Repeated his stage role in "Show Boat" of Frank Schultz in the film version (Show Boat (1936)). He had played this role in the original 1927 production and in the 1932 revival.
With his first wife Eva Puck, he starred in the original 1926 Broadway production of Rodgers and Hart's musical, "The Girl Friend".
