From the kitchen to corruption, The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White is now being eyed for The Seven Five, a movie based on the 2014 documentary of the same name to be directed by Ben Stiller.
While the role that White is apparently circling for The Seven Five has yet to be revealed, it was reported back in 2020 that the likes of Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were linked to play Michael Dowd, who was considered the “ringleader” of a net of corruption that ran through the New York City police department in the 1980s. One could assume that neither of these casting decisions worked out or that White could be in talks for the role of Patrick Eugene McKenna, another key player in the NYPD.
Regardless of Jeremy Allen White’s role at this time, this isn’t the first attempt to get the documentary turned into a narrative. An...

Get your tissues ready: “The Iron Claw” will be available to stream on Max on May 10.
The A24 biographical sports drama debuted in theaters on Dec. 22 and received critical acclaim. Starring Zac Efron, Sean Durkin’s latest feature is based on the Von Erich wrestling dynasty, who suffered a series of tragic deaths in the family. Efron plays Kevin Von Erich, alongside Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich, Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich and Holt McCallany as patriarch Fritz Von Erich. Lily James plays Kevin’s wife Pam Adkisson and Maura Tierney plays matriarch Doris Von Erich.
Efron famously packed on pounds of muscle to portray the professional wrestler. “That necessity to be perfect — it became an obsession,” he told Variety for his December cover story. “It was a singular focus for months. And your life goes out the window during prep.

In the modern era of cinema, the superhero genre of movies has taken the box office by storm. These movies attracted a lot of attention from fans as we witnessed throughout the last decade, and massive comic franchises like Marvel and DC making their own cinematic universes was also a big reason for the same.

A lot of A-listers have already made their debut in the genre over the last few years. Jeremy Allen White once also had a chance to be a part of a major superhero movie but the actor allegedly missed out on the opportunity due to his attitude issues.

Jeremy Allen White is looking to go from “The Bear” to the Boss, as the actor is in talks to play Bruce Springsteen in an upcoming narrative feature about the making of his 1982 album “Nebraska,” Variety has confirmed.
No deals have been finalized, but Scott Cooper is circling to write and direct the movie, titled “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” which hails from Eric Robinson and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein of the Gotham Group. A24 is also in talks to board the project. Scott Stuber, in his first major film project since leaving his post as head of film at Netflix, has joined as a producer.
The film is an adaptation of Warren Zanes’ 2023 book “Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.” It will follow Springsteen and the journey of making his sixth studio album, a dark, stripped-down collection of songs that marked a new artistic direction from the “Born to Run” rocker.

If you’re into wrestling or just love a good story, The Iron Claw gives you both. It’s exciting and emotional, keeping you hooked from start to finish. The film is based on the triumphs and tragedies of The Von Erich brothers as they strive to make a name for themselves in the world of wrestling.
Zac Efron with The Iron Claw co-stars Harris Dickinson, Stanley Simons, and Jeremy Allen White
The film is exceptionally touching and features amazing performances from its actors. Still, The Iron Claw was overlooked by the Oscars, receiving zero nods.
Not only was it shut out of the Oscars, but the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes did the same. Despite fan disappointment, its lead actor, Jeremy White expresses contentment and no regrets.

“The Sadness Will Last Forever”: The life of wrestler Kevin Von Erich could probably be described by the iconic final words of Vincent Van Gogh. Sean Darkin’s Von Erich biopic, titled The Iron Claw, is the depiction of that story, which is inarguably one of the saddest possible ones to grace cinema in recent years. My head still hurts thanks to the amount of tears the movie made me shed during its final ten minutes, which only indicates that Darkin has nailed it—and so has the cast, led by an impeccable Zac Efron as Kevin, in his career-best performance. We’re going to dissect, discuss, and attempt to find the answer to the biggest question this movie floats, regarding the existence of a curse in the ill-fated Texas-based family, and hopefully find some solace by the end of the article.

Sadly, even the claws are not enough to prey on the Oscar nominations. Robbed of even a single Oscar nomination, The Iron Claw can relate to it. An inspiring story of the real-life Von Erich brothers, The Iron Claw became fans’ favorite without a doubt. Released on December 22, 2023, the movie is an ambitious and forceful account of the top-gear wrestlers of the early 1980s.
The movie has already been nominated for the National Board of Review Award for Best Ensemble. However, the actors and the crew seem to be unhappy because of not getting the most prestigious award which they, as well as their fans, think that they rightfully deserved.

