Those who weren't of drinking age in the early 2000s likely wouldn't understand the baffling, Dada animated series "Aqua Teen Hunger Force." It was ostensibly a sci-fi sitcom whose three main characters appeared to be the mascots of some long-forgotten fast food chain. There was Mater Shake (Dana Snyder), a bloviating anthropomorphic milkshake cup, Frylock (Carey Means), the level-headed carton of french fries, and Meatwad (show co-creator Dave Willis), a ball of uncooked ground beef and the innocent "child" of the group. Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad didn't really have adventures, so much as they did complain about the weird aliens and mutants that regularly visited their run-down suburban home. The Aqua Teens were rude, dumb, pushy, and only seemed to dimly perceive the world around them. They regularly swam in their neighbor's pool without asking.

Review: Fourteen years ago, Archer debuted on FX and introduced the world to the best spy comedy on television. Led by H. Jon Benjamin’s pitch-perfect vocal performance, Archer skewered everything from James Bond to Mad Men and more over its decade and a half on the air. Adam Reed’s series has been consistently hilarious, with multiple forays into genres like noir, science fiction, and an homage to Miami Vice. Now, the final season of Archer is here, and it is thankfully just as great as the thirteen that came before it. Adult Swim has found the new voice of Squidbillies‘ Early Cuyler ahead of the show’s final season.
After a competitive search (watch the video below), Tracy Morgan landed the role of the balding hillbilly squid from Georgia over several Adult Swim favorites including George Lowe (the voice of Space Ghost), Spencer Grammer (Rick and Morty‘s Summer), Steve Blum (aka T.O.M. of Toonami) and Squidbillies co-creator Dave Willis.
Morgan replaces actor Stuart D. Baker who was fired from the long-running animated series in August 2020 over “extremely offensive and derogatory social media posts” disparaging entertainer Dolly Parton and Black Lives Matter.
Morgan can currently be seen starring as Tray Barker on TBS’ The Last O.G., now in its fourth season. Morgan also is an executive producer on the show. He’s probably best known for his role as Tracy Jordan in the sitcom 30 Rock (2006–2013), and for his...

Adult Swim has “permanently retired” an episode of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” and an episode of “The Boondocks,” making them unavailable for streaming on the Adult Swim site and WarnerMedia’s HBO Max, “due to cultural sensitivities,” a representative for the cable channel told TheWrap Tuesday.
“The Boondocks” installment in question is Season 3’s “The Story of Jimmy Rebel,” which focuses on Uncle Ruckus’ relationship with a country singer whose albums have titles like “Real N****** Never Die, They Just Smell That Way.”
The “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” episode that was removed is Season 6’s “Shake Like Me,” which is titled in reference to John Howard Griffin’s “Black Like Me,” and sees Shake become “stereotypically” Black in his behavior and physical appearance after being bitten by a Black man infected with toxic waste.

A voice actor on Adult Swim’s “Squidbillies” who was fired Sunday for “derogatory” and “offensive” Facebook posts went off on the makers of the cartoon series Tuesday, writing, “I just hope you assholes are happy.”
“Folks, I’ve been fired from my Cartoon Show, lost my endorsements and my chance of ever being booked by any Music Venue as Unknown Hinson again,” wrote Stuart Baker, who goes by the stage name Unknown Hinson and has voiced the character Early Cuyler on “Squidbillies” since 2005, wrote in a since-deleted post, according to TVLine.
“I just hope you a-holes are happy you took a good Man and talent down. You succeeded. Be proud that you ruined a person’s life all because of [the] Freak Show called ‘Dolly Parton and BLM.’ Thanks a lot. I gave my best to you assholes for over 30 years. I guess you just love to kick someone when they’re down.

