Although many tributes were included in Monday night's Grammy Awards, Natalie Cole was not one of those individually honored - and fans are not happy about it. Legendary director Spike Lee weighed in on the”Selma” Oscar snub Thursday, which saw director Ava DuVernay and star David Oyelowo left out of Best Director and Best Actor categories.
Lee advised DuVernay to shake it off.
“That doesn’t diminish the film,” Lee told The Daily Beast. “Nobody’s talking about motherfuckin’ Driving Miss Daisy. That film is not being taught in film schools all across the world like Do the Right Thing is. Nobody’s discussing Driving Miss Motherfuckin’ Daisy. So if I saw Ava today I’d say, ‘You know what? “Selma” was all but shut out of the Academy Award nominations Wednesday, as the film’s star David Oyelowo and director Ava DuVernay were overlooked in the Best Actor and Best Director categories.
The film, depicting the 1965 voting rights march led by Martin Luther King Jr. from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, was nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Song. But the critically acclaimed film’s mere two nominations angered some media figures who took to social and digital spaces to express their shock at the snub.

Nominations for the Emmys were announced yesterday and that means it was time for Orphan Black fans to cry, “Why do we make jokes about the Golden Globes’ credibility when they at least had the good sense to notice Tatiana Maslany?” (Among many, many other snubs). The Hollywood Reporter‘s Tim Goodman argues that the Emmys should expand to include more nominees in each category to “reflect the magnitude of the industry.”
TVLine reports that while there’s no hope for the original How I Met Your Dad pilot, a series is still being developed and could see a new pilot being made with the original cast, a new cast or a mix.

Washington, August 6: Oprah Winfrey has made her first public comment on the Trayvon Martin case equating the killing of Martin to that of Emmett Till, the young black boy whose brutal murder helped fuel the civil rights movement.
Oprah told The Grio's Chris Witherspoon that the Trayvon Martin case has parallels with the Emmett Till one, Huffingston Post reported.
In a previous interview with Diane Sawyer, Winfrey said her new movie, 'The Butler' would offer an answer to white people as to why African Americans were so outraged about Martin's death.
The Trayvon Martin case has African Americans and whites sharply divided.

Anyone who has ever experienced a road rage incident should get a massive kick out of Chris Witherspoon’s latest genre effort, Rage (review). The film packs a load of tension, genuine mystery and some absolutely outlandish scenarios. However, sans the extreme measures in which the film reaches during the final act, this is a story that is more than imaginable; it could well be considered plausible, especially in today’s society.

Rage was handed to me for review with no cover art or explanation, just a plain white disc with red lettering in a clear plastic cover. Within roughly the first ten minutes of watching it, it occurred to that I had actually heard of this movie before, having noticed a few reviews of it on various other individual blogs and sites in the past few weeks. Rage has been getting some solid attention recently, and deservedly so, because it is a standout among indie horror efforts. It’s by no means flawless or my new favorite movie of the year or anything, but it sure beats the hell out of most other “home grown” horror-thriller exploits. And I was happy to go into it “blind...

While taking care of some personal business in town, namely ending an affair with a co-worker, troubled and struggling writer Dennis (Rick Crawford) comes to blows with a mysterious, silent and masked biker.
At first these blows are harmless encounters but as the day goes on and these two cross each other’s paths again on several different occasions, these frustrating encounters escalate into something far more sinister – and Dennis soon finds himself being relentlessly hunted throughout town. Who is this mysterious biker that speaks not a word in the film -nor reveals the face behind the mask? The Ex-boyfriend of the lady Dennis ended the affair with? Or is it a manifestation of Dennis’s rising guilt?
Rage is Writer/Director Christopher R. Witherspoon’s second feature and on top of writing and directing here, he skilfully and impressively acts as both Editor and cinematographer.

Cast: Audrey Walker, Rick Crawford and Chris Witherspoon.
Imagine Darth Vader as only the die-hard fans wanted him to be: a brutal killer and a force of nature. But none of that would matter if he did not have that seething rage that kept him going all through these years. Now imagine all that power hidden behind a simple black motorcycle helmet. That’s Chris Witherspoon’s movie, Rage, an effective chase thriller about two individuals, each with personal issues, at odds with one another.
This movie is all about the circumstances that lead to their confrontation. That also includes the problems in Dennis' (Rick Crawford) life. The 2nd annual PollyGrind assaults Las Vegas during an epic length film festival that runs Oct. 8-17 at Theatre 7 with enough sleaze and violence to make Sin City residents feel right at home.
Actually, the fest does open up on the 7th with a concert at Neon Venus with local acts like Monster Zero, Creepersin and many more.
However, the film portion of the fest opens on the 8th with Stuart Simpson‘s acclaimed Australian gorefest El Monstro Del Mar!, one of the best Russ Meyer/Roger Corman mash-ups with a Down Under twist. Read the Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film review of this gem here.
Other Bad Lit favorites in the lineup are Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson‘s The Taint, which is still completely grossing out audiences on the festival circuit, and The Uh-Oh Show, the splatter-filled horror comedy by the Godfather of Gore himself Herschell Gordon Lewis.

From the Press Release:
It's been called "the key festival for indie cult filmmakers to land distribution deals." Its founder and programmer has been called the "new champion of unabashed B-movie sleaze." Rage From director Chris Witherspoon comes "Rage". Rage is the story of a man who unknowingly provokes the wrath of a dark, mysterious, homicidal motorcyclist and must fight for his very life. Looking at the trailer (seen below, after the jump) Rage recalls such horror efforts as Nail Gun Massacre or director Umberto Lenzi's Nightmare Beach (aka Welcome to Spring Break). Elements associated with those films were some pretty cool death sequences and a sense of fun and excitement. Hopefully, Rage can live up to that. The teaser trailer shows that Rage has that potential so hopefully it lives up to that.
In Rage, Dennis Twist a suburban 30-something unintentionally provokes the wrath of a mysterious and homicidal motorcycle rider. The confrontation with “The Biker” escalates into a day long battle of cat and mouse concluding in an extremely violent rampage. Starring in Rage is Rick Crawford (Trunk) and...
