Frank Field, a longtime meteorologist and health reporter at NBC’s New York station Wnbc-tv, has died. He was 100.
Field died Saturday in Florida, according to Wnbc, where he spent 25 years of his career.
Field attended Brown University and MIT, where he learned meteorology, and later served as an Army Air Force meteorology officer in the European theater during World War II.
Additionally, he earned a degree in geology at Brooklyn College, a bachelor’s degree in optometry at Columbia University and a doctorate on the faculty of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Field began his meteorology career at Wnbc in 1958. There, he gained national attention when, according to Wnbc, “Johnny Carson decided needling ‘NBC’s crack meteorologist’ would be good fun and he became a regular guest on The Tonight Show. Field matched wits with the popular comedian, somehow managing to maintain his dignity and air of authority.”

Sports broadcasting legend Warner Wolf -- who coined the phrase, "Let's go to the videotape" -- was arrested in Florida after officials say he ripped the word, "Plantation," off a sign at a private community. Long story short ... Wolf lives in a gated community called "Classics Plantation Estates" in Naples, Florida (about 60 miles from Miami) ... but he thinks the word, "plantation," is offensive and wanted it removed. According to the police report, Wolf had lobbied...

During that interminable period at the movies betwixt the dimming of the house lights and the appearance of the dancing popcorn, I have taken to playing a game to help pass the time. The game's objective is to guess a film's eventual Rotten Tomatoes score, based solely on the quality of its trailer. I take pride in my ability to hit pretty close to the center of the dartboard with some measure of frequency -- one of the more recent feathers in my cap being the score of 15 that I assigned to Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. (As it turned out, I was too generous. It clocked in at a 13.) Perhaps I shouldn't pat myself too much on the back for that one, though. It was pretty hard to imagine anyone not named Armond White giving a favorable write-up to that piece of Chip. Upon viewing the trailer for Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol,...

You know the old saying: A news story isn't a news story until the animation wizards at Taiwanese news service Nma work their magic. With that in mind, how did Ricky Gervais spend that lost hour at the Golden Globes on Sunday night? Probably sipping a bottle of water and talking to celebrities, but it's fun to imagine a world where he got beaten with a dildo by Hugh Hefner. And sliced open by Tim Allen on the set of Home Improvement. Apologies to Warner Wolf, but let's go to the video tape.

To hear Movieline's chief critic Stephanie Zacharek tell it, this is a truly sterling weekend for new movies: A pair of releases crested just shy of the prestigious 10-out-of-10 mark, including The Kids Are All Right and the dandy animated entry Despicable Me. You've heard (and read) Stephanie's take on Kids, but what exactly makes Despicable Me worthy of this glory? As the great Warner Wolf would say, "Let's go to the videotape!"...
