The younger member of the 1960s British duo
Peter and Gordon, their
rendition of "A World Without Love" became the first
John Lennon-
Paul McCartney composition--not recorded by
The Beatles--to reach #1 on the charts (June 1964). Another Lennon-McCartney song, "Nobody I Know", followed soon after. Their 1966 hit release "Woman" was written by McCartney under the pseudonym, "Bernard Webb", as McCartney was eager to see if he could score a hit song without the Lennon-McCartney names attached.
