Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 10: “Blue Water”
Written by Eileen Myers and Julie Siege
Directed by Bill Gierhart
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
As the USS Colorado’s blockade and fight against the Us government continues, the desperation of both the locals and the crew of the sub have become increasingly unpredictable and violent. While last week’s visit from the Cinderella Liberty was meant to bring some respite, both in the form of supplies, and in allowing some of the crew to go back home, last week’s events effectively put an end to that in the near future. Now, with Chaplin finding it more difficult to maintain harmony amongst his crew, and Kendal off trying to find Christine, the captain’s resolve would be tested even more strongly than ever before, and this week’s episode took a walk down that path, revisiting the global ramifications...

Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 9: “Cinderella Liberty”
Written by Morenike Balogun
Directed by Lesli Linka Glatter
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
It has been an open secret that the biggest strain on the crew of the USS Colorado has been the inability to go home, or atleast see one’s family members. Last week’s episode explored how this had affected the psyche of Anders, and Sam’s struggle with not seeing Christine has been well documented. All of this made Chaplin’s allowance of one ship carrying family members understandable, as crew morale is crucial, in this particular case even more so. The allowance, however, also opens a weakness for the sub that was previously not present, and this episode explores what happens when someone decides to take advantage of, and exploit, this newfound weakness, delivering a nail biting episode in the process that tests the resolve of several people.

Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 8: “Big Chicken Dinner”
Written by Julie Siege
Directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
The adverse effects that Chaplin’s sudden separation from the Us government has had on the crew of the USS Colorado is not an avenue the writers have been afraid to go down. As the conflict and siege draws on, and the conflict between the islanders and the crew keeps reaching new heights, there were bound to be people affected as a result who may otherwise not have been. While we have seen how people closest to the conflict, such as Kendal and Prosser, have had to alter their expectations as time goes on, how the secondary crew members have been affected by the delay in getting back, especially since they aren’t privy to all the information that someone like Chaplin has, is something the show...

Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 7: “Nuke It Out”
Written by Nick Antosca and Ned Vizzini
Directed by Michael Offer
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
Despite essentially amounting to Last Resort’s version of a standalone, last week’s episode did a lot to advance a few plots, the most important of which was the theft of Captain Chaplin’s firing key. With one of the necessary triggers for launching the nuclear missiles now out of Chaplin’s hands, his leverage is significantly reduced, and all he can do right now against the Us government is bluff, and hope they don’t call him on it. Thus, finding the key and getting it back to Chaplin is practically the only way to guarantee that Us forces don’t take the USS Colorado and its crew out entirely, so it made perfect sense that the hunt for the key formed the main storyline this week,...

The pilot for Last Resort was easily one of the most well-reviewed and highly regarded pilots in quite some time—if not, at least for the 2012-2013 season. It was mentioned in the same breath as being as incredible as the Friday Night Lights and Lost pilots, among others.
But since then, the episodes have meandered and seemed to emphasize plot-points that seemed unimportant over ones that did. (Um. The Us nuked Pakistan… should we really care about the Seal flirting with the local bartender.)
The most recent episode, Skeleton Crew, helped address some of the issues and (somewhat) gets the ship back on track to being the incredibly high-quality television that we expect from co-creator Shawn Ryan (The Shield, Terriers and The Chicago Code.)
Here are three things that Skeleton Crew did right, that other episodes hadn’t:
We saw the fall-out from the annihilation of another country. Pakistan...

Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 5: “Skeleton Crew”
Written by David Wiener
Directed by Michael Offer
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
The tensions between the Us Government and the USS Colorado have been steadily increasing since the series premiere. With the perimeter around the island firmly set, and Chaplin seemingly ready to fire nuclear missiles at any moment, direct seizure of the sub has not been an option, though not for lack of trying. This has left the government trying other, indirect methods to get to the crew and submarine, such as using Paul Wells to get to Xo Sam through Christine or issuing an order to the crew to arrest the top brass on the sub as war criminals. But with the slow movement or outright failure on these fronts, a direct meeting between Curry and Chaplin was inevitable and anticipated, and this episode delivers, once again proving...

Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 4: “Voluntold”
Written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman
Directed by Steven DePaul
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
Ever since the premiere of Last Resort, the issues and factors that have affected the USS Colorado have all happened in quick succession. In the span of a week, the submarine’s crew have found themselves going from respectable members of American society to international criminals, caught between a rock and a hard place, and going up against an adversary who is not only much more powerful, but whose orders they unquestioningly obeyed until very recently. The death of Redman at the hands of Serrat has only served to heighten the tension, so a boiling point spillover was inevitable, and the Us government’s attempts to accelerate the process not exactly helping. This episode sees some of the effects on a few characters who have been...

