- Charlie White was born and raised in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He credits the town for shaping the career that he has had. In the 1920s, Perth Amboy was a town where plays that were bound for Broadway were tried out on audiences. They'd rehearse the play in New York and then bring actors and scenery to Perth Amboy and try it out for a week there. After getting out of the Army, Charlie graduated Rutgers University and then studied under Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater in New York City. Following his dream to Los Angelas he appeared in a number of films before returning to Broadway. - When he retired to Florida, he donated all of his books and acting memorabilia to the Perth Amboy Public Library. They have established the "Ruth White corner" in honor of his sister, also an actress. Among the items donated is the Emmy award Ruth White received in 1964 as Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role by an Actress for her work in a Hallmark Hall of Fame (1951) production of "Little Moon of Alban.".
