Zander Venezia, a talented 16-year-old junior pro surfer from Bridgetown, Barbados, died while surfing mega-swell waves as powerful Hurricane Irma approached the Caribbean on Tuesday. His sister is now speaking out about her brother and the bright talent that the surfing community — and those who loved him — lost.
“Zander was a positive boy, who always had a smile on his face that was contagious,” Bella Venezia, 19, tells People. “He loved his family and friends so much and knew how proud we all were of him and his accomplishments.”

A teenage budding pro surfer died Tuesday while riding the mega-swell waves in Barbados during Hurricane Irma, multiple outlets report.
Zander Venezia — of Bridgetown, Barbados — was surfing a heavy break known as “Box by Box” on the Caribbean island’s east side when he was caught by a closeout set that drove him into the shallow, rocky bottom where he hit his head on the reef, was knocked unconscious and drowned, Surfcide reported.
The 16-year-old’s death comes just two weeks after he won the $250 top prize at the Rip Curl Grom Search in North Carolina.

Fiction always has a habit of overlapping, whether intentionally or not, since storytelling is built on only a few choice templates. Your plot can include three headed aliens in an intergalactic pissing contest with ghost humans, or simply be a gritty fable about the perils of alcoholism and social stigma, it doesn’t matter. The plot and setting can go as far as it wants but there will always be links and lines shared. Sometimes, however, spotting that particular connection between the most unlikely of parables is an incredibly bizarre and uncanny experience, especially when a small and superficial similarity reveals much more. A great example would be how a cult-favorite medical TV show seems to share a disconcertingly high number of connections to a recent Hollywood blockbuster.

Playwright whose anarchic works were filled with vividly imagined characters
Snoo Wilson, who has died suddenly aged 64, was in the vanguard of the young playwrights revolutionising British theatre in the two decades after 1968, but Snoo was a very different kettle of fish from the others. While David Edgar, Howard Brenton and David Hare were often overtly political, Snoo was a Marxist "tendance Groucho"; more subtly subversive and humorous. Sometimes the surface frivolity of his work made people think he wasn't serious, but he was always trying to mine under the surface of things, to allow the subconscious to drive his imagination. Snoo used fiercely imagined characters in comic and often savage works that nevertheless, in the best plays, demonstrated an insouciant knowledge of dramatic structure. He was not a believer in naturalism.
Throughout his career Snoo refused to accept that mere reality was all there was – if so, it was...

Robert Sean Leonard spent eight years as Dr. James Wilson trying to keep the sanity of "House's" title character together. Now he will have to work to keep his own sanity intact in an upcoming mini-arc for TNT's "Falling Skies." Leonard will play Roger Kadar, a scientist who lives underneath Charleston (where humans have gathered as a refuge in the second season) where he runs the power grid and has an assortment of pet rats. This is the first post-"House" role for Leonard, who appeared in "The Outer Limits" in 2000. He will not be the only former television doctor (well, physician assistant) making his way to the series. Gloria Reuben, who co-starred with Noah Wyle in NBC's "ER," also is set to make an appearance as well. Leonard is set for a five-episode arc, but will likely not ...

Exclusive: In his first post-House gig, Robert Sean Leonard has signed on for a five-episode arc on TNT’s sci-fi drama Falling Skies. Also set for a five-episode arc on the upcoming third season of Falling Skies is ER alumna Gloria Reuben, reuniting with her ER co-star, Falling Skies‘ leading man Noah Wyle. Leonard, repped by Wme and manager Danny Sussman, will play Roger Kadar, PhD, an obsessive but gifted scientist who runs Charleston’s power grid and lives underground with his pet rats. The children of New Charleston, intrigued by his cool science toys and unusual pets, eventually dub him “The Rat King.” For the past eight seasons, Leonard played Gregory House’s (Hugh Laurie) best friend and moral compass Dr. James Wilson on the Fox medical drama. Following his arc on Falling Skies, he is likely to return to series full-time as he is already fielding interest for pilots.

