The current television series Hawaii Five-o is a remake of the first Hawaii Five-o series that aired between 1968 and 1980. At the time, Jack Lord starred in the series as Hawaii Five-o Sergeant John McGarrett, crime fighter extraordinaire for that time period. Now, fast forward to the new and majorly improved Hawaii Five-o and we find that the new series is centered around the now late Commander McGarrett’s son, handsome Hpd Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, played by Alex O’Loughlin, and his equally hunky partner, Hpd Detective Sergeant Danny Williams aka Danno, played by Scott Caan. “Hawaii Five-o” which debuted in 1968, was unique in its departure from the gritty, gray settings of inner city cop shows. It featured exotic beaches, swank hotels, and hip shaking hula dancers. The catchphrase “Book ’em Dano” refers to Steve McGarrett’s direction to Danny Williams each episode once the crook was captured. The original series ended in 1980 after an impressive crime drama run that has only been outdone by “Law and Order”. Instead of ending up as just a quaint rerun on TV land, in 2010, a remake was born, and a plethora of fanfiction stories quickly followed. In

Many questions arose and secrets were revealed on Rosewood Season 2 Episode 2. But all of those secrets and questions could put a person on the path of destruction, whether they realize it or not.
For starters, Villa learned from Rosie that her husband, Eddie, was brutally beaten before his alleged car accident occurred. Eddie made Villa believe he was injured from the wreck, but he was lying to Villa the entire time.
It's likely that Eddie was involved in some type of trouble that caused him bodily harm.
Now I'm beginning to think I didn't know my husband at all.

Even those not so thoroughly ensconced in Canadian politics know who Danny Williams is. He was the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from 2003 to 2010, and while he may not have been the head of the most powerful province, or the richest, or the most influential, or the most culturally significant, he did make a name and a reputation for himself as its leader.
Danny, the simply titled biographical film about Williams, chronicles his pre-political life and his tenure as perhaps the most influential provincial politician in Newfoundland since the quarter-century reign of Joey Smallwood from 1949 to 1972. It’s likely that only real politicos would consider a documentary about retired politician from Canada, but there is a universality to the story that the politically ignorant might appreciate.
Stylistically, Danny doesn’t re-invent the wheel. Interviews with Williams, his family, his friends and his former staff are all inter-cut with B-roll, archival footage,...

Reading travel to Nottingham Forest on Friday knowing a win would take them above their opponents and into the SkyBet Championship playoff places ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.
The Royals come to the City Ground without a win in four matches and an away record of just two points from their last 12, however. Nigel Adkins’s outfit have only gone back to Berkshire with all three points from one of their last five visits to Nottingham.
Hosts Forest meanwhile can temporarily climb a place to fourth with a point or better. Billy Davies’s side are buoyed by a recent victory at East Midlands rivals Leicester City and a battling draw with table toppers Burnley last time out.

Well, that was pretty down and derby, am I right, guys? Sorry, sorry. I'm just making some cheesy jokes in the spirit of "Na Ki'i (Dolls)", a delightful episode that fused fun action with a great sense of camp and the most Catherine Rollins we've seen in a long time.
Are you ready to talk derby with me? Okay, I'm really sorry this time. I swear I've gotten it out of my system (probably).
First things first: I can admit when I am wrong. I had not previously been a huge Catherine fan, but in this episode - with her cool roller derby shorts and hot surveillance moves - she won me over (also, scientists have proven it is medically impossible not to enjoy the presence of someone referring to herself as "Alice Trooper").

The new Hawaii Five-0 (TV) shares a lot with it's namesake classic TV parent, but as it was billed, this isn't your mom's Five-0! After 42 years, the show that coined the term "book'em Danno" returns with a lot more high octane action and flat-out sex appeal. The names may be the same, but the characters couldn't be more different. After the death of his father, Lt. Commander Steven J. McGarrett (Alex O'loughlin) is forced to return home to Oahu, an island he left behind as a teenager, to face a host of old ghosts while searching for the killer. For McGarrett, this is all that is on his radar, and he has little use or interest in making friends. Unfortunately, in order to work his father's case, he's got to work with Honolulu Pd, wherein he comes face-to-gun with a fast talking, island-hating New Jersey transplant, Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan...