After scoring big at such recent award shows as the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards, FX’s The Bear has continued down the path of awards glory, claiming six statuettes at the 2023 Primetime Emmys.
At the ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday night, the beloved Chicago restaurant-world comedy scored the prizes for Outstanding Comedy Series, Comedy Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Comedy Supporting Actress (Ayo Edebiri) and Comedy Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), as well as the awards for Comedy Writing and Directing. With creator Christopher Storer, the recipient of the latter two awards, absent from tonight’s ceremony, EP-actor (and real-world chef) Matty Matheson stepped up to accept the Comedy Series prize on behalf of the team.
“What’s good? I just want to thank restaurants as a whole, hospitality as a whole,” said Matheson, before being kissed passionately on the mouth by excited co-star Moss-Bachrach.

Jeremy Allen White On Whether He’ll Ever Enter WWE Ring After Playing Kerry Von Erich In ‘Iron Claw’
Jeremy Allen White has now played a WWE wrestler on the big screen, but would he ever step into the ring in real life?
He weighed in backstage at the 75th Emmy Awards, telling reporters: “I don’t know. I would need so much warning if that’s something they would want me to do.”
White would rule out the idea though, if he got to reunite with his onscreen brothers, Zac Efron and Harris Dickinson in the process. He continued, “I’d be so excited to, but only if Zac and Harris were there with me and if I had time to prepare.”
White won his first Emmy Award on Monday night for his role in FX’s The Bear. Speaking about the success of the series, which has been sweeping awards season, the actor said he was only ever hoping to touch the restaurant industry through this work.

One of the most fascinating elements of HBO's classic TV series "The Sopranos" is that the supernatural exists.
It's not at the forefront. Not really. It lingers in the margins, ready to influence, entice, and disturb, but it never takes center stage. The ghosts of dead characters appear for brief moments. Children communicate with a dead parent. Impossible revelations come about from visions seen in dreams. And, of course, there's the episode where Tony Soprano is shot, clings to life, and finds himself wandering through purgatory. These scenes are frequently dismissed as dreams, figments of the imagination, flights of fancy, and a side effect of being raised Catholic. No one stops to linger on them. No one wants to admit they experienced them. That couldn't have actually happened, right? But it did. We, the audience, saw it. We know it's real,...

One funny aspect of particularly huge athletes is just how small they can make the average person look. Most people don't think of Jimmy Fallon as short, for instance, but he sure looks tiny when he's standing next to Shaquille O'Neale. Even famously big, tough guys can still look small when you place an even bigger, tougher guy next to them, such as when Vin Diesel had to stand next to Dwayne Johnson in multiple "Fast and Furious" movies. Director Justin Lin tried to use forced perspective to make them look equally matched in "Fast & Furious 6," but it didn't fool anyone.
A similar dynamic played out in the '80s between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kerry Von Erich, the wrestler played by Jeremy Allen White in "The Iron Claw." Wrestling hall-of-famer Cody Rhodes told WWE the famously huge Schwarzenegger didn't want to take a picture with Von Erich because he knew he'd look unimpressive in comparison.

In the small group of celebrities who have tried out professional wrestling, most have been absolute flops: New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor main eventing WrestleMania XI was an embarrassment, while David Arquette winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship remains one of the worst stunts in pro wrestling history (and that’s saying something). In fairness, Logan Paul is a genuine talent and even Bad Bunny has proven capable in the ring, but they are definitely outliers. Now, one prominent pro wrestling roster may find itself bulking up, as The Iron Claw stars Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White expressed interest in stepping into the squared circle.

This article discusses the real-life story of The Von Erichs and as such could be viewed as containing spoilers for "The Iron Claw."
Sean Durkin's "The Iron Claw" is the tearjerker film of the year, one that I called "emotionally eviscerating" in my review as it takes a folkloric look at the real-life tragedies of the Von Erich wrestling dynasty. The film focuses on Kevin, David, Kerry, and Mike Von Erich throughout the 1980s and early '90s, a decade filled with unimaginable deaths and heartache. Despite this, "The Iron Claw" ends with a bit of optimism, and a cathartic release for Kevin Von Erich, known as "The Last of the Von Erichs." The film ends sometime in the 1990s and given the harrowing true story at the center of the film, non-wrestling fans might be wondering what happened to Kevin Von Erich and the rest of the family in the years that followed.

