Denise DuBarry Hay, a staunch advocate of the film industry in the Coachella Valley, died Saturday at UCLA Medical Center after battling a deadly fungus. She was 63 and her death was confirmed by her husband, Bill Hay.
DuBarry Hay began her career as an actress, apppearing in the TV series Black Sheep Squadron and CHiPs, as well as the film “Being There.”
But the business world was calling, and in 1990 she co-founded Thane International, a global direct response company, with husband, Bill Hay. The company was formed after Denise produced an infomercial in 1987 for a video, “Play the Piano Overnight.” The video became the basis for an “Overnight Music” series for Thane.
After selling Thane International, the Hays started Kaswit, Inc., an incubator for home and health products, including the book “Don Sullivan’s Secrets to Training the Perfect Dog” and training accessories.

“The Wife” director Björn Runge has signed on to direct the indie feature “Remember Me.”
Runge will direct from a script written by Stephen Glantz, which is based on the true story of Abe and Regina Tauber, who fell in love at a young age, were separated by the German invasion of Poland, and their journey, thereafter, is an unbelievable tale of survival.
The pic will be produced by Kim Waltrip of Wonderstar Productions, Mark R. Harris of the Harris Company, and Patti Gribow.
“‘Remember Me’ is a script with a very strong emotional force. It’s a story about love and it’s a story about survival under severe circumstances,” said Runge. “As a director, it’s a true privilege to be a part of this upcoming film. “Mumbet” will be directed by Alethea Root (“Part Time Fabulous”) and produced by Kim Waltrip (“Hit & Run”) of Wonderstar Productions and Root of Truth 13 Productions.
The script, written by Stephen Glantz (“Wunderkinder”) is based on the book “A Free Woman on God’s Earth” by Jana Laiz and Ann-Elizabeth Barnes. Casting has not been announced.

The last time we saw Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard together on the big screen was for 2010.s lackluster .When in Rome.. Now, the real-life sweethearts team up for .Hit and Run. and I can tell you that this romantic car chase comedy is much better than their previous pairing.
The film draws you in right from the very beginning when Annie (Bell) and Charlie (Shepard) are canoodling on the bed. We get to meet the main characters in their most intimate moment. Charlie is trying to sooth his fiancée, Annie, because she is extremely nervous. She.s on her way to meeting her boss at a local college, Debby Kreeger, played by the scene stealing Kristin Chenoweth.
There are indeed many scene stealers in the movie. Among them is Tom Arnold as the bumbling U.S. Marshal Randy Anderson. He.s there to protect Charlie, who we learn, is within the witness protection program.

So the last time I sat down with Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, it was for "When in Rome." I can guarantee you that their new film "Hit and Run" is much, much better! Shepard wrote and co-directed the film (David Palmer was the other director), and his true-life fiancée, Kristen Bell, stars as his love interest. "Hit and Run" is a funny romantic car chase comedy, but above all, I enjoyed the characters.
In this interview, we talked about:
*** Why make "Hit and Run?"
*** Executive producer Jim Casey and Producer Kim Waltrip are from my hometown of Palm Springs, so we talked about their involvement in the film
*** My two favorite scenes in the film -- the close your eyes scene, and the first car chase scene
*** What do they want the moviegoers to take away from the film?...

If you aren’t familiar with Dax Shepard beyond Parenthood, and especially if you haven’t caught some of his more recent indie work, like The Freebie, you may be surprised by just how talented he is. Now, I don’t know if Hit and Run, the upcoming title that he wrote, co-directed, and stars in, is a surefire winner, but it looks like a lot of fun.
Coming to a theater near you on August 24th, Hit and Run is an action-comedy starring Shepard as a man whose past catches up to him when he least expects it… sort of. Unbeknownst to his fiancé (Kristen Bell), Charlie (Shepard) is in the witness protection program, and everything is about the life she thinks she’s in is about to start falling apart.