Stuart D. Baker has been fired from the Adult Swim animated series “Squidbillies” after posting comments about Dolly Parton and the Black Lives Matter movement on social media.
Baker, who performs under the name Unknown Hinson, posted on his Facebook profile late last week about Dolly Parton voicing her support for the Black Lives Matter movement. In doing so, he referred to Parton as a “freak titted, old Southern bimbo” and a “slut.” In another post, he wrote “Have Fun [sic] forsaking your own race, culture, and heritage.”
Series creators Jim Fortier and Dave Willis announced Monday via the show’s official Twitter handle that Baker was no longer a part of the show.
“We’re aware of the extremely offensive and derogatory social media posts made late last week by Stuart D. Baker,” they wrote. “The views he expressed do not reflect our own personal values or the values of...

Marvel is not moving forward with its Hulu animated series Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Deadline. That leaves two Marvel animated series remaining at Hulu, Hit Monkey and M.O.D.O.K.. along with the live-action Helstrom.
All projects originated at Marvel Television, the now defunct television division run by Jeph Loeb, which was shut down last month, with the existing series moved under the oversight of Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.
Tigra & Dazzler had been searching for a new showrunner and writers after parting ways with showrunner Erica Rivinoja due to creative differences. But as of two weeks ago, Hulu brass were still expecting to proceed with the four Marvel animated series as well as Helstrom (the Disney-controlled streamer had previously opted not to proceed with the proposed live-action Ghost Rider series over creative differences.)

Marvel Television’s remaining slate continues to dwindle.
Variety has confirmed that the animated shows “Howard the Duck” and “Tigra & Dazzler” — two of four animated Marvel projects set up at Hulu — are no longer in the works at the streamer. The other two shows, “M.O.D.O.K” and “Hit Monkey,” are currently still on track to be completed. The four shows were to crossover in an event series called “The Offenders,” though that is now off the table given that half the team will not be featured on Hulu as planned.
According to an individual with knowledge of the decision, Marvel ultimately made the call not to move forward with the two shows.
It was reported in December that “Tigra & Dazzler” showrunner Erica Rivinoja and the show’s writing staff had exited over creative differences with Marvel, which led to the show being put on hold. In September,...

Jeph Loeb Discusses Developing More Adult-Oriented Animated Marvel Shows for Hulu That Push the Wall
Earlier this year it was announced that Marvel and Hulu were developing a series of animated shows that consist of Marvel’s Howard the Duck, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, and Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show. Those will all lead up to a team-up special called Marvel’s The Offenders.
These shows will have more mature and adult-oriented content, and in a recent interview with Deadline, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb teases the direction that they are taking as they develop these shows. He explains:
"I’m a huge Archer fan, and Dan Buckley, who’s the president of all things other than the studio here at Marvel, and I started talking about how we have this mutual love of animation and also pushing that wall. The idea of doing something that was more adult, some of which was started with the idea of doing Deadpool animated.

Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, is a busy guy with a lot on his plate these days. While he is closing a chapter that included Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and my favorite, The Punisher, all at Netflix, as well as the final seasons of Legion and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he is going into a new phase, with exciting prospects and projects on the horizon.
Loeb sat down with Deadline last month at San Diego Comic-Con and compared Marvel TV to a phoenix rising from what some were assuming to be ashes after the mass exodus of the series listed above. What we know so far is that we’ve got a live-action Ghost Rider in the works, an animated Howard the Duck, the Marvel series coming to the Disney+ streaming service that launches this November with the newly partnered Hulu, and whispers of a brand new...

Archer executive producer, Casey Willis, walks us through the finale of Archer: 1999 and what may lie ahead for the show.
For three years Archer has been playing make believe and testing the audience’s limits of just how long they can go without addressing Archer’s coma, but it’s finally happened. The wait is over and Archer is finally ready to get back to the basics.
This all comes on the heels of the very successful season of Archer: 1999 that did a ton with their new space motif. This season featured many fantastical adventures that allowed the show to have so much fun. The season’s finale, “Robert De Niro” not only sees Archer on trial for his violent actions against Lana, but Barry-6 leads an alien ambush onto the M/V Seamus to take everyone down. It’s a satisfying ending to this season of stories,...