New York — Ten years ago, a misunderstanding at a Memorial Day neighborhood cookout turned into a bloody night of gunfire.
Neighbors told police they thought a man named Danny Williams had gotten into the barbecue brawl with two men who were later shot. One died, the other was seriously injured. But police could find no trace of Williams, then a 25-year-old parolee known as D-Knife.

Mai Ka Wa Kahiko: Out of the Past
This week in Hawaii Five-0, we got to see Danny Williams - police officer and protective father take center stage - as a dirty cop he help send to jail turned up on the island in "Mai Ka Wa Kahiko".
I enjoyed the break from Shelburne, Joe White and Wo Fat. It was especially nice to get a glimpse into Danny’s past. Unless you count him being a complete moron at Halloween, which I choose to forget, this was our first real Danny episode of the season.
Opening the case with him knowing the Us Marshall that was killed gave some great foreshadowing of where things were going. Once things got down to "Officer McGuire" (Rick Peterson) picking up Grace I knew Danny was in trouble. Then again, I don’t think I have ever seen Peter Greene (Peterson) in a...

Danny Williams (Scott Caan) is a born and bred New Jersey boy who suddenly finds himself 3,000 miles from home in what he calls a "pineapple infested hell hole." Danny comes from a large, close-knit family. He's got at least two sisters and one younger brother, Matt. His parents are blue-collar, hard working folk and Danny himself is no different. According to his brother, Danny's been a cop since he was nine years old, which stood to reason that when he was old enough, he'd become the real thing. After his soon to be wife, Rachel (Claire Van Der Boom), literally ran into him with her car, he got married and settled down with his new life as husband and father. But some women are just not cut out to be cop's wives, and obviously Rachel fell into this category, because the marriage soured and fell apart, leaving Danny heartbroken. The...

Steven J. McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) was raised on Oahu, soaking up the rich traditions and language of the Hawaiian culture despite the color of his skin. As a kid he excelled at everything, from his scholastic pursuits to sports -- particularly football -- probably in an attempt to gain attention from his workaholic father. Steve's younger sister, Mary Ann (Taryn Manning) is the polar opposite -- trading school work for parties and probably getting more of their parent's attention for simply being a trouble maker. At sixteen, we see the turning point from the Steve that could have been, to the Steve we see today, when his mother is killed by drunk drivers. In realty, his father's investigation into the Yakuza and local leader Hiro Noshimuri resulted in a car bomb that killed his wife. Heeding the message, Steve's father sent Steve and Mary to separate parts of the mainland for safety.

This week’s poetically titled episode brought Criminal Mind: Suspect Behavior to a close. A season of ups and downs that have felt like a "Death by a Thousand Cuts."
I will not be kind about the fact that it committed the unforgivable sin of ending on a cliff hanger, where we will forever wonder if Cooper shot Stahl or if Rawlins shot Griffith. If you have not seen me mention it before, I loathe cliff-hanger endings and find them to be the equivalent of taking your cousin to the prom so you don’t have to take any chances.
Sure, a cliff-hanger was useful before there were things like the internet or DVRs; back when a show ran 22 weeks in the fall and then spent all summer in re-runs. These days they are about as useless as that pen Penelope Garcia holds in her hand while pantomiming that she is typing on a keyboard,...

Hawaii Five-0 initially appealed to me because it appeared to be the perfect replacement for Burn Notice (as they’re both shows about three men and a woman who bend the rules to fight crime) during the period of time that the USA show was off the air. However, now that Burn Notice has returned and Hawaii Five-0 is ten episodes into its run, I seem to find myself enjoying the newcomer much more than I ever would’ve expected at first. Especially when compared to Burn Notice’s most recent offerings - which I’d describe as haphazard at best.
Honestly, I’m not somebody that’s usually drawn to formulaic cop procedurals...but somehow Hawaii Five-0’s formula has really grown on me, even if it is a tiny bit predictable. This week’s offering (‘Hao Kanaka’) was a solid episode that provided a decent story and a...

