At once hypermasculine and flamboyant, Mexican lucha libre has for long been a popular form of entertainment for the masses. An escape from the burdens of poverty and real violence, the spectacle features brightly clad heroes known as técnicos who personify the forces of good. Their adversaries, the rudos, play easily recognizable bad guys one can also cheer for. Their duels inside the ring display as much artistry as they do physical prowess.

The Directors Guild of America has announced the nominees in the documentary and television categories for this year’s DGA Awards, with O.J. Simpson present in both fields: “O.J.: Made in America” and “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” both picked up nods. Other contenders include “Atlanta,” “Westworld” and “The Eagle Huntress.” The feature film nominees, meanwhile, are scheduled to be announced tomorrow.

Iron Sky producer Mark Overett is developing Pig Hunt, a violent thriller about a family man who gets caught up in a deadly cat-and-mouse game in the Australian Outback.
The film will be co-produced by Overett.s New Holland Pictures and UK-based Feature One. The script is by Englishman Ross Williams. No director has yet been announced. It.s set to shoot in the first half of 2014.
The project was unveiled during the Cannes Film Market. Overett said, .Pig Hunt is a project that has a clearly defined audience which is currently under-served in the market place. The Young and the Restless tallied 23 nominations as honors were announced this morning for the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Restless’ impressive take helped CBS lead all networks with 50 overall nominations. PBS and ABC followed, with 44 and 38 nods, respectively.
General Hospital, which earned 19 nominations, joined Restless in the race for Outstanding Drama Series, and Sesame Street received 17 nods, including three for Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo who faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
Good Morning America and Today will bring their ratings rivalry to the Emmys, where they’ll be joined by CBS Sunday Morning in the Outstanding Morning Program category.