As a dyed-in-the-wool wrestling fan, Sean Durkin's "The Iron Claw" was one of my most anticipated films of 2023. Based on the real-life story of the Von Erich wrestling dynasty (real last name Adkisson), the film features Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich, Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich (my personal favorite of the Von Erich brothers), Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich, Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich, and Maura Tierney as Doris Adkisson. For wrestling fans, the Von Erich story is the stuff of infamy, a dark moment in the industry's history that weighs heavy on the hearts of multiple generations. Pulling off "The Iron Claw" would be no easy feat for those involved, but the result is one of the best films of 2023.

Review: The Iron Claw is a film that a lot of people in the movie and professional wrestling communities have been looking forward to. Especially after the episode of Dark Side of the Ring on the Von Erich “curse”, fascination with the subject has soared like a Kevin Von Erich flying crossbody. For me, too, having loved professional wrestling since I was a child, and having seen a lot of the Von Erich tragedy play out, I wondered how in the world Sean Durkin could turn this into a story that audiences could enjoy.

The world of professional wrestling is filled with enough tragedy to constitute its own dedicated documentary series about it, but there has never been a story of familial annihilation quite like the Von Erichs. Often compared to the Kennedy family, the Von Erichs were/are a dynasty of wrestling superstars and the subject of unimaginable despair. Telling their story outside of a documentary setting seems an impossible task, but Sean Durkin has done the impossible with "The Iron Claw." While marketed as a biopic, "The Iron Claw" is more like a dramatic retelling of the Von Erich story — a legend retold blow by blow and presented as if it were modern folklore. Exclusive: Deadline has learned that Season 3 of FX/Hulu’s The Bear will commence production in late February-early March.
We caught up with current Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Jeremy Allen White aka young chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto on The Bear. White stars in the new A24 movie The Iron Claw as wrestler Kerry Von Erich aka “The Texas Tornado.” The movie about the tragedy-stricken wrestling Von Erich family opens on December 22. At a time when the middle of the country needs more movies, here’s a sports drama that plays straight to the heartland.

When we last saw Carmy on The Bear, he was locked in a walk-in fridge during the restaurant’s Friends and Family Night, an interlude which White tells us he “hopes” the character escapes from in Season 3. FX/Hulu recently announced a Season 3 of the 13-time Emmy-nominated series.

Jeremy Allen White didn't think it would be "physically possible" to transform into Kerry Von Erich for 'The Iron Claw'.The 32-year-old star features as the Texas Tornado in Sean Durkin's movie about the cursed Von Erich wrestling dynasty and feared that he wouldn't be able to replicate his alter ego's physique for the picture.Speaking during a New York City Q and A for the flick, Jeremy said: "I knew I couldn't get as big as Kerry. I just don't think it was physically possible for me."I'm a pretty little guy, but I tried. I don't think it's possible for any human on the planet."The 'Bear' star continued: "There is this story I love about Schwarzenegger. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kerry were in the same room once, and Kerry popped his shirt off and Arnold Schwarzenegger himself was too nervous to take his shirt off around Kerry.

Jeremy Allen White tried his hand at transforming into famed wrestler Kerry Von Erich, aka the Texas Tornado, for “The Iron Claw” by, well, pumping iron.

With the fall festival circuit firmly in the rearview mirror, many of the most anticipated films of the 2023 fall season have already screened for critics. One of the last films that remained unseen was “The Iron Claw,” Sean Durkin’s new A24 sports drama that tells the story of the Von Erich wrestling family. The film, which stars Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich and Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, premiered in Dallas on Wednesday before screening for critics in Los Angeles on Sunday. And early reactions suggest that A24 could have another hit on its hands.
“The Iron Claw” documents the rapid rise to wrestling superstardom and even quicker fall toward tragedy that befell the Von Erich family. After family patriarch Fritz Von Erich (played by Holt McCallany in the film) built a following as a villainous heel on the wrestling circuit, his sons entered the business in quick succession.