Check out my review of tonight's Hawaii Five-o, entitled "Mana'o":
This week is not a good week to be Danny Williams. Not when your ex-partner's body turns up in a barbeque pit. However, it's a great week if you're the audience.
You know when his partner's widow Amy (Dollhouse's Dichen Lachman) comes to him, Danny is going to do whatever it takes to help her, and you can likewise bank on Caan giving the performance his all.
You can read the rest at Digital Airwaves. Also, be sure to vote in our poll and tell us what you thought of the episode.

Before I continue I want to thank Peter Lenkov for writing a most brilliant pilot script. Mr. Lenkov managed to put into one single pilot what twelve years of the original Hawaii 5-0 didn’t – a story about McGarrett and how the Five – zero was formed. He made Steve McGarrett, Danny Williams, Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua come alive. We get to see the man behind the myth and he’s not only a hero but he’s likable and very human. My gratitude extends to Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman for recognizing a damn good show when one is presented to them and the folks at CBS for allowing these talented men to bring the whole story to life for the fans of the rebooted Hawaii 5-0.

James MacArthur, "Danno" on the original "Hawaii Five-0," has died.
MacArthur, whose film and TV career spanned more than 40 years, died early Thursday (Oct. 28), his family says. He was 72.
MacArthur was the son of theater legend Helen Hayes and playwright Charles MacArthur and made his professional acting debut while he was still in high school. His early credits include Disney's "Swiss Family Robinson" and "The Light in the Forest" and episodes of TV drama anthologies like "Studio One," in addition to several Broadway plays.
He played a preacher in the 1968 Clint Eastwood western "Hang 'Em High," which was co-written and produced by Leonard Freeman. Freeman created "Hawaii Five-0" that same year and cast MacArthur as Detective Danny Williams, giving him a place in TV history as the object of McGarrett's (Jack Lord) famous catchphrase.

It seems that Hawaii 5-0 (TV) is settling in, as it were, to the weekly routine of catching a case and then catching the bad guy. But, they keep the action taught, at least, as this episode opens with what amounts to a car jacking on steroids. And honestly, this episode also served as a reminder that you can apparently do anything with an iPhone. We meet ex-nsa specialist Roland Lowry (Scott Cohen), waking his kid, Evan (Colin Ford) up via vid-phone conference. Suddenly, Roland's SUV is t-boned by another van, and heavily armed Serbians come pouring out. People are killed, Roland and his super-secret-looking briefcase are kidnapped, and poor Evan is left screaming for his dad over the still-intact iPhone. iPhones can survive a car crash and gunfire and not even crack the screen! Back at the McGarrett house, Steve (Alex O'Loughlin) is having daddy problems of his own,...

For anyone who might have had fears about Hawaii Five-o, last night's episode should have put those worries to rest, as "Ohana" was a solid follow-up to last week's premiere.
Allow me to start with a big thank you to the writers and producers for not using numerous gun fights and explosions to carry the series, instead relying on the actual on-screen.
As I discussed and hoped for last week, the show reduced the gun play down to two fights, one that opened the show and one that ended it. This was the perfect amount; it showed great action but still allowed for more character development. Additionally, we got to see a lot of both guest stars, Ivana Milicevic and Peter Stormare.
With fewer weapons blazing, we watched the cast stretch their legs in this episode and really start fleshing out the characters.

