Directed by first time feature director Matthew J. Saville, the movie will play at Palm Springs this week and has already screened at festivals including Tallinn, Edinburgh, Munich and Brisbane.
Rampling plays Ruth, a worldly former war correspondent now bored in retirement with a drinking problem and a newly fractured leg. New York-based Greenwich Entertainment has taken U.S. rights to “The Bookshop,” directed by Isabel Coixet (“My Life Without Me,” “Elegy”), one of Spain’s most international auteurs. ”The Bookshop” is sold by Thierry Wase-Bailey’s U.K.-based Celsius Entertainment.
Greenwich Entertainment was founded last year by veteran arthouse distributor Ed Arentz, formerly managing director of Music Box Films.
“It’s a wonderful film with a significant potential in the U.S.,” Arentz said enthusiastically. He added: “The film is the film and now it’s up to us to release it properly, to find a good slot and encourage the exhibitors to support it. If all goes well, the release could do very well.”
Coixet’s twelfth feature, “The Bookshop” is produced by Spain’s A Contracorriente Films and Diagonal TV, the U.K.’s Zephyr Films and Germany’s One Two Films. It stars Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson and Bill Nighy.

Swedish start-up Cinezen have set up the world’s first blockchain video-on-demand.
Several sales agents including Denmark’s Level K and the UK’s Celsius Entertainment have signed on with Swedish start-up Cinezen for the world’s first blockchain video-on-demand (Bvod) distribution model.
Cinezen describes the worldwide Bvod agreements as similar to licensing for transactional video-on-demand (Tvod), except that consumers pay for the content with Ethereum, the world’s second largest crypto-currency after Bitcoin.
The system does not require invoicing and royalty reporting as every content provider is part of a blockchain network and has direct access to transparent transaction data. In the second phase, consumers will be able to use credit cards to make payments, but transactions will be converted into crypto-currency so the transparency will remain.

UK sales outfit Celsius Entertainment has appointed former Independent director of sales and acquisitions Calum Gray as head of sales.
Gray rejoins Thierry Wase-Bailey’s Celsius after starting out at the company as a sales co-ordinator.
Whilst at Independent Gray sold titles including Origin Pictures’ family-comedy What We Did On Our Holiday, David Mackenzie’s acclaimed prison drama Starred Up, Sundance Audience Award winner Metro Manila, and Lynne Ramsay’s Cannes competition drama We Need To Talk About Kevin.
Prior to Independent he was head of sales and acquisitions for Mercury Media, the London-based documentary specialist.

Gray rejoins Thierry Wase-Bailey’s Celsius after starting out at the company as a sales co-ordinator.
Whilst at Independent Gray sold titles including Origin Pictures’ family-comedy What We Did On Our Holiday, David Mackenzie’s acclaimed prison drama Starred Up, Sundance Audience Award winner Metro Manila, and Lynne Ramsay’s Cannes competition drama We Need To Talk About Kevin.
Prior to Independent he was head of sales and acquisitions for Mercury Media, the London-based documentary specialist.
Celsius’ slate includes Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood thriller Into the Forest, Alan Cumming drama Any Day Now and comedy-romance The First Time.
