Martin Wolfson was born in Russia and went to the University of Moscow as a medical student, eventually switching to drama. Upon arriving in America as a young man he found roles on Broadway. He married Lisa Von Kalbe, a German immigrant who acted in off-Broadway roles throughout her career. They had one child, Lucy. In the 1950s, during the McCarthy era, Wolfson was blacklisted due to his socialist political leanings. After McCarthy's witch hunts died out, Wolfson went back to Broadway roles but acted in television roles also. At the end of his career he retired with his wife to his summer home in Esopus, New York. He died of cancer in 1973.
