The Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800, is “wholeheartedly” urging its members to authorize a strike against film and TV production companies all across the country. The leadership of all three IATSE locals with national jurisdiction – the Art Directors Guild, the International Cinematographers Guild and the Editors Guild – have now gone on record recommending that their members authorize a strike in voting that begins on Friday.
Editors Guild Urges Members To “Overwhelmingly” Approve IATSE Strike Authorization
A resolution approved by the Art Directors Guild’s board of directors states:
Whereas, the IATSE International Bargaining Committee has asked its membership to vote to authorize a strike; and
Whereas, the AMPTP has refused to consider our proposals for a living wage, reasonable rest, and sustainable benefits; and
Whereas, the successful acquisition of such a contract will greatly benefit our membership, our future membership, and ensure dignity at the sunset of all of our...

In a discussion that ranged from Steve King's laughable "cantaloupe" comment, to conservative reactions to Obama's speech following the Trayvon Martin verdict, to what Dr. King called "the most segregated hour", Bill Maher's "Real Time" panel on Friday seemed to agree that racism remains one the country's deepest problems.
Of course, Maher had his own sardonic way of putting a point on the matter. Comparing similar statements from both Obama and Bill O'Reilly about the crime rate among young African-American men, Maher blasted O'Reilly and the Gop for not listening to what Obama actually says. "They're saying the same thing. As if they don't hear what Obama says because they know what he's thinking. They know he's thinking 'kill whitey.'"
The segment was highlighted by thoughtful points on racism in the church from Rev. Jim Wallis and the challenges faced by immigrants in this country from author Reza Aslan.

"Thou shalt not overspend" is rapidly becoming a tenet of the evangelical belief system, rivaling social issues like gay marriage. Can the gospel of thrift save our economy?
The priorities of white evangelical Christians, about 60 million strong, have driven the culture wars for decades. It was they who formed the Moral Majority in the 1970s, which helped elect Ronald Reagan in a landslide in 1980. And it was their children-some of them, anyway-who strayed from their parents' interpretations of faith and helped elect Barack Obama in 2008. Politically active, evangelicals have fought with varying degrees of success against abortion, same-sex marriage, and the teaching of evolution in public schools.
