Just when you thought shelling out for the $1,000 limited edition box set was a splurge, J.K. Rowling has sold the home in which she wrote four of the seven Harry Potter books for over $3.6 million. Now there’s a real fan.
The 19th-century Victorian mansion defied the lackluster Edinburgh housing market and sold after just three short weeks, becoming one of only six properties in the Merchiston area to go for over $3.2 million this year. Rowling resided in the home from 1999 to 2009, initially purchasing the top half of the mansion before later buying out her downstairs neighbor to convert the mansion into a single property.

It may not be Hogwarts, but it carries a pedigree - and a palatial price tag. The Edinburgh house where J.K. Rowling wrote four of her seven Harry Potter novels has been sold for well over $3.6 million. Whitson told the Scotsman newspaper: "This was an iconic house in Edinburgh. … To be honest, it was a refreshing change to the normal house.

J.K. Rowling has sold her house for over £2.25 million. The Edinburgh home where the 'Harry Potter' author wrote four of her best-selling novels has been snapped up after just three weeks on the market, fetching far more than her original asking price. James Whitson, the director of estate agents Rettie & Co. responsible for the sale, said: 'This was an iconic house in Edinburgh and it was a privilege to be entrusted with its sale. 'There is a shortage of quality supply in Edinburgh and that when any property is correctly priced, in a prime location, it will attract significant interest and, in most cases, a buyer.' The author has put the19th-century mansion in Abbotsford Park, Edinburgh, Scotland, up for sale with an asking price of £2.25 million. The property features eight bedrooms, landscaped gardens and many original cornices and fireplaces. Rowling penned at least four of the seven Harry Potter books at the address, but there is little trace of her at the property as she and her family - husband Neil, daughters Jessica and Mackenzie and son David - left two years ago. They are now living at another house on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Estate agent James Whitson told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: 'This house is...
