[[tmz:video id="0_8i24gxp6"]] A cyclist riding in New Orleans got hit by a stray bullet from a shooting nearby ... and the whole thing was caught on video. Christopher Weiss was cruising along with his cycling club in Nola, when all of a sudden he shrieked in pain and had to pull over. As it turns out ... he'd been shot. One of his fellow riders caught the entire encounter on their mounted bike camera, as another attended to his wound.

One of the lesser known DC characters that will be featured in Suicide Squad next year is Slipknot, played by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actor Adam Beach. As the master of ropes, Slipknot, a.k.a. Christopher Weiss, will be one of the many criminals Amanda Waller recruits to join her team of operatives. Although he’s not as famous as teammates like Deadshot and Harley Quinn, Beach assures fans that Slipknot will play a key role in the 2016 blockbuster. When asked how faithful this version of Slipknot is compared to the one in the comics, Beach gave a rundown to Rama’s Screen of what the rope-obsessed assassin is capable of, and said that he’s just as dangerous as the movie’s worst killers in certain situations. In Beach’s words: My version is basically a guy who’s just ...

Happy August, dear readers. We’re in the last month of the summer movie season, and the big releases are starting to taper off. But there are always big movies to look forward to, and this week’s Trailer Trashin’ brings you my thoughts on our first look at the second of next year’s DC Comics movies – David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
Premise: A secret government agency run by high-ranking official Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) creates the “Suicide Squad,” a task force comprised of imprisoned supervillains. The squad is assigned to carry out dangerous missions in exchange for shorter prison sentences.
My take: No preamble this time, let’s just dive in.
0:01-0:22: Our first look at Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, the ruthless, high-ranking government official who created and commands the Suicide Squad. Davis is a great actress, and I think she’s going to...

The search for a stolen truck becomes an odyssey of hope and desperation in A Better Life, a fine low-key drama about the plight of an illegal immigrant in modern L.A. from director Chris Weiss. In a major, and welcome, departure from his last film, the first Twilight sequel (!), Weiss, along with screenwriter Eric Eason, tells the deceptively simple story of Carlos (Mexican actor Demian Bichir), an illegal who made the trek across the border with his wife and young son Luis years earlier only to have her abandon them., leaving him to raise the boy alone. Father and now-teenage son barely get by, with the boy, Luis (Jose Julian) attending school and avoiding the temptation of gang life, while Carlos scrapes together money as an assistant to a gardener who has a healthy group of clients. One day his boss tells Carlos he wants to return to Mexico...
