challenge in English. Four more network pilots have landed casting directors, Backstage has learned. CBS’ new comedy pilot “Bad Teacher” will be cast by Bruce H. Newberg. Based on the 2011 Cameron Diaz film of the same name, the pilot is written and executive-produced by Hilary Winston (“Community”) and also executive-produced by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who were behind the film. The show focuses on a foul-mouthed divorcée who lands a job as a teacher because she wants to scout for a new husband. The casting for the network’s newest drama pilot, “The Ordained,” will be handled by Risa Bramon Garcia, with New York casting controlled by Bernard Telsey. There are plans to begin shooting in March in New York. Several ABC comedy pilots picked up casting directors this week, Back Stage confirmed."American Judy," from ABC Studios, will star "Arrested Development" alum Judy Greer as a newly wed city girl who moves to a small town, where she has to deal with step-children, a mother-in-law, and the town sheriff, who happens to be her husband's ex-wife. It will be cast by Susan Vash ahead of a mid-March shoot. Greer has recently garnered praise for her supporting role in the Oscar-nominated film "The Descendants."