['Hawaii Five-0'' - 'Ohana']
When you've got a huge budget and a feature film director, it's often easy to make a pilot episode that's not representative of the episodes that follow. In the case of 'Hawaii Five-0,' the follow-up edition, entitled 'Ohana,' traded some of the flash for a smaller, but in many ways better, episode. This show will never reinvent the wheel. Rather, its success lies entirely on how smoothly that wheel spins. For the second straight week, it spun in an energetic manner.
"Really? Is that gonna be a thing now?" With those words, this reboot sought to stake its claim in the ground. "Book 'em, Danno!" is part of the old version of this show, not the new one. Having this iteration of Danny Williams cut off that line of dialogue was a small but important step in trying to establish its own voice and rhythms.

Chicago – The Hollywood Celebrities & Memorabilia Show is back in Chicago this weekend, September 25th and 26th, and the last time it came around some popular TV stars of the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s participated. Dawn Wells, Willie Aames, James MacArthur and Ken Kercheval were there.
HollywoodChicago talked with them all, and Hc ace photographer Joe Arce put the finishing touch on the interviews with his vivid shots.
The Hollywood Celebrities & Memorabilia Show is a biannual event where attendees can meet and greet the stars, collect autographs and find cool collectibles at the comprehensive memorabilia market. Click here for details about the show.
Dawn Wells, Mary Ann on Gilligan’s Island
The most famous castaways in television history were only on the air in their original run for three short seasons, 1964-1967, on CBS. But in an explosion of syndicated popularity “Gilligan’s Island” in essence has never left the airwaves.

It took me two nights to get through all the premieres from Monday night. Good thing there's nothing worth watching on Tuesday nights.
My week of premieres started with a bang. A Chuck bang. I hadn't realized how much I'd missed this show.
I found last season to be a bit hit-and-miss, but if this fourth season can maintain the energy of the premiere, "Chuck Versus the Anniversary", we're in for a good year.
And as you'd expect, the pop culture references were in abundance, from guest star Dolph Lundgren's use of his line, "I will break you." from Rocky IV to Harry Dean Stanton who was himself a reference as he repossessed Morgan's beater-mobile
Of course, the highlight was the sexting between Sarah and Chuck, with Morgan as Chuck's proxy. Sure it was a rather tame affair, but it was funny to watch nevertheless. Besides, Chuck is a family show.

Admit it. When the title sequence started, and that kickin' wave curled onto your screen, you were already humming the classic theme song. I know I was. But I have to say, after the first four minutes of the show, I can safely say, that this ain't your momma's Hawaii Five-0 (TV). We meet the steely-eyed Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) in South Korea, where the decorated naval commander has been managing the transfer of an arms terrorist he's been after for some time. As the terrorist, Anton Hesse (Norman Reedus) taunts McGarrett, his big brother and ubber-villain Victor (James Marsters) calls the commander and wants a trade: his brother for McGarrett's father's life. Before he can answer, Jack McGarrett (William Sadler) imparts some coded words to his son, tells him that he loves him. The convoy is then nearly blown up by enemy helicopters and we are treated to watching...

HollywoodNews.com: Just judging from the trailers, the energy and cast chemistry, it seems fairly certain that the new version of “Hawaii Five-o” is going to be a big hit.
Scott Caan plays Det. Danny Williams opposite Alex O’Loughlin who is Set. Steve McGarrett. Lost alum Daniel Dae Kim is Det. Chin Ho Kelly and Grace Park plays Kona Kalakua.
When a group of us chatted with Scott at the TV Critics Association Summer Press Tour, I asked him if he got any tips from his father, James Caan, who had made the transition from films to television in NBC’s “Las Vegas.”

As one of the most anticipated shows this season, Hawaii Five-o had a lot of pressure on it... and if the series premiere was any indication, the light-hearted drama won't have a problem living up to this hype.
I really enjoyed the new version of this classic program. It appears that CBS kept all the parts of the original show that worked and updated the parts needed to be modernized. Take the theme song, for example, an iconic tune with just a few new tinges of awesomeness.
Alex O'Loughlin comes in as Commander Steve McGarrett of the U.S. Navy. He is recruited by the Governor of Hawaii to lead a special team to help rid the state of the worst of the worst criminals. I love O’Loughlin. I am so very glad that he got a better show than last year’s failed Three Rivers, as Hawaii 5-o...