Adult Swim’s premiere Satanic workplace comedy is back for more outrageous takes on Hades’ most incompetent demons!
TV
Hell used to be an untouchable area for television, let alone for comedies, but the medium has grown receptive over the years. Horror has exploded on television since Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell officially premiered on Adult Swim back in 2013. The series has never shied away from the aggressive material that dominates damnation, but the rest of TV has slowly risen to its twisted level.
This series always delivers a feast for the senses, but it’s been two years since the conclusion of season three and this fourth season wrapped production well over a year ago, so it’s great to finally see these new episodes get released. Perhaps it has a lot to do with the absence between seasons, but Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell...

Kevin Smith is obviously excited about working on Marvel and Hulu’s Howard The Duck animated series; he can’t stop talking about it! He already talked about getting to “do fowl things” with series. Now he continues to gush about what is being done with these shows and also reveals that he’s already asked original Howard The Duck movie star Lea Thompson to be a part of the show and voice one of the characters, so that’s cool! Here’s what he says:

At the Television Critics Association 2019 Winter Press Tour; Hulu, in association with Marvel Television, announced that they will be bringing 4 new adult animated shows and a special to the Hulu Originals lineup. Based on popular, or maybe not so popular characters from marvel fandom we will get shows for Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K, Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, Marvel’s Tigra and Dazzler show & Marvel’s Howard the Duck. The four shows will eventually culminate in a special series titled Marvel’s The offenders.
In hulus press release:
The oddest one of this lineup to me is this villain character. Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. Hulu and Marvel Television have partnered to produce four adult animated series, Variety has learned.
The shows will be based on the following Marvel characters: Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler. Like the Marvel-Netflix “Defenders” shows before them, the four characters will then team up in the animated special “The Offenders.” Marvel’s head of TV, Jeph Loeb, will executive produce each project. Disney–which owns Marvel–will become a majority shareholder in Hulu once the Fox-Disney merger is completed.
“Howard the Duck” will be written and executive produced by Kevin Smith and Dave Willis. As Marvel’s original Netflix series begin to fade away, a new deal with Hulu brings back small-screen hope for the comic book giant’s wealth of exciting, vital characters — and, also, Howard the Duck.

In addition, these series will be accompanied by a special that would unite all five for an adventure in which, per the release, they’ll be “forced to team up in order to save the world and certain parts of the universe.”

Things between Marvel TV and Netflix may be winding down, but Hulu and its Disney-owned corporate cousin are just getting started it seems.
In a deal quite reminiscent of the accord struck between the Reed Hastings-run streamer and Disney back in 2013 for four new series and The Defenders team-up limited series, Hulu and Marvel today unveiled four new original adult animated series and a The Offenders team-up special.
As a third season of the Schwartz and Stephanie Savage created Marvel’s Runaways seems a sure bet, Hulu is hoping to strongly up its Marvel game and to resurrect the reputation of the acerbic Howard The Duck, who got plucked in that terrible 1986 feature film, as part of its big programming chess move. The Htd series based on the cigar chomping character first introduced in the comics in 1973 will be stewarded by Clerks kingpin Kevin Smith, along with Dave Willis.

Howard the Duck is only one of a series of new adult animated series coming from Marvel and Hulu!
Hulu and Marvel Television have launched a partnership to kick off a series of irreverent adult animated series, all focusing on some of the lesser known characters in the Marvel Universe. The spy genre has always left itself open to be spoofed, deliberately or not. With overly complex world ending plots, pseudoscience, impossible gadgets, male protagonists who exude toxic masculinity, and goatee stroking supervillains. Espionage adventures that have taken themselves too seriously have erred into self-parody.
Cinema and TV are no strangers to mocking, embracing, and celebrating the all-too-goofy cliches and inaccuracies of the fictional world of spies. Austin Powers, Johnny English, and Action Team followed inept secret agents unaware of their own shortcomings bumbling through missions.

So, we come to the end of this particular series. We’ve covered a number of aspects of the creative input into film-making, including actors, actresses, writers composers, and directors (in two parts). We’ve stopped short of costume, make-up, special effects, art design and others, however our final stop is Cinematography. The Dop exerts plenty of influence over the look of the film. Yes, lighting, production design and the director’s vision are key too, but the consistency and persistence with which certain directors stick with and return to a trusted Dop shows just how much they contribute.