"Last Resort" has another famous face in its cast - "Hostel" star Jay Hernandez - whose role heats up tonight on the ABC drama.
The actor, who made his debut in the show during Episode 2 as Paul Wells, an attorney and "friend" to Christine Kendal (Jessy Schram), returns Thursday. He's back to continue his attempt to help the government get some leverage over Colorado Xo Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman), second in command of the rogue Navy submarine crew, through the military man's wife.
But the former "Crazy/Beautiful" star told AccessHollywood.com that all is not as it seems.

"Last Resort," ABC's riveting new political thriller about the renegade military submarine crew has taught us that no one is safe -- even those oceans away from the USS Colorado and its nuclear warheads.
That includes Christine Kendal (Jessy Schram), wife of the Colorado's Xo Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman). She might be the best weapon the U.S. government has against Sam and his crew -- if they can break her.
And Paul Wells (Jay Hernandez), Sam's traitorous friend, will do his best. See him make another move in the conspirators' psychological scheme in the clip below for Thursday's (Oct. 18) new episode, 'Voluntold,' and tell us -- do you think Christine will betray her husband in the end?

After two episodes of Last Resort, I have to commend creators Shawn Ryan and Karl Gajdusek for incorporating strong women character arcs into the story. In most military series, the “man’s” story is always the dominant one. Last Resort offers something different through the characters of Christine (Jessy Schram), Kylie Sinclair (Autumn Reeser) and Lieutenant Grace Shepard (Daisy Betts).
Christine may be the wife of Xo Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman), but she’s more than just a housewife. She’s the person the government has to break in order to get to Sam. They also had to call in additional support from Paul Wells, a purported old friend of Sam’s, so that he could try to weasel his way into her life. Although Christine and Sam are not together, you really get a sense of their love based on how Christine responds to the government interrogation.

I don't know about you, but I have a new TV obsession and it is called Last Resort! ABC has a surefire hit on its hands with this very unique and intense drama. I guarantee you the words Last Resort won't be running silent or running deep tomorrow. The one thing I'm waiting for the most here is to see how they turn this great pilot into an even greater series. Thanks to this official description for next week's Last Resort, and the images above, we have some idea as the crew of the Colorado take their battle topside.
"Blue on Blue" - More than 20 warships are closing on the 200-mile perimeter that Marcus Chaplin declared as a no man's land around the island. And as Xo Sam Kendal is drawn into a battle on the ground to keep them alive, Prosser confronts Marcus about something personal to him that...

Hostel star Jay Hernandez has joined new ABC drama Last Resort. The thriller - from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan - tells the story of a nuclear sub crew who go rogue after refusing to fire their missiles on Pakistan. Hernandez will appear in eight episodes as Paul Wells, Entertainment Weekly reports. Charming and handsome, Wells will complicate the relationship between the sub's Xo Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) and his estranged wife (Jessy Schram). In addition to his (more)...

"Law & Order: Svu" has booked Roger Bart, Anna Chlumsky and Raúl Esparza for guest starring roles. The trio will guest star in an episode of Season 14 “Twenty-Five Acts," NBC revealed.
In the episode, Chlumsky will play a best-selling erotic author who accuses a talk show host (Bart) of rape. The detectives discover the author's account of the rape reads just like chapters from her novel. Esparza will play a member of the District Attorney's office.
Other Season 14 guest stars include Adam Baldwin as the interim Special Victims Unit chief and Paget Brewster. Baldwin will appear in the first three episodes of the new season as Capt. Steven Harris, Capt. Donald Cragen's replacement. Look for friction between the new captain and the Svu team. Brewster will play the head of Public Integrity Unit at the District Attorney's office. Her character will handle a case against Capt. Cragen (Dann Florek).

"Last Resort" has cast actor Jay Hernandez ("The Rookie," "World Trade Center") in an eight-episode arc on ABC's new thriller, reports EW.
Hernandez isn't expected to share screentime with Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman, whose renegade nuclear submarine crew has set up camp at a tropical island. Instead, his role as the charismatic Paul Wells will be "testing the loyalty" of Speedman's estranged wife (Jessy Schram).
ABC previously announced the casting of another homefront character: As the Secretary of Defense, "The Shield" vet Jay Karnes is reuniting with "Last Resort" co-creator Shawn Ryan.
"Last Resort" debuts Thursday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. on ABC.

ABC’s sub thriller Last Resort is adding another character. Actor Jay Hernandez (Hostel, Six Degrees) has joined the cast in a significant role on the show.
Hernandez has signed on for an eight-episode arc playing Paul Wells, a handsome and seemingly nice-guy charmer who tests the loyalty of Scott Speedman’s character’s estranged wife in the series (played by Jessy Schram).
The casting comes on the heels of Last Resort adding Jay Karnes, a fan favorite from Last Resort co-creator Shawn Ryan’s FX drama The Shield. Last Resort premieres on ABC on Thursday, Sept. 27.