I’m about to severely date myself, but I remember watching the original Hawaii Five-o along with a whole batch of classic series like Dragnet, Hunter and The Equalizer when I was a kid. Mostly, my commentary on it at the time consisted of joking about how James MacArthur’s Danny Williams was always the one who had to imperil himself first. Now that I’m old enough to actually do more than take potshots at the original, there’s a remake for my generation. My first thought? Hoping it wasn’t the next L.A. Dragnet.

CBS is excited about Hawaii Five-0. And why not? The original series ran for twelve seasons between 1968-80, making it one of the most enduring crime dramas in television history. Ask most people what the most recognized or famous television theme song of all time is, and they're likely going to say either Hawaii Five-0 or Mission Impossible. Even those who haven't seen Five-0 on television can probably hum the theme.
By that reckoning, it sort of makes sense to reboot the series for a contemporary audience. At least that's what CBS is gambling in its new version of Hawaii Five-0, which kicks off tonight. The network was kind enough to send us a screener a while back, and it's taken yours truly this long to crank out my two cents because we're tenaciously working behind-the-scenes on a complete redesign of CinemaSpy.
So what should you expect from Five-0 redux?...

Chicago – Describing Steve McGarrett’s new resume, the Governor of Hawaii intones, “Annapolis, five years Naval Intelligence, six years in the Seals…the best they’ve ever seen.” Immediately this is not your Daddy’s Five-0. Most of what you'll see in "Hawaii Five-0" when it premieres Monday (Sept. 20) is new: The pace is much faster, the action bigger and the stories suited to 21st-century Hawaii. Oh, and Kono's a woman (Grace Park).
But there are certain holdovers from the old "Five-0" as well. The theme song, for one, and also McGarrett's catchphrase "Book 'em, Danno." The music was a no-brainer -- why mess with one of the most iconic TV themes ever? -- but the line has been a little trickier.
"Here's the key about that: You have to earn it," executive producer Alex Kurtzman says in the video above. "Because [otherwise] it feels potentially winky, and the audience won't like it."
In the series premiere, the line rises out of a couple of conversations between McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) and Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan), and future episodes will have similar organic ways to get to the line.

Because the scene around the Caprica panel was a total fustercluck this morning, I went to the Panel for the Hawaii Five-0 reboot. (Thanks GeekDad for helping me get in!) And now you guys reap the benefits! I don't really know what to tell you about it though. You've seen the original? Well picture that, but set in 2010 and produced for CBS. It will fit seamlessly into the CBS lineup.

We are seeing a growing trend with network bringing back older shows.
For example, this fall a new version of Hawaii Five-o is on tap. This is generally refer to this as “reimagining a classic." However, in a lot cases, the opposite is the result and one's memory of a series is destroyed forever.
So, why do the networks continue to trot out these recycled programs? The short answer is: they don’t all fail. But many have failed to hit the mark entirely.
What makes the “reimagining” works for some and fail for others? I believe there are some key elements that will give any reimagined show a good chance of succeeding. Especially if you look at what has worked and failed. Here are some prime examples:
Battlestar Gallactica is really the holy grail. BSG succeeded against the odds. Creatively, it used the old show's cylons as “early models...

Welcome to Project Pilots, where Zap2it will give you the skinny on the new shows headed your way this fall. We'll be rolling these posts out throughout July and August to help you prepare for a busy fall season that will bring more than 20 new series to your screen.
First up is CBS' "Hawaii Five-0," the third Eye series that has starred Alex O'Loughlin in the past four seasons. The network is hoping this one fares better than "Moonlight" and "Three Rivers" did.
Disclaimer: These posts are not reviews -- shows often make tweaks to their pilot episodes between filming in the spring and their fall debuts. Full reviews will come closer to the premiere date.

What it is: A remake of the long-running (1968-80) cop show starring O'Loughlin as Steve McGarrett, the head of a special police unit that reports directly to the state's governor.