Could professional wrestling be headed back into the Oscars race for the first time since 2008’s The Wrestler? That was one of the questions swirling throughout Dallas last night following the world premiere of The Iron Claw, Sean Durkin’s drama about the tragic rise and fall of the Texas-based Von Erich wrestling family. The film stars Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Stanley Simons, Harris Dickinson, Holt McCallany, Maura Tierney, and Lily James, with possible accolades following the principle cast.
We were lucky enough to attend the world premiere on Wednesday evening, and the mood was electric, particularly because of one important piece of breaking news. Literally moments before curtains lifted on The Iron Claw, news broke about the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, sending the crowd into an uproar. The film had received an interim agreement so that stars Efron, White, Simons, and Dickinson could be on hand for the festivities.

Let’s get back to work. Let’s go.” He added: “Congrats everybody, we did it!”
As the SAG-AFTRA strike went on for over 118 days, it was both a very pleasing yet simultaneously shocking news to a lot of actors. Leaning into the conversation, Efron’s co-star Harris Dickinson expressed his own astonishment and asked the outlet: “Is it true? As of when?”

Jeremy Allen White expressed confusion to GQ magazine over the current trajectory Hollywood has laid out for its rising stars. It appears that whenever a young actor is hitting the pop culture zeitgeist, he or she is immediately snatched up by Marvel or DC and put in a superhero movie universe. It happened to Riz Ahmed, who went from “The Night Of” Emmy winner to “Venom” villain. White told the publication that when they first met it was Ahmed who asked him, “When are you going to do a Marvel thing?”
White, whose career has exploded over the last couple years thanks to his award-winning turn on FX’s “The Bear,” revealed to GQ that he did actually have a meeting for a major Hollywood tentpole, but it didn’t go smoothly.

"The Iron Claw" stars Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White as two members of one of the most famous (or infamous) wrestling families of all time: the Von Erichs. Led by their fierce father, the Von Erich brothers became mainstays of the professional wrestling world in the heyday of the 1980s, but their professional successes were marred by an enormous number of personal tragedies, leading to rumors that they were somehow cursed. In real life, their stories seem to have more mundane explanations, but whatever the cause, the tragedies were devastating nonetheless.
Content warning: The following contains mentions of drug use, eating disorders, and suicide.
The Von Erich Curse
Because of the high number of shocking tragedies and early deaths that befell the family - and the highly dramatic nature of the professional wrestling world - rumors have abounded that there is a "curse" on the Von Erichs that led to their demise.

A24’s trailer for the wrestling drama The Iron Claw opens with Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich describing his family. “Ever since I was a child, people said my family was cursed. Mom tried to protect us with God. Pop tried to protect us with wrestling. He said if we were the toughest, strongest, nothing would ever hurt us. I believed it. We all did,” explains Efron as Kevin.
The Iron Claw lays out the true story of the Von Erich brothers, siblings who found success in the wrestling ring. In addition to a buffed-up Zac Efron, the cast includes Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich, Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich, Maura Tierney as Doris, Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich, and Lily James as Pam.

Not all sports stories have a happy ending. On Oct. 11, A24 released the trailer for its upcoming wrestling drama "The Iron Claw," inspired by the real-life wrestling siblings the Von Erichs. In the film, Jeremy Allen White plays Kerry Von Erich, the most famous member of the family; Zac Efron stars as Kevin, and Harris Dickinson plays their brother David. The tense trailer for the '80s-set drama previews some of the unbelievable heartache and loss the family went through - leading to a legend that they were "cursed."
In real life, the family's patriarch, Jack Adkisson (played by Holt McCallany), used the name Fritz Von Erich as his wrestling gimmick when he first broke into the sport in the 1950s. Five of his six children would go on to become professional wrestlers as well. When Fritz died in 1997, five of his six sons had died before him; only Kevin was still alive.

For months now, we've been seeing paparazzi photos of Zac Efron looking extremely beefy with a silly haircut, and hearing reports about "The Bear" star Jeremy Allen White's "gross" diet in preparation for the new A24 film, "The Iron Claw." For outsiders looking in, "The Iron Claw" looks like a wrestling drama, and many are thrilled to see the pair of actors step into the squared circle of muscle ballet. However, the average Joe's opinion of wrestling is rooted in the heyday of Hulkamania, the Attitude Era of the late '90s, or through crossover stars who have since become actors. Here's the thing: It's really cool that Allen and Efron are going to be in a wrestling movie, but if you're anticipating something like the extremely fun "Fighting With My Family" starring Florence Pugh or the deeply moving biopic "Cassandro" starring Gael García Bernal ... you're in for a hell of a rude awakening.

