- Roger Vercel was born on January 8, 1894 in Le Mans, France. He was a writer, known for Remorques (1941), Du Guesclin (1949) and Le grand pavois (1954). He died on February 26, 1957 in Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhône, France.
- Professor of literature, he won the Goncourt prize in 1934 for Capitaine Conan which was inspired by him being officer in WWI in that Armée d'Orient.
