Media and entertainment veteran Kim Williams is to be appointed the next chairperson of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the Australian federal prime minister Anthony Albanese’s office announced on Wednesday.
Williams takes over from the departing Ita Buttrose and will have a five-year mandate. He joins at a moment when the ABC is enduring a moment of editorial turbulence. The public broadcaster has recently been criticized for its coverage of the war in Palestine.
On Monday, union members passed a vote of no confidence in the ABC’s MD David Anderson “for failing to defend the integrity of the ABC and its staff from outside attacks.” The ABC’s Buttrose-headed board hit back on Tuesday with a unanimous vote of confidence in Anderson.

We have some bad TV news to share this Saturday morning.
The Wonder Years has been canceled at ABC, Deadline reports.
The news comes a month after the series wrapped up its second season on the network.
Canceling a series without a pre-planned conclusion is difficult for the cast, crew, and fans, but it's been clear ABC has been considering a future without the series for some time.
Despite soft ratings, The Wonder Years scored a renewal for Season 2 last year and was set to premiere at midseason.
However, the network pushed it to the fall, keeping the show off the air for over a year.
Summer scripted shows were once widespread on the broadcast networks, but nowadays, shows are sent there to burn off produced episodes.
The Wonder Years Season 2 averaged 1.8 million viewers and a 0.21 rating across ten episodes, down 50% in the demo vs. the freshman season.

Don Cheadle, narrated the series as adult Dean Williams. He was joined among the cast by Elisha “Ej” Williams as Dean Williams, Dulé Hill as Bill Williams, Saycon Sengbloh as Lillian Williams, Laura Kariuki as Kim Williams, Julian Lerner as Brad Hitman, Amari O’Neil as Cory Long and Milan Ray as Keisa Clemmons.

“The Wonder Years” reboot will not return for a third season at ABC, TheWrap has learned.
The network has chosen to cancel the sitcom starring Elisha “Ej” Williams, Dulé Hill and Saycon Sengbloh, which ran for two seasons. The cancellation comes just over a month after the coming-of-age drama aired the finale for its sophomore season, which saw the Williams family head to Disneyland.
Debuting its first season in September 2021, the reimagining of the ’80s series of the same name similarly centered on the Black middle-class Williams family during the late ’60s in Montgomery, Al. Don Cheadle narrated the series an adult Dean Williams while Elisha “Ej” Williams played 12-year-old Dean onscreen.
In May 2022, controversy came over the show as executive producer and director Fred Savage — who starred in the original series — was fired after multiple allegations of inappropriate conduct. While specifics regarding the misconduct were not revealed at the time,...

Exclusive: ABC has opted not to proceed with a third season of The Wonder Years. The news comes a month after the reboot of the classic coming-of-age comedy wrapped its Season 2 run on the network.
Originally slated for a midseason return, The Wonder Years‘ second season was pushed to summer, hinting at the show’s potential fate as summer has traditionally been used as a destination for broadcast scripted series that have either been canceled or are likely to be.
The Wonder Years ranks as the lowest-rated and least watched ABC series this summer, behind the network’s unscripted slate. It also would rank last among ABC’s series that aired during the 2022-23 season.
There are no renewal decisions on ABC bubble series The Rookie: Feds and Home Economics and a pickup one on The Good Lawyer pilot. As Deadline reported last month, their fates remain in limbo amid...

Dulé Hill's perfect comedy timing.
We don't want to delve too far into what happens in the clip because then you won't have much incentive to watch.
But we can talk about the episode.
"After Lillian's boss announces budget cuts, she is forced to make a decision and enforce boundaries between her personal and professional life," the description reads.
"Dean and Cory's friendship hits a few speed bumps as they work together for the boxcar derby."

In more than two decades as a casting director, Kim Williams has helped launch the careers of actors like Martin Lawrence, Mo'Nique, Jesse Metcalfe, Tracy Morgan, and Amanda Bynes. Yet she is always looking for the next new star to introduce to her clients, which have included HBO, Fox, and Tyler Perry. "I guess there's a notion that if you don't have credits, people aren't going to be interested in you," Williams says, "Which is not true. That's the wonderful thing about Hollywood, is that people want to be the ones that discover you."To stay aware of new talent, Williams watches web series and independent films, talks to agents and managers, and often holds small casting sessions at her L.A. office to add faces to her files. She will consider nonunion actors without representation, too. Even with a long list of credits, an actor's training and preparation always has to.

Long before Mo'Nique won the Academy Award for her supporting role in "Precious," casting director Kim Williams gave the comedian her first film role, in a 2000 feature called "3 Strikes." She hired Tracy Morgan for a recurring role on the hit sitcom "Martin" before he gained fame on "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock." And Jesse Metcalfe's only onscreen credit was a few episodes of the soap opera "Passions" when Williams cast him in a made-for-tv movie in 2003; the actor has since starred in films such as "John Tucker Must Die" and on television in "Desperate Housewives."Williams, who has been casting film and television productions for the likes of HBO, Fox, and Tyler Perry for two decades, says that she is always looking for the actor who will become her next discovery. But she also wishes that CDs received more recognition for their creative contributions, especially during awards...