Everybody dies. Everybody lies. One of the better network wry dramedy series, Fox's "House," said farewell in a fiery blaze that felt a touch 'Easy Rider" and certainly bittersweet buddy-like in the vein of a "Thelma and Louise" moment. Dr. Gregory House, addicted, brilliant and the contentious antihero of the medical world pulled off a great twist, and rode off into the sunset with his best buddy, terminal with cancer, Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard). A scheme is hatched, and House plots to whisk him away from the agonizing waiting for the end. Better to hit the road and skirt jail in the process. "You do remember I'm dying, don't you?" Wilson tells House. House replies: "Which is...

How does one of the edgiest, most antagonistic characters in series television history say goodbye?
Pretty much in the same fashion he said hello.
Anything else would ring false for Dr. Gregory House, and title star Hugh Laurie and series creator and executive producer David Shore are determined to see him end true to form as the Fox medical drama "House" wraps up its eight-year run Monday, May 21. Don't expect major reassessments or revelations by the central figure, then, just a final and familiar round of sass and snark. And, very probably, one last swath of professional brilliance.
"It would almost be one of House's many mantras that people don't change, generally speaking," Laurie tells Zap2it, a two-time winner of Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Television Critics Association Awards who also became a producer as the series proceeded. "It's certainly true in television drama. They can't change, actually.

On Monday night (May 21), we say goodbye to Dr. Gregory House, one of the most iconic TV characters of this young century. For eight seasons, he's been confounding us, challenging us and, above all, entertaining us with his quirky brilliance and cutting wit.
On paper, the character doesn't seem to be very appealing: a crippled, self-destructive, drug-addicted doctor who distrusts, ignores and avoids his patients and alienates his friends — not exactly an endearing guy. But in the hands of the mighty Hugh Laurie, it works.
Laurie was barely known here in the U.S. before he took on the role of House. English folk knew him as a masterful sketch comedian and half of the dynamic duo (Stephen) Fry and Laurie. When he was brought...

New York — It will be painful saying goodbye to "House."
The Fox medical drama concludes its eight-season run Monday with a series finale at 9 p.m. Edt, preceded by a one-hour retrospective. And with that, Hugh Laurie will be done as the show's abrasive champion, Dr. Gregory House – unless, Laurie adds with a laugh, "someone comes up with an idea for a stage musical."

No doubt. Sure, the medical mysteries that formed the core of most episodes inevitably grew a bit formulaic as the seasons piled up. (Didn't each week's patient always seem to start bleeding from a different orifice, bafflingly and life-threateningly, right on cue before each commercial break?...

Eight seasons of “House” has given fans more than 160 episodes to choose from as their favorite. And if you were to ask the show’s devoted fans to pick one, you’d get a lot of different answers. But if you were to ask Robert Sean Leonard, who stars as Dr. James Wilson on the medical drama, he’d tell you that for him, the show peaked early — his favorite was “House’s” very first episode! Lisa Edelstein shocked both viewers and co-workers alike by announcing she would not return as Dr. Lisa Cuddy. Instead, she’s signed on for a recurring role on the CBS drama “The Good Wife.” Robert Sean Leonard, who plays Dr. James Wilson on “House,” told us that after spending seven years working with her, he’s certainly sad to see her go, but wishes her all the best nonetheless

Robert Sean Leonard is probably best known in millennial circles for his work as Dr. James Wilson on House, but those of us whose pop culture knowledge runs a bit deeper will recall that he portrayed a vampire in the teen-friendly My Best Friend Is A Vampire. This film was part of Hollywood’s late Eighties vampire frenzy, a period in which actors like Jim Carrey (Once Bitten) and Chris Sarandon (Fright Night) also played these fiendishly handsome creatures of the night.
Well, as we all know, the vampire craze has experienced a resurgence over the last few years, thanks mainly to the work of one Robert Pattinson in the Twilight Saga. So when Robert Sean Leonard stopped by the set of VH1′s new morning show, Big Morning Buzz Live, we asked him if he, as an elder statesman of the Sexy Vampire set, had any advice for R Pattz.