Rob Lowe dressed up like Colonel Sanders today, and that just makes us miss “The Grinder” even more.
The Emmy-nominated actor is the latest star to appear as the KFC founder in a series of ads, this time donning a space suit with a trompe l’oiel design to mimic the Sanders’ signature white suit and string tie. It’s a bizarre but not entirely un-funny ad that embraces the over-the-top aspect of the announcement that Colonel Harland Sanders (Lowe) want to blast KFC’s newest Zinger sandwich into space.

“The time has come to explore beyond our known horizons, to push KFC’s spicy crispy chicken to new heights,” he says in a mock press conference in the ad seen below. The short video also concludes with the somewhat disturbing and grammatically incorrect line, “We lick our fingers good!

Four episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
The eighth season of Archer picks up where the seventh left off, with the titular character’s bullet-riddled body floating in a Los Angeles swimming pool. It begins without humor, in the midst of death. Woodhouse is eulogized and buried, while Archer lies in a coma and a voiceover recites Bible verses. Lana and Mallory wait next to Archer’s comatose body for him to wake up, wondering what he might be dreaming about.
This is the framing device for Archer: Dreamland, the eighth season of the animated action comedy. Like several of its preceding seasons, this new installment drops us into a long form exploration of a theme. The fifth season gave us the team as drug dealers (Archer Vice), the sixth made them spies again, and the seventh turned them into Hollywood private detectives. Now, the entire season appears to be...

[Editor’s Note: Whether it was the tragic cancellation of “The Grinder” this past May or Rob Lowe’s confounding decision to follow up a show mocking melodramatic procedurals by joining a melodramatic procedural, it appears IndieWire TV Critic Ben Travers has lost his mind. Despite obvious evidence to the contrary, Mr. Travers has become convinced the CBS drama “Code Black,” which began its second season Wednesday after adding Mr. Lowe to the cast in the offseason, is actually a continuation of “The Grinder.” We can’t, in good conscience, allow the piece below to run without clarifying this is not the case. But we also couldn’t bring ourselves to break his heart. Without further ado, our review of… “The Grinder: Code Black.”]
“The Grinder” made a name for itself in its first season by taking it to the man. The man, of course, was the rest of broadcast TV — specifically, the redundant, nonsensical procedurals populating a medium desperate to hold onto viewers (even as their average age creeps closer and closer to our nation’s mortality limit). A particularly sharp edge of that Season 1 battle axe was its opening sequences. “The Grinder” always began with a glimpse at “The Grinder”: the show-within-a-show starring Dean Sanderson, that he and his family would watch to bookend many episodes.
It can be a little confusing discussing “The Grinder” — the comedy starring Rob Lowe — side-by-side with its fictional counterpart of the same name, but we’ll try to keep them distinct. (Lowe is a real actor, Dean is his character who’s also an actor — a fake actor, if you will.) But every week in these opening flashbacks,...

Paging Emma Watson. The Code Black TV show on CBS is casting for a new doctor character, Charlotte Piel, in the second season. Per TV Line she is described as "a former child star of an iconic movie franchise — 'think Hermione Granger in Harry Potter'... who gave up acting to go to medical school." While in residency at Angels Memorial, Charlotte will reportedly fight to be taken seriously by her coworkers. The role is a recurring one with an option to become a series regular.
NYPD Blue's Bonnie Somerville and Smash's Raza Jaffrey have been cut from the Code Black season two cast. TV Line says the medical series will be bringing on a "fortysomething ex-combat doctor,'Colonel David Willis' to play opposite Marcia Gay Harden. That character is described as, "... heroic, blunt, irreverent, and rule-breaking, Willis lands at Angels to teach the attendings and...

Nothing like a little sorcery to quell a fiery backlash. Code Black, which last week fired to series regulars amid a Season 2 cast shakeup, is introducing a new doctor with (admittedly very loose) ties to the Harry Potter universe.