This story about Jeremy Allen White first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine. All actor interviews in that issue were conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike began.
Jeremy Allen White has become one of TV’s most beloved figures since last June, when a little show called “The Bear,” about the machinations of an inherited Italian beef sandwich shop, made its quiet debut on FX on Hulu. The eight episodes quickly took hold of viewers in the early summer, becoming endlessly quotable (“corner!”) and debatable (what about those tomato cans?). Before long, White, best known for growing up before our very eyes as Phillip “Lip” Gallagher on Showtime’s “Shameless,” became a household name.
White’s Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, the sensitive, tousled-haired, classically trained chef saddled with the responsibility of overseeing his late brother’s restaurant in Chicago, launched countless think pieces...

The status of films releasing later this year may be subject to change with the whole internal issues that Hollywood is having; however, some of the smaller titles are seemingly safer than others. One of the films that is aiming for a December release date is A24’s The Iron Claw. The film, which stars Zac Efron and The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White, is a biopic based on the story of the wrestling family that became legends in the world of sports entertainment, the Von Erichs. The Iron Claw‘s release schedule is slated around bigger movies, such as Illumination’s animated film, Migration, as well as the higher-profile Warner Bros films Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Color Purple, provided they aren’t delayed like rumors may suggest.
So far, the film is in post-production, which means it is not expected to premiere during the film festival circuit.

The film will debut nationwide on Dec. 22, sharing a release date with a very different kind of family film, Universal and Illumination’s animated comedy “Migration.” Jason Momoa’s superhero sequel “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” (Dec. 20) is expected to hit the big screen a few days prior, while the glitzy musical adaptation of “The Color Purple” (Dec. 25) is slated to arrive a little later.
Despite its prime awards season release, “The Iron Claw” is currently in post-production and isn’t expected to make the rounds at film festivals.
Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) wrote and directed “The Iron Claw,” which tells the tragic, true story of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of professional wrestlers who made history in the intensely competitive sport in the early 1980s. The...

Actors often refer to their bodies and voices as "their instrument," and go to great lengths to completely transform themselves to more accurately portray a character. Sometimes that transformation involves heavy use of prosthetics, while other times, actors will completely rebuild their bodies to play a role. These extreme bodily transformations are continued subjects of debate, with actors like Brendan Fraser admitting that the extremes he went through to achieve his chiseled appearance in "George of the Jungle" legitimately messed with his brain chemistry, while Kumail Nanjiani was very candid about the way the public responded to his superhero transformation before Marvel's "Eternals."
There are so many intersections to consider when analyzing the ethics of an actor's physical overhaul, but if there's one thing to take solace in, it's that actors are being far more transparent about what their process is like than ever before. It is unrealistic for us...

Somehow, food keeps becoming a focus amid Jeremy Allen White’s recent projects.
The star of FX’s The Bear, returning next month for season two, spoke to Esquire in an interview published online Monday about his role as the late real-life wrestler Kerry Von Erich in the upcoming A24 feature The Iron Claw. The Sean Durkin-directed film, which also stars Zac Efron, Lily James, Harris Dickinson and Holt McCallany, tells the fact-based story of Kevin Von Erich (Efron) and the rest of his family’s dynasty of professional wrestlers that began in the 1960s.
When asked to describe his process for achieving a bulkier physique for the role in the movie that does not yet have an announced release date, White admitted that he was continuously consuming calories. “Eating all the time — like, never stopping,” he said. “In the morning, I would have waffles, almond butter. In the middle of the day,...

Jeremy Allen White wanted to say “no, chef” when it came to consuming his mega-meals ahead of wrestling biopic “The Iron Claw.”
White stars as wrestler Kerry Von Erich, aka the Texas Tornado, in the upcoming A24 film. Zac Efron plays the lead role of titular WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Von Erich, with Harris Dickinson, Lily James, Holt McCallany, and Maura Tierney also appearing in Sean Durkin’s film charting the wrestling dynasty of the Von Erich family.
To beef up to play the Texas Tornado, White said he was committed to a “gross” high-protein diet.
“[I was] eating all the time. Like, never stopping,” the “Bear” star told Esquire. “In the morning, I would have waffles, almond butter. In the middle of the day, I was eating turkey patties and avocado all the time. It’s really just gross. You’re trying to consume as much as you possibly can,...
