- As a drama student at RADA, he was told by one of his teachers, the actor Peter Barkworth, that, although he had the potential to make a great contribution to the theatre, it would be "perhaps not as an actor". Indeed, Whitemore had almost no acting success at all, but found considerable acclaim as a writer very quickly and decided to concentrate on that.
- He was one of five former students of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to be reunited after a gap of about 20 years for a BBC television documentary of 1977. Susannah York was the other RADA graduate in the film who had achieved fame.