Kristen Stewart will have to battle her rumored boyfriend Robert Pattinson for fans' votes at 2011 People's Choice Awards. Nominees were announced on Tuesday, November 9, and the on-screen lovers in the "Twilight Saga" series found themselves being nominated for the same category, the Favorite Movie Star Under 25.
Kristen and Robert weren't the only Hollywood pair being pitted against one another in the category. Former "High School Musical" co-stars and real life couple, Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron, were also up against each other for the title, which also sees "Harry Potter" beauty Emma Watson as nominee.
Although they were up against each other in one category, Kristen and Robert were nominated together in another. Along with co-star Taylor Lautner, they were in the running for Favorite On-Screen Team. Tina Fey and Steve Carell of "Date Night" as well as Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith of "The Karate Kid" were among their competitors.

Television watchers may know him best as Dr. James Wilson, the steadfast number two to Hugh Laurie's misanthropic medical anti-hero on "House," but my fondness for Robert Sean Leonard goes back to his early days. In 1988 he struggled admirably adjusting to life as a newly undead teenager (My Best Friend is a Vampire), and a year later he struggled further to express his inner artist at a 1950's era prep school (Dead Poets Society). (Without a doubt, Robert Sean Leonard is and was a fine on-screen struggler.)
However, my favorite movie to watch Leonard struggle in came during his fruitful twentysomething years, when he and a 19-year-old Christian Bale partnered to hoof it up in the face of fascism. Yes folks, I'm talking about the best and only Nazi Germany period dance drama ever made: Swing Kids!

House star Robert Sean Leonard — who has portrayed Dr. James Wilson on the hit show since 2004 — says that being a stage actor is more conducive to family life being a television actor.
Having recently welcomed his first child, 10-month-old Eleanor, Robert notes in a new interview with Deadbolt that arriving at the theater at 7:30 p.m. and arriving home by 11 p.m. would be a vast improvement over the hours he currently keeps.
“Getting up at four in the morning and getting home at 7:30 at night is, you know, unless you’re William Randolph Hearst,...

Chicago – Robert Sean Leonard, who plays Dr. James Wilson on “House M.D.” (and the best friend of Golden Globe winner Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House), describes himself as less than ambitious with his career and even “lazy” in an interview with HollywoodChicago.com’s presence. He’s also remembered for his role on “Dead Poet’s Society”.
Tonight’s self-titled episode “Wilson,” which is episode nine of season six, puts Robert Sean Leonard more in the spotlight than fans are used to seeing him. The episode, which airs on Nov. 30, 2009 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on Fox, is an intense examination into Wilson’s world when it’s not involving House.
“House M.D.” stars Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Lisa Edelstein, Omar Epps, Jennifer Morrison, Jesse Spencer and Olivia Wilde from creator David Shore. Tonight’s episode synopsis follows and then the Robert Sean Leonard interview follows thereafter.

A lot of supporting actors on a TV series would jump at the chance to have an episode where they're the central focus.
"House's" Robert Sean Leonard, who plays the title character's (Hugh Laurie) colleague and best friend, Dr. James Wilson, is not one of those people.
"Oh, no, it's my worst nightmare. Are you kidding?" Leonard said during a conference call last week. "[When] I read 'House,' and Wilson was in about three scenes a show, I thought, This is perfect. You know, I'm the Carlton the Doorman of my show. I'm not the most ambitious guy. I like playing the best friend. It's good to be the lead of a show for a week, but I wouldn't spread it all around too much. I like my role the way it is."
Leonard is nonetheless stepping up in Monday's (Nov. 30) episode of "House," which is appropriately titled "Wilson." He...
